And on the topic of Derp, I am a derp, not disabled. Disabled means physically or mentally unable to do certain things. Derp just means clumsy or forgetful.

Derp does not mean clumsy. That is just a fake definition covering the true hurtful meaning of the word. Derp is often used to mean retarded or stupid, and thus offending people with that eye disability or just any disability in general. I really dislike the name Derpy Hooves, and I'd rather use something like 'Clumsy' Hooves. I mean bronies said she was clumsy, right? So, I'd actually use a word that actually means clumsy.

I'm sorry, but Hasbro JUST got over a fight about this. Derp is not an offensive word, it is a word you use when you mess up. If I were to trip, my friend would say derp. Disability means disability, derp does not.

I have a question. Why is princess cadence named after MUSIC TERMS but her special talent is spreading love :\ look:

cadence: A sequence of chords that brings an end to a phrase, either in the middle or the end of a composition.

Cadenza: Initially an improvised cadence by a soloist; later becoming an elaborate and written out passage in an aria or concerto, featuring the skills of an instrumentalist or vocalist. OR Originally an improvised cadence by a soloist. Later it became a written out passage to display performance skills of an instrumentalist or performer.

She makes fun of handicapped children.

The word "Derp" Is made by Two guys acting like handicapped kids. I have a handicapped brother. This character offends me, and being om A CHILDRENS SHOW makes it worse. I almost started hating the show because of it.

Okay, look. You're looking at this all wrong. Derpy may be a little retarded and slow and yes, sometimes stupid at times, so yeah; she's handicapped. How can she make fun of handicapped people, when she's handicapped herself? Your sentence really makes no sense. How in the world did you think she made fun of people? How? I just don't understand.

EDIT: Actually, Derpy just means clumsy. I'm derpy. Trust me. I trip going up stairs. X)
EDIT 2: Some people are telling me Derpy means stupid; others are just saying clumsy. But that's beside the point. How is Derpy offending to retarded people? I still don't understand where you're coming from.
EDIT 3: When you think about it, this is why Hasbro changed her voice. People who didn't know enough about the character just had an uproar about it, and Hasbro changed her voice. I liked her old voice better; but now it's just this stupid-sounding voice. The original was better, in my opinion.
Anyway, Derpy may be a little clumsy at times; but I still love her. My sister thinks she's retarded; but I don't care if she is or not! I will love her character, even if she's retarded. If she's not retarded, then that's fine too. But if she is, I won't stop loving her any less.
Do you know how Derpy started out? Just as an animation error. It was the fans that gave her the name Derpy; not Hasbro. Hasbro eventually agreed with the fans and named her Derpy, but that wasn't their original plan, as she was just an animation error. But the fans loved her so much that Hasbro decided to give her that one speaking role; and then they had to change it because people were having "problems" with the character. Derpy, as a character, is not insulting to anypony. She's clumsy, and sometimes doesn't think things through; but we all can be like that. That's not being mentally retarded; it's just being a klutz.

I've seen Scootaloo and Rainbow Dash's names put together to form a sister-ship thingy (I don't know why though XD) I just thought that RaibowRoo... umm.. huh. Now that I think about it.. Scootaloo doesn't have 'roo' at the end, it has 'loo'. Well there's now way I'm calling it Rainbow Lou/Lu/Loo whatever. Umm I guess it was sort of a mix of the scooter-roo (My 3 year old brother calls her that) and Rainbow Dash and..yeah. *facehoof*

Rarity's reaction to camping was priceless. Her face was absolutely hilarious. That two-story pop-up tent was pretty awesome; I'd love to own one.

I love Derpyhooves. I think she is one of the most fun and innocent back-ground ponies. I just...love her.

My personal hypothesis is that she was named because of her beautiful singing voice. And maybe her parents had musical names, and they decided to name her after a music term?
Real cadenzas in music are simply beautiful. I've heard them sung and played on the piano; when done correctly, there are no words to describe such beauty.
Maybe she was named that because her parents thought she was beautiful?
Also....who ARE her parents? Do we even know ANYTHING about Cadance's family?

There is no official definition for the word derp, but it is not commonly used as a term for people with disabilities. And, the word was first found in mainstream media in South Park when "Mr. Derp" made a guest appearance. He was not mentally or physically challenged, he would simply cry out "Derp!" after hitting himself in the head with a hammer.
If I saw a crippled man I would not call it a "derp"- if my friend hiccuped when she was laughing and made a funny face, I would call that a "derp".
