Dude you guys when I first came on here I was like "why is everyone asking that I have reading abilities isn't that obvious" when they asked for literacy. Do you guys realize that, compared to my actual books, I am not going to bother rambling on and on about my character's internal feelings if I don't have to? For chrissakes, I joined HP rp when I first joined here and I maybe posted 5 lines per post and we has to make a second thread because we posted so much. And for that rp, 5 lines was a lot. And then j go into a lit rp and people are like posting wip posts and I'm like "what's the point in posting an rp post that's A WORK IN PROGRESS" in a group rp when everyone else is posting too? And for godssakes, if it takes you three days to finish your wip post and everyone has moved on without you, what was the point in posting? If you were truly literate, you should be able to whip out a good post in an hour or so. That's what I think. Longer, depending on how long you take to type and such, but Jesus, you should be able to finish in one sitting.
And I hate it when owners accept people who are clearly not literate because they're pals or whatever. It's fine that you're friends but god that doesn't exempt them from the rules. I freak out when I see I've made a spelling error on my form or a phrasing mistake and then this other person there has all these grammar errors and confuses "comma" with "embellishment" and they're accepted. That makes me question if the owner knows what literacy is.
Why in the world would I bother writing 5 paragraphs? who wants to read all that? honestly, who wants to read 1947201 paragraphs about someone waking up in the morning? I don't. If I saw that in a book, I'd throw it back on the shelf. Do you know why we deny people with perfectly correct grammar and 4paragraph samples? Because out of those 4 paragraphs, maybe one is actually constructive. Everything else is just fluff. I don't need to know she woke up and whined and went to the bathroom and got changed into her favorite pink sweater and went downstairs and had a conversation with NPCs (this also annoys me: when people can't think of anything else so they just make conversations with NPCs. You're controlling them. It doesn't count.). Do people not understand length does not mean literacy? I joined an rp once where 5 paragraphs were required and quit after my first post because I could not think of anything to say. What the hell do you talk about for five paragraphs? Who wants to read me rambling for five paragraphs? It's a damn roleplay, not a novel, we're making. We don't need all the crazy out there descriptions of her hair tips. What we need are actions, reactions, and speech. Everything else, really, is almost unnecessary. Especially in roleplays, the amount you can post plot wise is limited (unlike a book). Do not tell me I'm illiterate. I am perfectly capable of posting five paragraphs. I wrote 86k words of a novel in one month. But I am not wasting my time, and I don't feel like wasting yours later, to write a post about how great the gazpacho is. Unless it comes up in conversation, I skip over paragraphs where the character is internalizing about their terrible past. I didn't come to the rp to hear sob stories. I came for the plot. Do you actually think I read all that .-.
Of course, this is not applicable to all situations, but this is how I feel in group rps in particular.
God I wanted to vent for such a ling time
Edit: sorry about spelling errors. Fast typing + phone =/= accuracy ^^;
