Krystal's eyes widened in surprise and she looked down at the boy. "Ran into a tree?" she repeated, confusion colouring her words. She shrugged, smiling. Who was she to call others clumsy anyway? Tilting her head to the side, she watched the tiny girl glance at the sitting boy, a somewhat nervous look on her face. She couldn't help her gaze being drawn to the thick scar on the bottom right of the girl's face, her mouth opening slightly as if she wanted to ask about it. She swallowed the question though, knowing that the other girl might be sensitive about it, especially since the scar was already visible enough on her face as it was. Feeling slightly embarrassed and not knowing where else to look, Krystal turned away to check on the rest of the group, hoping Eloise hadn't wandered too far off. As unfriendly as the other girl was and her possibly murderous tendencies, they still had to watch out for each other; that was the best way to survive, in her opinion.

Flying a little ways away from the group, Ying could gradually begin to spot the other Guides coming into view. He was pretty sure they were Guides, or else it would indeed be a very odd coincidence that a wolf, a cat, a cougar and a wolverine were close to converging on the same spot, the teens. There still seemed to be more humans than Guides, but the eagle assumed the other animals hadn't yet come into being. Soaring lower, he landed on a scraggly bush and rested there, not feeling the need to show himself quite yet. The Passage had barely began, after all. It would be interesting to see how the humans solved their problems when they were on their own, and he hadn't quite identified his other half yet. He suspected it might be the only straggler, but he couldn't be certain till later.

Letting her hand drop to her side Serenity backed up trying to smile softly, it seemed a little more sad than than Krystals’ but she couldn’t really do anything about that. At least not yet, Krystal had an enthusiastic light around her, it was just so different from what she could see in herself; her shyness and awkwardness seemed to infect those around her and make it just that more difficult for people to talk to her. She didn’t blame them though, Serenity blamed herself and that crippling shyness of her’s. When Krystal repeated what had happened to the tall boy Serenity nodded and smiled slightly, her throat was once again closed, it was like there was something stuck down there. “I-…” she began trying to say that she agreed with Alena but she didn’t think that the boy wasn’t a hundred percent, she could still see him being a little woozy. She thought they could move but she didn’t think that he would be able to keep up, or could he? She wasn’t sure of course, she hadn’t had much experience with this kind of thing, the only person Serenity had been close enough with to help was her grandmother; she of course had a little problem keeping up but they had never fallen too behind, they made sure to keep the group in sight. Kicking the snow in front of her Serenity looked down and bit her tongue remembering that she’d drawn attention to herself with that stupid ‘I’.

Stomping along Cuán didn’t feel hungry or thirsty, in truth he didn’t feel anything except the need to know who his other half was- girl, boy, tall, short it didn’t really matter to him; all that mattered was his spirit. His other half probably wouldn’t be as amazing or strong but honestly all they needed was a brave heart, but being strong would be nice to. Even if he wasn’t hungry Cuán felt like hunting, well, not exactly hunting but maybe scaring another predator into leaving him their food- after all why should he have to work when someone else would do it for you. Shaking off some of the falling snow from his pelt Cuán stopped, lifting his head to the wind the wolverine inhaled, eyes gleaming with mischief he walked on not bothering to quiet his footsteps. What he had smelled was a cougar; also known as a mountain lion but did it really matter? Where there was a large predator there was normally prey.
Shuffling along Cuán followed the cat's scent making sure to stay down wind and out of sight, it never hurt to be cautious after all. Staying out of sight was proving to be a bit more difficult though, his brown pelt made him stick out like a sore thumb against the snow covered ground. Finally catching the tan coat of a cougar Cuán grinned, but when he noticed that the cat had no food his mood sank...he'd been looking forward to scaring her out of her meal. Walking up he stood off to the side and a little further away from the cat "hey, kitty you ok?" he asked grudgingly, his best guess was that the feline was a guide; why else would she be here?

    Eloise Amelia Blackwithe
    {guide; ying} {loveless} {female}
    the c o l d hunter

Eloise made her way far enough from the rest of the people. She found tracks of the elk heard that was moving south at the same time, parallel to the group. Only the fools were blind to the fact that food would travel next to them only a few miles away. She couldn't bring down an elk by herself, and risking a stampede was suicide. She went to the river, got a drink, and bow-fished. She tied thin rope to one of her arrows and caught three salmon out of the icky river. She smiled in delight of her skill and success. She wondered what he others were eating. Dried liver? No, not Eloise. The hunter would eat like a king tonight. She caught one more, maybe to share. She wanted some acceptance into the group. Perhaps there was someone like her, someone with skill.

She ran back to the trail where she had left the group. Their sluggish tracks went straight on south. She smiled again at their predictability. She noticed a figure in one of the barren trees which were scattered loosely around the landscape. It was a large bird, and eagle maybe. She respected such predators, and found herself reaching for her pack. She cut half of a salmon, spilling its blood. The thick smell made her wrinkle her nose, and the blood looked brilliant against the snow. Perfect. She set down both ends of the bloodied fish on the snow, and left. She hoped the eagle would get to it before any other scavenger got to it. She picked up her sack, and her pace. She only slowed when the group came into sight again. This time, she came to the group, not trailing behind. She saw Krystal and the others, greeting them all with a nod. "I have some good news. The elk herd is moving with us, only a few miles to the east. If we keep up a steady pace, we won't have to worry about food. And speaking of food, I brought dinner." she announced, pulling out the three large salmon from her sack. "if we divide and cook them, there should be enough." She added, holding each by the lip in her fingers.

(Aha, yeah -that's because our school is laptop-based, and it provides them, and all the repair services as well -as long as you had the foresight to invest in insurance. XD Oh, no -I don't think I'd be able to get by for a year without a computer! D: It's excellent you got a new one at last, though. c: And, that's perfectly fine!
Sorry for the delay in my own reply -I just finished the 30 hour famine, and I couldn't work up any muse at all yesterday, what with my grumbling stomach. Dx)

A small, hesitant smile quirked the corners of Ari's lips as Krystal's eyes widened with surprise -it was a rather funny (if extremely unfortunate) way to obtain an injury. His attention was snagged by Serenity as she opened her mouth, beginning to voice something, but dropping off into silence after merely uttering a single letter. I what?, he wondered. Gaze flickering between her and Krystal, Ari let himself marvel at their differences. Short and tall, light-skinned and dark, extroverted and reserved. It was amazing, how two people raised in much the same circumstances -or so he assumed- could grow up so different.
Serenity kicked the snow, head turning to face the ground. Ari felt a twinge of sympathy for the shorter girl -she reminded him so much of himself, it was almost unnerving. But, whilst Serenity commanded his compassion, Krystal had his envy. It wasn't fair, the level of confidence she exuded; assured and open. If only he had the capacity to channel that -maybe then, would his opinions be heard.
The silence was beginning to stretch out, and whilst Ari usually relished a lack of sound, it was rather taut in company. He began to consider opening his mouth to speak, and thus shatter it, but no words came to mind. His mouth opened nevertheless, almost against his will, hanging open as if he believed he could catch the right words with it, like fish with a net.
All of a sudden, he became aware of another girl approaching their cluster, and his mouth snapped shut with an audible click. Brown eyes narrowed in scrutiny of the newcomer. She was tall -taller than Krystal, taller than he (again, another spike of resentment), with dark blonde hair, and fair skin and features. Sharp green eyes shone in her face. With a nod at the group, the girl reached back and pulled three salmon from her pack. Ari's eyebrows rose in surprise. Fish? Where had she gotten fish? She launched straight into conversation without introduction, and his eyes roved over the pink-bellied creatures, stomach growling its approval. He hadn't even been aware of the echoing cavern in his belly -but, suddenly, it was very much present. "Er, okay," Ari fumbled, head bobbing in agreement. "That-" He paused, looking over at his companions for back-up. "-that sounds good. I think."

(I feel your pain, Speak. D: )

Head jerking painfully upwards in reaction to a sudden noise to her side, the mountain lion struggled to her paws, ruff raising hostilely on the back of her neck, and claws unsheathing in the snow. Gwendolyn bared her teeth feebly, ears flattening against her head, and golden eyes narrowing in a combination of pain and animosity. A stocky, brown creature stood at a distance, looking for all the world like a small bear. Wolverine, her mind supplied sluggishly, the word accompanied by a spike of pain. Her gaze roved over the formidable, white claws poking out from the long brown fur of his paws, and the muscles still visible through the thick pelt. Even in the best of health, an altercation with this beast would be difficult. Gwendolyn was not certain who would come out on top -but she did know she would rather not test her hypothesis.
"Who are you?" she hissed with rancour, feeling distinctly unsteady on her paws. Unease rose in her -she didn't like not having complete lucidity in potentially-dangerous encounters. Her skull gave another insistent throb, and Gwnedolyn tensed, trying not to wince visibly. Go away, she yowled silently. Go away, away, away. She would prefer not to have to voice that statement aloud -hopefully her body language would supply it clearly enough. This impromptu meeting was stacked against her favour, and the feline was eager to end it as quickly and cleanly as possible. Let the beast lumber on in whatever direction he had been going, and leave her here in the snow to gather her strength.
Wait. A thought sparked along her neural pathways, giving her sudden pause. Was this wolverine a Guide, as well? Her gaze narrowed even further, eyes merely slits now, ice-sharp slivers of gold. Tail tip flicking behind her at a rapid and regular pace, like a metronome beating out 6/8 time. He could be. He looked the age for it; no white hairs lightened the dark of his muzzle, and, whilst rather large already, there was a chance he hadn't reached his full size yet. Gwendolyn didn't know -wolverines thrived in cold environments naturally. It would be a mistake to theorize without further data. So, the mountain lion swallowed the question, fighting back the pain in her head as she awaited a response.

Krystal brightened when she turned to see Eloise approaching their small group, holding up a few dead salmon in her hands. "Thanks, that was really great thinking!" she said gratefully, mimicking Ari's nods enthusiastically. "We can all go and have a look at the elk next time, and I could try to get one with my bow." Her eyes formed two half-moons as she smiled, patting at her bow eagerly. As cheerful as she was, Krystal was all too conscious that she would have to pull her weight around here as well; she didn't have her father to provide everything for her anymore, and she was eager to show off her skills with a bow. Pushing down a pang of longing to see her father's face once more, she looked around the bare landscape for a moment before suggesting, "Let's move a little ways off and set up camp. We don't want to be eating around here." She gestured to the few spatters of blood on the snow, although her tone was light. She still hadn't learned the name of the injured boy, but she supposed there would be enough time later on for that. Leaning down, she grabbed his pack with a soft inhalation. "Let's go! You shouldn't be carrying anything with that injury." Her tone was reproving, as if he had insisted on carrying his own pack in the first place.

Ying watched silently as the straggler left part of a fish lying on the snow, staining the ice crimson. Spreading his wings, he took to the sky again, circling slowly as he watched the girl return to the group, his respect for her increasing minutely at the rightful reverence she accorded to birds of prey. It was just too bad he didn't feel any need to eat, but he plunged down to grab the fish in his talons anyway, winging his way over to a nearby tree and taking a few cursory bites. An interesting taste, he mused, but nevertheless he left most of the remains on the snow. Shuffling around on the snow laden branch, his talons digging through the snow and into the bark for a better grip, he looked around in a bored manner. With his piercing gaze and far-seeing eyesight, it wasn't too difficult to track the progress of the teens without moving an inch from the tree.

She handed out the fish, allowing for everyone who wanted one to take one. "There's plenty for each of us to share." She looked to The boy Krystal was with. He seemed to stutter, and was smaller, shorter, weaker. of course, Eloise saw everything in the eyes of survival. She narrowed her eyes to him, and a sharp venom was in her voice. "And who are you?" She asked, her sharp green eyes bearing down on him. Her attention was only captured when Krystal suggested a camp. "There are some rocks to the east. That's closer to the herd, and not too far. It would be more sheltered than here in the open."

A l e n a
The sound of crunching snow, signaling the arrival of yet another traveler, dragged Alena's eyes from the snow and to the girl that had stood beside Krystal not long before. Except, this time she had fish in her hands and a voice that seemed to extract a peculiar coldness from the glacial winds that whirred around their heads.
Instinctively, Alena's eyes narrowed. This new girl spoke almost as if she were a caretaker addressing a demimonde of first-time caribou hunters and Alena couldn't help but note the disdain that came to her voice as she singled out the brown-haired boy. Goodness.. Where's that fish from anyway? Certainly all the rivers'd be frozen...
Alena blinked suddenly, as if in emergence from a daydream. There she was again, over analyzing the simple and establishing herself on spurious judgements. Besides, thanks to this girl, they had found a means of subsistence- which would be their most important concern in the many months to come.
"Yeah, that's great work," Alena's voice carried itself into the air as she motioned to the fish before stealing a fretful glance at the rest of the group. For some unwonted reason she felt as if she were intruding on something. "Shall we take a look at this elk herd, then?" Already, she could feel her feet beginning to angle eastward as she took a tentative half-step forward. As eager as she was to get moving, she waited to see if the others would move as well.

Her attention was caught by a slim, athletic-looking girl. SHe had a simple, but pretty face, and seemed extremely keen on Eloise. Eloise greeted her with a bright white smile, her teeth as bleached as the snow behind her. Eloise was beautiful, often her mother would compare her beauty to the land around them. Her skin was pale, but clean. Her hair was wild in curly blonde locks, and she had the sharp green eyes of a predator. She had the mindset to survive, with or without the group.

She thought about going now, and saw no reason to argue with her plan of action. "I'm up for it, but Krystal is correct, we should set up and establish a camp. I suggest we move swiftly, and get ahead of the herd. That way we can camp, rest, and the herd will come to us. Or, we could camp now, rest, and follow the herd east. We do not want a stampede, that could be suicide with a herd the size of this. I think the best plan is to stay behind the herd, so if they do start to run, they don't trample us."
