First things first; those gods you hear about in Greek mythology? Their not myths. They are very, very real. The gods reside on Olympus, just as they did in ancient times, but not in Greece.
When Western Civilization moved to the United States, so did the gods. Olympus can be found in Manhattan, on the 600th floor of the Empire State Building. Yes, you heard right; 600th floor.
Anyway, the gods haven't changed much since ancient times. You've probably heard the many stories of the gods coming down to earth and... 'hooking up' with mortals? Well, their habits haven't changed much. The offspring of these meetings are known as demigods; half god, half human. Pretty cool, right? No.
Demigods are hunted for most of their lives by monsters, and very few live past the age of sixteen. They have little or no contact at all with their godly parent, and life at home isn't always good.
Fortunately, there's one safe haven for them; Camp Half-Blood.
On Long Island, New York there is a special camp for demigods where they train to protect themselves, go on quests and... survive. The camp is protected by the magical powers of the Golden Fleece, and although there are monsters in the forests at the camp; it's the safest place on heaven and earth for them.
Here, at Camp Half-Blood, demigods are sorted into cabins depending on who their godly parent is. It used to be that there were only twelve cabins for the Twelve Olympians, but after a major battle it was decreed that the minor gods and goddesses would also recieve cabins in their honour.
Demigods spend their time eating, sleeping and training mostly. Occasionally there are quests; either a god or goddess sends them out on an errand of sorts, or the Oracle speaks a prophecy.
Chiron, the legendary trainer of heroes, trains demigods at Camp Half-Blood; and yes, he is a centaur. Dionysus, or Mr D. directs the camp; a punishment for chasing an 'off-limits' nymph. And as for the Oracle, that would be Diana Holland; her predecessor being Rachel Dare.
Anyway, that's the basics.
So... Welcome to Camp-Half Blood, hero!
