I understand this.
However, compared to the 20-30 minutes consumed in making a design, it is worth more in the long run to have a simple contest going for 2-4 pages than have a contest lasting for 1-2 weeks based on best art & story or something.
If you understand what I mean, if you have maybe 60 people enter a competition, they'll each put around 1-2 hours of work into their forms, possibly more. And it just causes more hard feelings in the end between the winner and others. If you see my point.

If I may add my opinion, I think that longer contests are better. I've guest artists for some adopts and I know how terrible it feels to have the sweetie you made be won by someone that doesn't give good attention to him/her. In longer contests, you can tell who's going to put in the effort and who wants the JBD and is really going to love it. There's also something about a contest that really helps one develop a bond with the JBD. You slowly form the character and gain a strong love for it. Yes, you may lose, and yes it hurts, but you can also have peace in knowing that it's going to be well taken care of by the other person.

Even if it is a "show me a funny picture" contest, you can get insight into the kind of person who is applying for the adopt as well. Someone who goes out on a whim to find a quick answer to an adopt could easily win, and not care for the character. I usually do spend a while on my designs, as well.

You guys both have great points, taking these both into consideration I think we should continue the way this adoption center is going right now as at the moment we are having a great amount of short contest go on for those who prefer and a few long contests for others to enter and spend a lot of there time on but be prepared to lose. I personally enjoy long contests because I feel like a really develop a bond that would help me stay active with the JBD later but I also think that short contests are good because they help provide the many many non-owners with beans quicker since there are so many who are desperate for a JBD.
I would suggest having non-owner JBDs more often because I think that a lot of members will just be satisfied with a single JBD to play with and aren't as desperate for a second.
Recently a few non-owner JBDs have been made so we don't really need any at the moment, I also think that some non-owner +fanclub only will be good because it can prove the contestants really want a JBD because they are active faclub members but they have not won one yet. I really love to see friends I've met in the fanclub chat finally get their JBDs and I'm sure many others can agree with this!
I don't mean to take over all the adoptable beans completely with these ideas just maybe have them a little more often.
