Reason why you want to adopt it:
She caught my eye immediately. Usually, when something catches your eye, it's because it stands out, has bright colors. But not Nyota. She caught my eye because of her dark colors. I have a hidden love of stars. You can look up and instantly see a beauty in nature like no where else. When I saw Nyota's black blanket speckled with white, I immediately thought of stars. Nyota means "stars" in Swahilli. I think it fits. A beautiful name for a beautiful Daeet.
Desired name:
Nyota
Age:
Three
Personality:
Nyota is like the night sky, silent and sly. Watching, waiting. Nyota usually doesn't say much. She is very calm, very quiet. She can pass by most others unseen, slipping by while they chatter on. Nyota was never a big fan of words, always preferring body language over peppering someone with questions just to see what they are feeling. The biggest difference between body language and spoken word? Body language can't lie.
Though silent,Nyota, is defiant. Well, as much as she can be. Most Daeets she knows consider her a mute, and they don't expect a lot from her. They think she doesn't speak to be annoying. That she wants everyone to know she is better than them. But it's not that. She just doesn't feel the need to speak. Nyota is also very adventurous.
History:
Nyota's parents look down upon her and her littermates. "She still hasn't spoken. Her siblings are speaking. Quite a lot I might add. But not Nyota. What's wrong with her?" her mother quietly whispers to her father. "It sometimes takes a bit for kits to learn. Give her a bit." Nyota's father replies. Her mother looks into her father's eyes. "And if she doesn't learn? What then? She'll be mute! Oh, no! She's mute!" Mother begins to cry. "She will speak," Father reassured, "give her time." after a pause, he added, "And if she is mute, we will love her just the same. Won't we?" He looked into Nyota's mother's eyes. Her eyes were the image of sadness. "Yes," she solemnly replied, "we will."
Nyota watched her parents cry over her. Oh, yeah, I'm mute. Well, they consider me mute. They say they'll love me no matter what. But their rigid figures and clenched jaws say otherwise. Oh, boy. This could get...interesting. Yeah, let's say interesting. I have a feeling in my gut. I have to leave my family.
And that's what I did.
It was in the middle of the night when I left. The best time for me. I love the night. My fur blends in with stars. Hence my name. I silently crawl out of our den and take a final look at my family. I turn my head and look at the forest. That's my family now. I walk toward the endless expanse of trees, and whisper my first words, "You are my family now, the trees and the stars."
Journal, Day One of Adventure.
I have left my family. But I'm fine, I have my new family. Even though I've only been on this adventure for one day, I have seen oh, so much! I never knew Daeets could come in such bright colors! Bright yellows mixed with radiant blues and a template of dark green fur. Oh, how I wanted to to have just one color of those on my fur! I can't help but wonder if having a pelt of the stars is a good thing. Wait, don't think like that, Nyota! Jealousy is not the thing I need now!
I met a rather interesting fellow today. "Well, hello there, young lady!" This odd Daeet said. He had a snow white coat with green eyes, ears, and belly. "Are you a little lost?" he said, leaning down into my face with his huge eyes. It's supposed to be a nice gesture. I think it's repulsing. I bare my teeth and growl my fieriest kit growl I can. I see amusement dance in the male Daeets eyes. "Aren't you a fierce one, eh? Well, I can tell you know where you're going. I'll let you on your way" he got even closer and whispered,"I'll be sure to warn my buddies of the fierce sky kit!" He walks away chuckling to himself. What an odd Daeet. I ventured on.
The world is a much bigger place than I expected. And there are a lot more Daeets than I expected. Most see me and scoff, seeing me as a stubborn kit trying to be big and leave the comfort of home. A few, like the "friendly" fellow I told you about before try to help me. I always turn their offers down. But, today I saw one or two others. I saw a look of understanding in their eyes. Like they know what I'm going through. I nod a silent thank you to them and slip by. There are others like me.
Journal, Day Three of Adventure.
Boy, I have a lot to write. I never knew so much could happen in just two days. It started out to me waking up with a wiry female Daeet standing over me. I scramble up and take it the Daeet. She definatly has seen her fair share of years, gray whiskers sprouting by her muzzle and dark rings around her eyes. But she still has a fiery sense to her that tells me she hasn't lost her youth. "Hiya there! What's a young kitten like you doin' out in this here, wilderness?" She says in her smoky voice. When I don't respond, she laughs and deep, throaty laugh. "Little scared, huh? Well, that's okay, youngen. I'll help ya'. What's your name, girl?" I don't say anything. "Well," the Daeet says, "I guess I'll call you, hmmm, I'll you Star? Kay? Star okay?"I clear my throat."Nyota, my name is Nyota." The female smiles at me. "Ahh, Swahili for Star. Appropriate. You can call me, Mango." I ask Mango, "You know Swahili?" Mango smiles. "I know many things, kit. Now, this seems a bit sudden, but I would like to travel with me? I ain't goin' anywhere specific. You can decide." I know I should stay alone, but I agree anyway. I like Mango.
Me and Mango set off as soon as it was light enough. And I saw why her name was Mango. She had a simple pelt, yellow-orange color, speckled with pink and green. Radiant green eyes, too. We didn't have an exact destination. Well, we didn't have any destination. Mango told stories, I listened. Don't wanna bore you with the details.
Journal, Day Fourteen of Adventure
All the days have been a blurr. You have no idea how many stories Mango had. I stayed silent most of the time, but when she mentioned a white and green Daeet, I pipe up. "You mean the white Daeet with green eyes, ears and stomach? I met him not too long ago!" Mango chuckles, "Oh,yes! He's a character, that one. Calls himself Bernie. He's unique." I laugh. "You got that right! How do you know him?" Mango suddenly has a distant look on her face. "He's my brother. I haven't seen him in ages! He's an odd one." I laugh again. "Oh, yeah!"
---
We continued our journey. Mango may have been old, but she was a tough one. But I knew she wouldn't last forever. Around day, oh let's see, seventy-two of our adventure, Mango fell sick. I tried to heal her, I really did. But I was never one with medicine. I knew the time was coming, this was out last conversation:
"Nyota? Nyota, my time has come." Mango weakly says.
"No, no! Mango! I can't do this without you!"
"Yes, you can. You are strong. You are the Daeet of the Stars."
"I will never forget you, Mango!" Tears are already streaming down my face.
"And I, you. Goodbye, Nyota
