In third person, the writer is an invisible entity looking on from the outside, not a character. Think about the fourth wall in a movie or TV show or the audience in a play. You're looking in on the entire scene from the outside.
In second person, the writer is still an invisible entity, but this time instead of looking at the whole picture, they're just looking at one person. Think about a video game, where your camera is outside but always fixed on the protagonist- you don't see the whole picture, just what one person is doing.
And in first person, the writer is looking out from inside the protagonist. Think of it as first person shooter game, like Halo.
Much like in most video games, the "camera" never plays a role of it's own. It's just there, watching, exerting a quiet force of control that the characters are unaware of.
