Yep, it is his mother's(Anastasia) sash. I imagine that orphaned Daeets of sashed mothers would take it from her, as it still smells like her and provides comfort.
In Thanny's case he does it because he's FABULOUS.

And yeah, if things went differently, I guess he would have been a different Daeet.. Lol, could be fun to see what he'd end up being like... x3
