The sun arose between the two old trees Abie had grown fond of, the sound of his mother sleeping could be easily heard, father had yet to come back, and now Abie worried for his father's safety his sisters slept in a huddled spot under what now was becoming to be a shaded tree now that the sun had began to rise, they wouldn't wake up anytime soon because they often slept many hours unlike Abie. Abie's stomach growled warning him of being hungry, he pawed at the floor bored, where was father? Was he okay? Should he go looking for him? The questions ran around in his young mind, and of course out of curiosity he leapt from were he sat and decided to go looking.
Abie’s feet were tired and he was even more hungry, a rabbit decided to leap in front of him catching Abie’s natural hunting instincts he chased it but it was fast, and Abie’s legs were still small, he tripped over his paws and tumbled over, In a heap of fur he tumbled down the small hill, down he went until he had up-righted himself and sat down his head spinning, so yes Abie wasn’t the best hunter, but he still tried, mother had always said trying was better then giving up, he got up after his spinning head had stabled, he looked around at the landscape, where was he? He knew this forest well but never had he come to these parts before, the ground was dry under his padded feet, the sound of rushing water could be heard around him, the trees were not crowed in as much as what he was use to.
He could here the clashing of objects close nearby, he followed the sound, to find his father and another male fighting, he growled and Abie’s back hair went up kind of like a dog or a cat’s hair went, he stepped closer, out of the safety of the forest he went, the river to his left.
“Leave him alone!” Abie demanded, the fight stopped and both males looked at him,
“No Abie don’t…” his father spoke
“Leave” the other male spoke
“No make me!” Abie said, the other male laughed and walked closer to Abie, Abie backed up into a tree he moved to his left closer to the water, the water was deep Abie could tell, Abie was a smart young one though and he would not go into the heavy running water, he would easily drown in it for he rarely left the safety of the forest and the forest he lived in so far as he knew hadn’t any rivers, maybe there was maybe he was wrong, maybe the river behind him ran into the forest but from what he saw now it did not. He looked at his beaten up father then back at the other male who was beginning to charge towards Abie.
“No!” his father screamed getting up he chased the other male, Abie ducked, and then there were clashes of teeth, claws, and horns. Then all of a sudden the cold river had embraced Abie, the other male had been thrown in to, probably by mistake Abie fell in with him, the other male kicked and fought with Abie, trying to break free of the rushing water, the male was probably not much older then a year, probably been born the summer before Abie had, he wasn’t very big, but he was strong. There was splashes from the shore bank, and then teeth in the back of Abie’s neck his small body was dragged out of the river, the other male had hold of his father’s tail, and with the current and his weight his father was dragged into the water once more.
“Father!” Abie screamed chasing after them at the shore bank, there was a waterfall coming ahead, and then it was there, both his father and the other male went crashing down hitting rocks and other objects in the small but dangerous waterfall, all Abie could do was watch, and then after awhile of his father’s body disappearance he washed up on the shore bank, Abie ran down to see if his father was okay, but his father didn’t stir, he was dead, the other male had gotten out of the water on the other side.
“I hate you! Look what you’ve done to him!” Abie screamed
“He started it” the other male said but he knew that his father would not fight unless threatened or hurt in any way, the other male disappeared into the distance, Now where was home? And when he got home what was he to say to his mother and sisters?
