Cuak cuak, cuak cuak. His Blackberry beeped against his leg, inside his pocket. He had turned the volume up, so he didn't miss
Astra or Reese's answers. He thought it would be Reese's answer, begging him to let her sleep instead of sending her stupid
messages. But he was wrong, it wasn't from her, it was from Astra.
Of course. See you soon (:
She was coming. Perry tried to think what was left for Astra to do. Probably half an hour of make up, another half for her
hair and another hour to dress up. Girls. When would they understand that a boyfriend didn't need make up on their faces or
fancy clothes? Perry could do with jeans and a sweatshirt, but she'd come dressed with a skirt or leggins, or whatever she felt
like this morning. With a sigh, Perry left his phone on the kitchen table, where he had been waiting for the answer while
eating some cookies, and started getting everything ready for the Queen's arrival.
The TV was turned on, and slow music was playing. The house felt so alone, but at the same time, Perry liked the feeling of
it, the emptiness, the silence. Sometimes, he just enjoyed being alone. He really liked his parents, his sister, his girlfriend Astra,
but he could also enjoy being in silence or alone. However, too many hours alone were boring. He needed to be alone, but he also
needed people. "What if Astra wants to watch a certain show?", Perry thought, standing in front of the TV, wondering
if there was anything interesting and worthy to see. He liked Netflix better, there he could do whatever he wanted...and his
sister too. But usually, he didn't mind.
His relationship with his sister was strange. They didn't hate each other. In fact, they enjoyed each other's company. But they
also had their own space, space for themselves, for their friends, their relationships... His sister also had a boyfriend, and Perry
liked helping her with her doubts, just like she helped him many times with Astra. "What should I gift Astra for her
birthday?", "Where should I take her?", "Would she like red or white roses better?". That was Perry's everyday. And
nights. He could spend nights thinking what to do to surprise her. He was sure Astra loved him, but he wanted her to be sure
about him. "Maybe she just wants a film", he told himself, taking out some DVDs and turning on the Wii. He wasn't
sure if there was any romantic movie there, between all that mess of English soap operas and scary films. Probably Astra
would like something from that mess.
Perry sat on the couch. On his mind, he started to list all the things he could do while waiting for Astra to arrive. Last time
he had checked, it had been thirty minutes since Astra's message. Perry checked again, not impatiently, but confident she
would take her time to arrive. An hour since Astra's message, his clock said. She probably had another hour of getting ready
ahead, and fifteen minutes or so to arrive to his house. Perry sighed. In front of him, the TV was turned on, something about
relationships and the problems they used to carry with them. Perry changed, zapping until he found something better, something
so he could avoid thinking about the relationship, and its problems. He wasn't sure if it was better to confront the problems
or avoid them. Both options seemed horrible.
Perry got distracted by the steps at the other side of the hallway to the apartment. Could it be...? No, surely they were mistaken.
Because Astra was still getting ready in her house, didn't she? The doorbell rang, and Perry walked to the door, ready to correct
the mistaken address. He opened the door... and found Astra standing in front of him.
"Good evening, m'lady. Would you like to come in?"
A smirk appeared on his face as he stepped aside to let her in. Grabbing her coat, he kissed her. First on her cheek, then on her lips,
leaving her coat on the sofa and drawing his arms around her, resting his hands on her hips.
"So...do you want to stay here and watch a movie or something, or do you want to go out?
He said, leaning on the entrance door, awaiting her answer, locking his eyes on hers.
