Short Story: I walked carefully into the kennel. The sparkling, inquisitive eyes of the Badger Deer shone all around me, each pair belonging to a totally unique, beautiful creature; however, although each had its own personality, looks and little quirks, they all shared one simple wish, that throbbed painfully in their hearts. This wish was that, someday soon, they would be the one, chosen by somebody special and kind, who would then take them home to be looked after and loved again. There was tension in the air, as each of the animals stopped, and turned to look at me. It was not as if they were being treated badly here, however; in fact, their situation was totally the opposite. They were currently all in their own large, spacious stable. Each had a thick, warm straw bedding and a hay net so they could have a little nibble whenever they felt hungry. I had seen myself the large, lush field that stretched for miles just outside the stable block.
I looked around me at the little faces which had appeared above the doors, and one shone out like a little candle, drawing me in. I walked towards him. He had ruffled fur which was a shade of dusty pink or purple. His big pink nose stuck out to greet me as I grew closer, and he nuzzled my arm as I gave his head a little stroke. That was that. It was decided. He was mine.
