I gently nuzzled the hand of the smallest of my human masters, whimpering softly. Had the bad man hurt her badly? Neither her or the larger female master were moving, or breathing. Well, the bad man wasn't either, but I only wanted to know that my masters were safe. I heard a low creak and I turned my head to look at the door. The male master was standing there. I heard a deep, loud sound come from him and he walked over before falling to his knees. I saw tears drip down his face, and hate entered his gaze as he looked at me. I turned my head to the side. What had I done wrong? Should I have just let the bad man hurt my masters? A quick glance at my living human showed me that he hadn't seen the bad man yet. I started trying to pull him towards the bad man, but he pulled away and walked to the closet.
He turned around to face me, holding something that shimmered in the light. It looked like the loud thing the bad man had used on the non responsive masters. I sat down, looking at him. "Bad dog, Shane." My master snarled, pointing the thing at me. "What did they do to you?" I blinked. Wait, did he think I hurt them? No, I was protecting them from the bad man. I didn't hurt them at all. I whimpered, my ears going flat. A loud boom sounded, and then everything went dark.
The story above was written on a whim. It's about a break in that ended with a dead little girl and a dead woman. The husband didn't see the killer, who their dog had attacked to protect it's masters, and believed that the dog had killed them. In his grief, the husband killed the dog.
I might write a longer version of the story above~
