Bay opened the door and stepped onto her porch. The daybreak, mid-summer air was cool and calm. After putting on a pair of mud-boots, Bay made her way to the barns to check on the horses. Opening up the big metal door to the top barn, a black flash charged at her. The sheep just barley missed ramming his head into Bay's stomach, and he would have had Bay not jumped out of the way. The black sheep ran to the foal pasture where mother hoses grazed with their new babies at their feet. Bay called out to her dogs, because she couldn't whistle, and a white and brown collie mix and a grey pitbull galloped to her side. Bay ad the dogs jogged to the foal pasture a looked around for the black ram, but he must have been hiding amongst the trees and fat broodmares. Bay held onto Axle the pitbull's collar and signaled her sheep dog, Rex, out to the field. Rex scurried under the fence and dashed around the pasture, bring great annoyance and worry to the mares and foals. Eventually Rex started barking and burst out from behind a tree in the wake of not one, but 2 sheep. Axle pulled at his collar vigorously and whined, excited beyond his own comprehension. Bay knew that Axle would never harm the horses, but he was trained to chase out coyotes and Bay was unsure of how he would treat the sheep. Eventually Rex herded the sheep through the barn and into the indoor arena, where Bay locked them up for the time being.
Later in the day, the sheep presented themselves as quite a spectacle to the people who boarded their horses at Bay's stables. The boarders feed them oats and hay and gave them names and pats. "Well now they are never going to leave," Bay sighed.
