m&m
"I”m a gamer because I don't have a life – I've chosen to have many."

A horrible blare of noise ripped through the apartment building. It roused people from a dead sleep, made insomniacs jump to their feet and startled cats out of their fur. The building filled with shouting, barely possible to hear over the clamorous scream of the... fire alarm?

Martin woke with a violent start, rolling off his bed to the floor with a huge thud. " Horde!" he screamed, scrabbling to his hands and knees. "James! The horde... is." He stopped, and pushed himself up to his feet. "Attacking?" he mumbled. No, wait. He managed to get his mind up to something of the right speed. Fire alarm. He blinked in the suddenly bright light. "Fire!" There was a reddish glow in his room too. With another yell, he grabbed his pillow, whirled around and tired to smother... the alarm clock?

He clicked on the light, and removed the pillow. The brilliant red numbers had looked, to his sleepy brain, like... he groaned and stumbled out of bed, yelling. "James!" He pulled on a pair of probably clean sweat-pants on over his boxers and yelled again "Fire!" The alarm was still on, preventing him from thinking clearly. He heard a muffled sound from outside his room, probably James yelling something like Do you really think I don't know?.

He opened the door out of his room and ran into the hallway, bumping into someone outside his door. He apologized, and hurried on without waiting for a response. Down one hallway, one flight of spiral stairs, and he was outside the building in the brisk autumn air.

Brisk, my butt. He shivered as the cold wind whistled past him, and shoved his hands into his armpits to keep them warm. Real bright, M&M, he thought. Don't bring your coat during a fire-alarm evacuation. I'm going to freeze. There was a crowd of people on the pavement outside the apartment, chattering nervously about the possible fire. "It was most likely a false-alarm," he heard someone behind him say, and he nodded absent-mindedly, scanning the crowd for his roommate, James.

Okay, you all can post now! It's short-ish, because I have to leave for class really soon, and didn't feel like adding a lot of extraneous details. The dark green bits are places where other characters (as of yet unnamed) are involved.

James David Strider

The unnaturally calm night was rudely interrupted by the sound of an ear-splitting siren sounded loudly throughout the building. From inside of his dormitory bedroom, James couldn't admit that he had actually been sleeping, nor that he had been awoken by the sound. His insomnia had kept him up like it did most nights, and despite the late hour it was, he managed to keep his cool as he slowly sat up from the position he had previously kept lying in his bed. More disturbing than the loud siren had to be his roommate Martin's reaction to the sound in the first place. James watched, his eyebrow raised as the man violently jerked up from the bed opposite to his, rolling off onto the floor in surprise. The sound of his body hitting the hard ground made a rather unpleasant thump, and James just watched, a mixed feeling of amusement and annoyance, as the man blindly stumbled around in the dark, pulling on pants that probably were not clean. All the while, yelling. While James opened his mouth to reply however, he broke off, as Martin had already stomped out of the bedroom, yelling the word fire! over and over. The sound of his voice echoed down through the halls.

Once he had slammed the door behind him, James rolled his eyes, and calmly got out of bed, pulling on a pair of jeans and a shirt over his bare chest. Although the sign of the siren was to alert them of a possible flame in the building, he couldn't really find it within himself to care, as it probably was just a mistake - some student who pulled it by accident. Silently he pulled on his coat over his clothes, and stepped out into the chaotic hallway, eyes slightly narrowed. The loud sound irritated him, blasting into his ears in a form worse than his usual headaches. Although he usually was one to enjoy chaos, the fact that this one was at the expense of his ears grated against his nerves. Whoever had pulled the drill would certainly be put onto his long list of people he disliked. Or maybe just the opposite.

He found his way down the steps of the building quite easily, dodging the passing students with ease, as his body was very fast to react. Silently he stepped out onto the sidewalk, his bi-colored eyes scanning the large group of students who had gathered outside. Most of them seemed half-asleep, and it was highly amusing to him that they all relied so heavily on sleep. So much unlike himself, who frequently could go a few days with only a few hours of rest. James spotted his roommate a few yards away, and he gave Martin a small smirk. He approached him calmly, his steps fluid and giving the impression that there was nothing wrong with the situation in the slightest. He certainly was one of the only ones who was keeping his cool.

Seeing that his roommate was shirtless, and given that the autumn air was rather cool, he raised an eyebrow. "Enjoying the weather, I see?" he asked pleasantly, his eyes glinting.

{{. Rose Lydia

"Oh, dammit," she cursed in a dainty, loud whisper.

With a frying pan ablaze in her hands, old recipe book in another, Rose stopped, and panicked. Had the old English cookbook said she should light the oil and alcohol with a flame, or let them simmer gently until all had evaporated? Whatever it was, Rose had obviously chosen to do the wrong thing, and now her kitchen was alight. Great way to start her stay. Burning the kitchen down.

Heat licked at her hands, and with a shout, she dropped the pan on the tiled floor, causing the liquids to jump and catch onto anything that could combust, enlarging the already dramatic problem. Late as it was - near 3 am, or so - Rose had paused her dutiful study of Vikram Seth's A Suitable Boy, a one thousand page mammoth she had already conquered seven times, for a snack once she had encountered the first wedding banquet to come in the book. Such detailed descriptions of colourful food had made her stomach complain, so she set out to find a curry recipe she might attempt.

Rose let out a squeal as the flames rose higher and higher, but she found she was rooted to the spot, observing the mocking, dancing flames. They aren't as beautiful as they are described in the books, she thought wondrously.

Thrown back into her mind by a blast of hot air, Rose pressed the thick cookbook to her chest and ran outside, placing it on the ground and grabbing the nearest blanket to toss over the leaping flames. As far as I've read, this should do to put it out.

The piece of cloth was consumed in under three seconds, and Rose face was drained of colour as, for once, she did not know what to do.

The fire alarm.

She slammed her palm into the red button and ran back into her room, trying to collect as many collectors editions her arms could carry, pilling them high in stacks, and then approaching the nearest window and tossing them out. They should be safe. For now. She could just hope they would not fall on any passerby's neck.

She grabbed the remaining books and began moving out of her door when she was slammed into by some fearfull psycho, her books tumbling from her arms. Dread swept over her as she bent to her knees to collect them again, looking around for anyone that might help her. "I NEED HELP! SOMEBODY HELP ME!" She screamed, desperate, fearing for her books lives more than her own. All those characters, those plotlines, would disappear if she left them behind. No. She wouldn't abandon her best friends the will of the flames. Never.

Ugh. Quick post before I leave for school.

ELLIE SIMMONS
☢ { ᴇʟʟɪᴇ } ♛ { ғᴇᴍᴀʟᴇ } ♛ { sᴛʀᴀɪɢʜᴛ } ♛ { sɪɴɢʟᴇ } ♛ { ᴀɴɴᴏʏᴇᴅ } ☢
The blonde rolled over and forced her eyes open as a loud noise interrupted her sleep. And it wasn't anything normal either; not loud music being played, not voices shouting or a police car driving by. No, it was none of those things. As Ellie sat up she realised that, in actual fact, it was the fire alarm. Pulling a face, the girl threw the covers back and jumped out of bed, heading towards the door. People up and down the hall where exclaiming and running towards the stairs, all in various states of dress. Sighing, Ellie rolled her eyes and walked back into her room, shutting the door behind her. The digitised clock someone had bought her last christmas was poking out of her wardrobe (where she had stuffed it after she wasn't able to figure out how to stop the alarm) and she tilted her head, reading that it was three and something in the morning. "Bl**dy b*stards!" Ellie muttered, kicking her wardrobe shut and wandering back to her bed.

The girl could feel heat coming from somewhere but she wasn't sure if she could actually be bothered to go downstairs. Looking over her bed and to the large mirror she had hung up when she first moved in, Ellie ran a hand through her hair and then decided she would go out through the window. There was the ladder she kept there for stuff like sneaking out (everyone knew not to touch it) and it would better than going through the house and maybe coming across the fire. Her hair was okay (probably due to the fact she had only got home an hour ago and hadn't had much time to mess it up) and after running the brush through it several times, Ellie decided it looked good enough. Her makeup was still in place too, so that was good. The girl then checked out outfit was okay. Blue boy shorts and a baggy crop top meant she might be cold but after several years of living in Europe, Ellie knew she could handle what the Americans here thought freezing.

All good. Ellie walked over to the window and pushed it open, smiling as the breeze washed across her bare, smooth stomach and rushed fresh air into the room. She climbed onto the ledge and then turned, dropping so she was only holding on with her hands, her feet searching for the rough rungs of the ladder. Brushing it, she moved her foot to the left and found it. The girl set her weight down and smiled, glad she had got there. The risk of falling didn't bother her because if she died no one would bother with a funeral and some might even just leave her there; meaning her decomposing body would be able to scare future generations of college students to come. After rolling her eyes at herself, Ellie moved her hands so they rested on the outjutting bricks below the window. Lower down she could now reach the third rungs down. A moment later she was climbing swiftly down the ladder, jumping when she was several feet off the ground. As she reached the floor, she heard shouts of 'help!' coming from inside the building.

      "
None of your business." Someone inside would help the needing person and now she was out, Ellie definitely wasn't going back in. She'd never liked saunas, and she was sure inside would be like one pretty soon. The girl turned and walked around the side of the building, her bare feet silent on the tarmacced path. She watched her feet as she walked, admiring the nail polish adoring her toe nails (and nails); a purple so dark it was almost black. Reaching the front of the house, she looked up and saw that the majority of the flames seemed to be spreading from the kitchen. The others standing in front of the apartment house caught her attention and she smirked as she spotted M&M (or whatever his name was) standing and shivering. Ellie walked over and stood next to the boys, making sure she was closer to James than M&M and making sure that if she turned, her shoulder was able to brush James'. "S'up d*ckh*eads, oh, and James," She sent a sickly sweet smile and the bulky boy and then turned her eyes to the blonde one. "So...looking fine this morning." Sarcasm sweeping her words towards him. It wasn't necessarily real sarcasm though. He did look quite okay.
sarcasm is hard with ellie, seriously...i need to work out this character. i'm going to go and figure her out }}

this is for will but I'm too lazy to make it pretty for now

will considered himself in the full length mirror with a critical frown, then clicked his tongue at the defined forehead wrinkle.

This is what happens when you stress, he chastised himself. You get all your pores all clogged up and gross and then you wrinkle prematurely. Will squirmed internally before bustling into the bathroom and washing his face or maybe the third or sixth time that day. Sometimes it blended together.

Sashaying a little just for the hell of it, Will pranced back into the room and looked at his clothing choice for the day. Well, it would have to do. He whipped back the scarf around his neck with a flourish before strutting right out the door with his nose in the air. Fierce like Rihanna, sexy like Brittany, fabulous like Gaga. That was his motto.

"Hey guys," Will waved cheerily at the small crowd in front of the apartment. "What are all of you doing in this chilly weather?"

wow I suck okay bye.

m&m
""Stay frosty." (Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare)[/i]

Martin failed his spot check, and didn't see his room-mate until he was right beside him. The poise that James had in almost all situations had not abandoned him for a mere fire-alarm, no. I had thought the one thing that might have been good about this whole mess would be if James actually looked surprised or upset for once. "Oh yes, the autumn air is chilly, but pleasant." He snapped sarcastically, and crossed his arms, tucking his chilly hands under his armpits. Fortunately, his hefty body type had enough, all right, fat on it to keep him from freezing to death.

Smoke was drifting out of a window a few stories up in the apartment building, twisting in the moonlight into a plume of grayish white like some sort of wraith. M&M hoped that everyone had gotten out safely - hadn't there been someone shouting for help as he ran out? He had been so worried he'd hardly registered the cry. "Has anyone called the fire-department?" he asked. "I suppose the manager would have done that, but where's the engine?"

Ah, it seemed that the Princess had arrived. "Aww, am I d*ckh**d to you, Ellie? You're so sweet." Despite Ellie's rather-unaffectionate nicknames for M&M, Martin still thought she was Da Bomb. She was like one of those video-game girls who could keep up with the guys, insult the big boss, do back-flips in high heels (okay, maybe that was in his imagination) and always ends up with the hero at the end.

Except that, in Real Life (not Second Life), Martin was definitely not the hero. He was more the funny sidekick to the hero... who would probably be James in this case. His mind shied away from that, and he hastily corrected himself. No, I'm more like the a miscellaneous character who has Link come in and smash all their pots, or the dudes who get their cars stolen in GTA, or one of the Zombie hoard in any of a number of video games with 'Dead' in the title.
