m&m
"I”m a gamer because I don't have a life – I've chosen to have many."
A horrible blare of noise ripped through the apartment building. It roused people from a dead sleep, made insomniacs jump to their feet and startled cats out of their fur. The building filled with shouting, barely possible to hear over the clamorous scream of the... fire alarm?
Martin woke with a violent start, rolling off his bed to the floor with a huge thud. " Horde!" he screamed, scrabbling to his hands and knees. "James! The horde... is." He stopped, and pushed himself up to his feet. "Attacking?" he mumbled.
No, wait. He managed to get his mind up to something of the right speed.
Fire alarm. He blinked in the suddenly bright light. "Fire!" There was a reddish glow in his room too. With another yell, he grabbed his pillow, whirled around and tired to smother... the alarm clock?
He clicked on the light, and removed the pillow. The brilliant red numbers had looked, to his sleepy brain, like... he groaned and stumbled out of bed, yelling. "James!" He pulled on a pair of probably clean sweat-pants on over his boxers and yelled again "Fire!" The alarm was still on, preventing him from thinking clearly. He heard a
muffled sound from outside his room, probably James yelling something like
Do you really think I don't know?.
He opened the door out of his room and ran into the hallway,
bumping into someone outside his door. He apologized, and hurried on without waiting for a response. Down one hallway, one flight of spiral stairs, and he was outside the building in the brisk autumn air.
Brisk, my butt. He shivered as the cold wind whistled past him, and shoved his hands into his armpits to keep them warm. Real bright, M&M, he thought. Don't bring your coat during a fire-alarm evacuation. I'm going to freeze. There was a crowd of people on the pavement outside the apartment, chattering nervously about the possible fire. "It was most likely a false-alarm," he heard
someone behind him say, and he nodded absent-mindedly, scanning the crowd for his roommate, James.
Okay, you all can post now! It's short-ish, because I have to leave for class really soon, and didn't feel like adding a lot of extraneous details. The dark green bits are places where other characters (as of yet unnamed) are involved.
