How do you make them grow?

Can I reserve a cheetah egg from a couple?
Nope, not unless you own one of the parents that was bred.

Can I get an egg for a friend?
No. They have to order it themselves.

How many eggs or growing cheetahs can I have at once?
One. Custom eggs don't count, though.

The title says open! How come I can't breed a cheetah/adopt an egg/get a custom?
Because each of the posts for breeding, adopting, and getting a custom has its own opening schedule. One part of the thread being opened =/= all of the parts open.

Why did my cheetah cub go back to being in its egg/why did my adult cheetah go back to being a cub?
Because Photobucket acts weird sometimes. I don't really know, but it'll stay at the stage it's supposed to be at eventually.

I applied for an egg, but never got PMed! Why not?
Because you didn't follow the rules.

When will I get PMed the code for my egg?
When it's finished.

What happens if I break the thread rules?
You get blacklisted.

My cheetah's siblings grew! Why didn't mine?
Maybe it's not appearing on your computer, or maybe it just hasn't reached its time yet. It'll grow eventually.

What determines whether my cheetah has a certain mutation/marking/gender?
Lots of things. Some mutations are very rare while others are common. Markings are determined by the marks of the parents, and gender is random except when two females or two males are bred.

Why can't I choose how my cub looks?
Because that would ruin the surprise.

Can I make my own cheetahs using your lineart?
Absolutely not. Not unless I invite you to or you're one of the mods.

Why is it taking so long to get my egg PM?
Well, there are two scenarios here:
1. You didn't follow the rules, so you're not getting an egg.
2. I haven't made it yet. I make all three stages of growth when the eggs are ordered so that you are assured a cheetah that will grow in schedule. When you order, I'm not just coloring an egg, I'm making your whole request; three pictures.

How long does it take an egg to grow to adulthood?
1-2 weeks, depending on how busy I am.

Can I name my egg when I get it?
Yes. ;D

Can I wait to name my cheetah until it is fully grown?
Yes, but you cannot rename a cheetah that already has a name when it is an adult.

Which cheetahs from the retired pairs can I breed with my cheetah without permission?
Any cheetah whose name is in plain text, like the text this sentence is in.

Do I need permission to breed my cheetah with a cheetah from a retired pair created by a mod?
Yes, unless they tell me otherwise. Mods' cheetahs will have their names written in specific colors, so you can tell who made which.

Are there any cheetahs in the nursery I can breed with without permission from the owner?
Yes. Any cheetahs owned by Tris are free to breed with. This includes "repossessed" cheetahs taken from rule-breakers. All will have her name as the owner. Many of my own are also available.

I got a wolf from an egg! Can I breed my wolf with a cheetah?
Nope. Cheetahs and wolves don't mix.

Okay then... can I breed my wolf with another wolf that pops up in the eggs?
No, sorry. ;D Wolves are cool and quite rare, but they are non-breedable. They're a "glitch", in a sense.

Why do you use Photobucket? Wouldn't the adoptables appear better and more consistently somewhere else?
They might, yes, but I use Photobucket because of the inconsistency in appearances. When I upload growths I will upload many at once--sometimes thirty at a time. And where would the fun be if everyone's cheetahs grew at once? Photobucket staggers the growths so I don't have to.

*NEW* I want to breed with a COPPA member's cheetah! What do I do?
It's solved on a case-by-case basis. Check the list:
Leogirl11- open to breeding, egg code must be posted in order for her to get an egg.

How do I get a free/custom cheetah? And the drakes...? And the WOLF! :D
1. Wait for adopts to open.
2. Custom cheetahs are made either in the raffle or auction. The raffle is free, but you don't have much control over what the cheetah will look like other than the theme you gave in your entry. The auction is paid, but the cheetah will match the character you'd like to have the custom of as exactly as the dinky pixels allow.
3. Drakes can either be won in certain contests, or, very rarely, an egg will go up for adoption. Competition will be high.
4. Wolves are glitches in the system. They can only be adopted in the free adopts.

I hear a lot about guessing games. What are they?
Every now and again, the mods and I will start up a game. We'll create a cheetah based on something, and it's your duty to guess what it's based on using the specified form in the Contests post, with two guesses per user. You're allowed to ask questions (ie, is it a song? Era?), but you're not allowed to create long-winded lists of fifty songs. The winner gets a raffle-style, non-growing cheetah in the inspiration of their choice.


Blacklist.
Here you'll find a list of people who have broken CE's rules. Once on the blacklist, there is no way to get off, and you will no longer be able to order from CE. Your cheetahs will be confiscated and will be claimed under my name. If they are bred, you will not receive eggs. -Previously confiscated eggs will be kept in Tris's care. Newly confiscated will be in mine.

Species and Subspecies Information.
This where you will find all knowledge on the species of egg-laying cheetahs hosted here and all their various subspecies and mutations.

Common Cheetahs.
As their name suggests, the most common result of all eggs laid. Common Cheetahs live in plains and forests in temperate climates. They can stand cold winters and mild summers. Unlike their natural relatives, who give live birth, Common Cheetahs live in colder environments, where they hunt deer, rabbits, and some larger game. The most common pattern in these creatures is spots, and many litters show these markings freely. Also common are splotches, a slight variation of the spot pattern, stripes, and even tribal or swirl patterns. Not much has been seen outside of these base markings. Despite vast differences in color, Common Cheetahs live together in large groups and intermingle freely, producing a wide variety of colors and patterns in their cubs.

Featherwing Cheetahs.
Slightly less common than Common Cheetahs, but still fairly easy to find, Featherwing Cheetahs appear randomly in the gene pool of Common Cheetahs, with varying chances of occurrence depending on the parents' specific likelihood of showing the mutation. Featherwing Cheetahs are identical to their earthbound cousins with the exception of displaying two large, feathery wings that enable them to fly. They will mate willingly with Common Cheetahs and produce cubs, as there is not much difference genetically between the two.

Featherwing cheetahs prefer to hunt in the sky, as their wings can be quite cumbersome in the forests where they would otherwise find food. They can catch and kill flying birds and bats with ease, and are at the top of the food chain in the sky. On the ground, they must be careful of large predators such as bears, wolves, and other large cats, and they are easily captured and killed if unable to escape to the sky because of their lighter, more fragile bones.

Mystery Egg Cheetahs.
These fascinating creatures are inspired by many adoptable agencies throughout DeviantART. They are rare and are given out only as contest prizes, never through normal breeding or custom purchases. No one knows quite where Mystery Eggs come from, as adult Mystery Egg Cheetahs never give birth to new Mystery Eggs.

What is special about these cheetahs that distinguishes them from all others is that they will develop colors, markings, and even mutations based on suggestions given to them in the CE thread. Mystery Egg cheetahs are very selective listeners, however, and may not take every suggestion given to them. They listen to their owner better than most other suggesters, so the owner is recommended to take extreme care in choosing their pet's looks. They are quite concerned about their appearances and tend to be rather vain, but a good owner will keep their egos in check.

Aside from a peculiar way of gaining their final appearance, which can change throughout their lives until they reach adulthood, Mystery Egg cheetahs are genetically identical to Common and Featherwing cheetahs, and will breed with either.

Mystery Egg Cheetahs will only listen to a suggestion if the text is written in the specified shade for that specific egg. :3
The shade doesn't matter, it just makes it easier for me to pick the suggestions out when I go to look for them. XD

Cheedrakes.
Distant relatives of common and even Featherwing cheetahs, Cheedrakes are so named because of the creature they resemble: dragons. Although they are extremely powerful and much larger than other species, they were nearly hunted to extinction for their exquisite scaled skins long ago. Eggs are sometimes stolen by hunters as well; the shells make beautiful plates, vases, and jewelry because of their pearl-like opalescent shine.

Formerly quite common, cheedrakes are now extremely rare, and getting one's hands on an egg to have as a pet is quite difficult indeed. Cheekdrakes dwell in the mountains and have very wide territories. They are extremely territorial and are generally solitary, except during the mating season. Unlike common and Featherwing cheetahs, who recover quickly from egg-laying, breeding is very hard on a female Cheedrake's body. Therefore, she mates only once every 20 days. Because female Cheedrakes generally stick strictly to set mating cycles, the male Cheedrake has no choice but to obey the 20-days rule.

A Cheedrake does not need a mate already within CE to have an egg; instead, the owner can simply send the Cheedrake out into the mountains to find a mate. The Cheedrake will return carrying its new egg wrapped delicately under its tail. Unfortunately for the Cheedrake's owner, this egg will never stay with its parent. Instead, as the solitary creature it is, a Cheedrake egg will seek out a new owner in order to stay by itself. One owner can never have more than two Cheedrakes at a time, and will not be able to keep any eggs borne of their own Cheedrakes.

Eyeless Cheetahs.
These cheetahs were born without eyes. Maybe they are a new subspecies that has recently come from caves? No one yet knows as there have not been enough of them spotted and studied for any definitive answers.

Due to being blind, their tails are longer and sweep back and forth around them like some strange sort of radar. They are usually found with their heads down and sniffing the surrounding area. Males have a large bump of fluff on the back of their necks, which might help them identify the different genders more easily when they meet.

Eyeless cheetahs seem to have no problem breeding with common cheetahs, but it is rare when their offspring pick up on their traits (eyelessness, long tail, etc.) as it seems to be a very recessive gene.

Leatherwing cheetahs.
Leatherwings are the common result of Cheedrake/Common cheetah pairings. The breed began when Cheedrakes were common, and has flourished despite the decline, due to the fact that their eggs are extremely similar to that of a Common cheetah, rather than its finer ancestor's. Leatherwings, though similar to Featherwings, are not as closely related as one might think. They live in the plains and mountains, where they can fly during the late evening to early morning hours and avoid detection as they hunt sheep, goats and, whenever they can catch them, pika. Because this breed is essentially a crossbreed, every now and again Leather X Leather breedings result in a Wingless Leatherwing, which can be distinguished by winglike markings on their back. They retain the temperament of the rest of their type, marking them as different. Leather X Feather breedings have an interesting, moderately rare effect; some specimens seem to inherit a direct split between their parents.

Leatherwings are often foul-tempered and hard to train, but a dedicated, knowledgeable owner can manage to tame one. Inexperienced cheetah owners are advised to take a more common cheetah type before they dare handle a Leatherwing, as they have been known to kill or abandon their owners if slighted.


Wolves.
Every once in a while, a very strange thing might occur in a litter of egg-laying cheetahs. In their natural habitat, cheetahs live in close proximity to, and relatively harmoniously with, a large pack of wolves, who also lay eggs. These eggs are nearly identical to cheetah eggs, so every once in a while a wolf egg will slip in to a cheetah litter.

Usually mother cheetahs can tell by sight and smell which eggs are theirs and which are another cheetah's or wolf's, so they promptly return the little ones to their proper mothers. But occasionally, it can be hard to tell whose egg is whose when they look very alike, and sometimes the birthmother is dead or cannot care for her offspring.

If this is the case, the kind parent cheetahs will take in the egg as their own and raise it as such. As the egg develops, it begins to recognize its siblings' and parents' markings and patterns, and will change in order to blend in.

Although it is a very surprising natural behavior that has baffled scientists for years, it is a completely natural, albeit very rare turn of events for a wolf pup to end up in a litter of cheetah cubs.

Adopting Information.
On this post will be a selection of cheetah pairs to choose from. In order to adopt from them, you must fill out the form you'll find below the pair. If you follow the rules and apply quickly enough, you will be sent an egg in a PM, which will hatch within 2-3 days and grow up within a week after that. After your cheetah grows up, you can adopt a new cub, breed it, enter contests with it, or just keep it.

Adopting Rules.
For these rules, the limit is three strikes, and you're out. You will be forgiven and warned two times for breaking them, but on your third offense, you will be blacklisted.

-You are not allowed to choose what your cub looks like or its gender. When you breed two animals in real life, the results are random, and so they will be here.
-At this point, you are allowed unlimited adult cheetahs, as long as you keep them somewhere (in your signature, a character thread, etc.) and don't forget about them. Do NOT abuse this rule, or I will have to make a limit. :C
-You are allowed ONE cheetah per litter.
-You are allowed only ONE growing cheetah at a time. Once your cheetah reaches adulthood, you may adopt another.
-All cheetah pairs will have FIVE cubs each unless otherwise specified. A name will appear right above each pair for every time they have been bred. When the pair reaches five hearts, they will be removed and replaced with a new pair.
-Do not edit your form after it has been posted except to fix a coding error (bold, font size, etc.) or change the name of your egg. If Tiki catches you changing the names of the couples, you will forfeit your egg for that round.
-No one is allowed to reserve cubs or to order for anyone other than themselves.
-Don't post a form when the post title says it's closed.
-More pairs may be added periodically, so please check back often!

Breeding Information:
When your cheetah grows up, it may wish to choose a mate, either someone else's free cheetah, a custom, or a default cheetah that I have made. This is where you'll find rules and guidelines for breeding, as well as a form to submit you desired pairings.

Rules and Guidelines.
As with adopting, breeding rules follow a three strikes and you're out policy. On your first two offenses, you will be warned, but on your third, you will be blacklisted.

-To breed two cheetahs, you must have the permission of your partner, except if you want to breed your cheetah with one from the default pairs by Tris.
-Both partners will receive one cub from their pair, leaving three for the community.
-The above does not apply if either partner possesses a currently growing cub.
-Male x male and female x female crosses are possible, but the offspring will only come in the parents' gender.
-Cheetahs cannot be bred with their parents, siblings, or half-siblings.
-A cheetah cannot be in two pairings at once. Pairings must be retired before a new couple can be formed.
-Even if you are the owner of a parent cheetah, you will NOT be able to choose your new cub's gender, appearance, or which cub you want out of the litter. Everything is random, but the owners of the parents will be more likely to get cubs with desirable mutations and colors.
-Do not submit a form if the title of this post says it's closed.
PLEASE NOTE: I require correspondence concerning litters. I'll make an announcement a day or so before I release bred litters, listing the ones that will go up, and asking the owners about getting an egg or not. If I don't hear from you... I'll assume it's a decline.

Breeding Tips and Hints.
-A couple in which both parents are drastically different colors and have unlike markings will yield the most complex and colorful offspring.
-Mutations, such as wings, are hereditary like markings.
-Some mutations are rarer than others, and may not appear consistently.

Auction Information.
This is where you can bid on a credit that can be used for a custom cheetah or custom cheetah package. These cheetahs can be based on your fursona and/or characters, or, in the case of a package, you may bid with one friend and share the spoils*. These credits can be gifted, but the original winner must post who they are giving the credit to.

*In the event that two people wish to share a Family package, one offspring will be created for both participants, resulting in one custom pair and two eggs.

With this token, you can get a custom cheetah with once source of inspiration, be it a song, a picture, a species, a color palette... anything. It cannot be of an existing character (ie: I couldn't get one of Soni). NO existing or specific designs will be accepted, just notes of inspirations. You may participate in both the raffle and the above mini-contests, but you can only win one or the other. Note: ONE raffle entry per person. No more than that.
