I have to get him (I view it as a him) but I cant work out his environment.

Mountain/dessert? As a new subspecies or just in general? Either way itäs fine, do whatever fits the story you have in mind.

Enviroment? Well, having all black markings he is likely to live somewhere rather warm, but not to hot nor to damp, but with rather much vegetation.

Even though the orange smili has no black markings, can s/he still be a jungle smili, perhaps one that's partially leucistic?

If smilis don't have the gene capacity to be leucistic, please let me know. xD
