Hello, Seji! ^^ Can I call you Seji? I hope I could...
When you start A Song of Ice and Fire - make sure you have time. You should read it in, so to say, one sitting. In the quickest time possible for real thought-process reading, read it through. Why? Because it is so very very long! Otherwise you'll just pick up a novel and be like: "I can't remember anything that happened in the past novels!". It's really great because the characterization is great, the setting and pace are great too. Although it is long, it never really drags. It isn't afraid of killing off characters and showing fresh new faces or points of view you've never known before. It goes really far to just show you how complicated it all is and how it is completely impossible for everyone to be happy.
Haha, I've never actually read 1984 (although I want to), I suppose IQ84 could be half-based on it (c'mon, the title!). It isn't really that thick compared to A Song of Ice and Fire, it's probably so because your library has the version with all the trilogy in one book. And hardcover. But it reads quickly, and it has somewhat surreal air to it. It's prettily done (I could imagine all the locations before my eyes), but I liked Kafka on Shore and Hard-boiled Wonderland better.
Also, I took a glance at your signature, and in that one stamp there were half of the books I loved! ^^ Really refreshed my memory. Do you know perhaps a site which is like animelist.net? Basically a site you can find, list, rate and track all the books you've read?
