I'm personally confused on how Twilight never noticed the amulet on Trixie during the battle.

I think I'll attempt an MLP/Pokémon fanfic. How should I do it?

The characters from the show as ponies,
Or the ponies becoming the Pokémon?

Random thing about the Crystal Empire:
I kept seeing this tent in the background that had the same star pattern as Trixie's hat and cape. And it was blue, just like her. I kept waiting for her to pop out of there, but...she didn't.
Maybe she stayed in the Crystal Empire while she was looking for the amulet? X)

My opinion on the newest episode, "Magic Duel", can be found below. It is posted in tiny print for those who have not yet seen the episode.
Also, I thought I'd say that this is the first episode that I've EVER watched on time. Meaning, um, in the past, my DVR recorded all the episodes, and I'd watch them when I had time. Today, I watched the episode a couple hours after it first aired, so this was the first time I'd ever watched a MLP episode the day it aired. :) I'm so HAPPY!
Magic Duel
From the beginning I was thinking that something gave Trixie that power. Was it Sombra? No. And I doubted it was him from the beginning. I knew it couldn't be Discord, or Chrysalis, or Night Mare Moon. It didn't have anything to do with any of the villains; that much I figured out. When the shopkeeper stated that it was an Alicorn Amulet, I didn't have a clue what he was talking about. During a commercial break, I contemplated the idea that if Twilight got her hands on that thing, she might turn into an Alicorn; just like everyone had been hoping. And, it would fulfill my desires to see her become one, but not become one permanently. I was disappointed that my idea didn't end up happening. :(
Trixie's magic in this episode was red. To the best of my knowledge, red magic has never been used in the show. This confirmed my suspicions that none of the previous antagonists or villains had anything to do with the amulet. It must've been from somewhere else.
Not only did Trixie completely ruin Rarity's dress and wack-out Snips, Snails, and Rainbow; she also took Pinkie's mouth! She's not just a brute and a bully; she's downright evil!
Saddle Arabia? X) Awesome. I just wish those horses had actually talked, and that we'd have seen WAY more about them than we did. They reminded me of the 2nd. Gen MLP toys; anyone else notice that?
Oh, Fluttershy. Your quiet timid and quiet ways didn't help anypony in this episode, did they? :( But that's okay. I got a laugh out of everypony finding out the information after Fluttershy had. And her whole biting hooves scene. That was brilliantly funny.
The Alicorn Amulet corrupts the user; hm....yes, that would make sense. Trixie was being a brat before, but then she changed into being downright evil. The amulet would explain these turn of events.
Twilight's training with Zecora was cool. I'm so glad she's back in the third season so early! :) Her making Parasprites appear was just awesome. And making puddles of water float? AWESOME. I can't get over how she did that awesome magic.
Zecora can do magic without a horn?! That's just plain awesome. I want to see more episodes with Zecora's magic/potion brewing stuff. I REALLY DO.
I really REALLY hate how the episode ended. C'mon, Hasbro. You expect an antagonist as mean and bullying as Trixie to apologize for really no reason at all?! She just apologizes because Twilight out magic-tricked her!? URGH. Honestly, think of this logically for a moment. Trixie had just run off the last time Twilight used her magic against her. She didn't apologize, and she really didn't care. In this episode, she apologizes, even though last time she didn't?! Why would she apologize this time, even though Twilight still out magic-tricked her?! Twilight beat her in a similar way as she did the first time; why would Trixie's reaction be any different than it was before? It was an unoriginal, predictable, and stupid last five minutes. X( A better ending would have been that Trixie went back to her normal self, and Twilight accepted that not everypony will be nice; some ponies will just be mean to you and play tricks on you, and you just have to accept that and not try to change or fight them, unless they do something to hurt your friends or family. I would still have had Twilight win as she did, and for Trixie to stay in Ponyville; but I would have had the ending be a bit different. Though hearing an apology out of Trixie was sweet and nice for her to do, it kind of ruined my opinion of her. Now I think she's a bit wishy-washy. I dunno. Still don't like her, but I think I dislike her more than before. She could grow on me, if she's in any other episodes, but it just seems so unlikely that I'd ever like her.
I honestly didn't want to forgive her. :( But I did anyway.
But she got off WAY too easy, with all of her dictatorship and such. I felt SO BAD for Snips and Snails; and I've hated them since the first episode they aired in.
As for Twilight using her friends to help....everyone seems to be having a hard time dealing with this. I would have liked to see Twilight use her REAL magic, but that wasn't possible in this instance. Using the Alicorn Amulet, Trixie would've just out-magicked her. That clearly was not an option. Now, if she'd disarmed Trixie, then she definitely would've stood a better chance. But that didn't happen. Trixie had the amulet for as long as possible, and thus Twilight couldn't hope to defeat Trixie with her magic. I'm fine with the whole thing of her using her friends instead of magic. Think of it this way: Twilight was simply giving Trixie a dose of her own medicine. :)
I loved the last part, in the beginning of the credits. :) Pinkie finally got her mouth back. And, right as she's about to say something....
Credits.
I cracked up laughing.

Also...The Great and Powerful Trixie has faceplanted. And tripped. X)

I have watched and very much enjoy Star Wars. I didn't see any hints about anything even related to that in this episode, except for maybe that one part where Twilight's levitating over the lake.

Because of the whole Trixie getting off easy thing, I'd probably rate this episode 3.5 out of 5 stars. Excluding Trixie, it gets 4.5 stars.

I did like this episode, but I was expecting more. :(

:Night Fury: wrote:I'm working on three different fanfictions right now.

Unexpected Connections: Babs returns to Ponyville a month after her last visit, still guilty after bullying her cousin and friends and decides to apologize properly by spending a couple weeks there. She witnesses Twist being bullied and stands up for her, getting bullied with more menace than what she expected. Apple Bloom, Babs and Twist looking sad organizes a sleepover and they share stories. Babs and Twist find friendship and connections through telling stories of past bullying experiences and they let it blossom, ending with Twist joining the Crusaders.
This story will contain the shipping of Twist and Snails and will revolve around the Crusaders, mostly on a Babs Seed and Twist friendship. Will be shown from Twist's point of view and Babs's point of view.

Surprise: Surprise never got any recognition. She trained hard, performed amazing feats and worked harder than anypony to make herself known, but she is still thrown into the shadows of Spitfire and Soarin'. When Fleetfoot quits, things escalate to a dangerous point. When she and her fellow Wonderbolts are injured during a sabotaged show, she sets out to find the culprit. Her only clue being that Spitfire and Soarin' weren't injured. As she searches for who did this to her and her friends, she is in a race against time to find the culprit before they slip through her hooves.
I was looking at the list of Wonderbolts and saw that Surprise was one of them, so I based the idea around her never getting any recognition. This will contain heavy shipping with Spitfire and Soarin' and will be seen from the culprit's point of view, Surprise's point of view and Spitfire and Soarin's point of view.

Quicksilver: After being defeated by the Elements of Harmony, Nightmare Moon awakens in an endless black dimension. As she travels the obsidian world, she discovers she can create laws and structures from her will and magic. As she constructs a world from liquid silver and even silver ponies, she begins to wonder. She has everything her heart has ever desired, eternal night, no Princess Celestia and subjects who are loyal to her and hang off every word she speaks. But is she really happy?
This story light shipping but mostly just a strong friendship between Nightmare and an alicorn stallion she created and will be from their points of view.

I would read them all! :) I think I like the Nightmare Moon and the Babs Seed ones more than the other one, though.

Colgate is the fan name for Minuette. So, of course they'd look like twins. They're the same pony. :)

Trixie the Ultimate wrote:I really hope Trixie comes back for another episode! I love Trixie, and I don't see why people hate her so much. After all, being a one pony magic show, showing off her skills is part of what she does. I think that Twilight was kind of being mean to her, because after all, her showing Trixie that she was better at magic was pretty much just doing the same thing as Trixie was doing to her- showing off. And it pretty much ruined her life. Also I was quite disappointed to find out that the Trixie's amulet had nothing to do with Sombra...

REALLY? *is completely dumbfounded*
Did you pay attention to how Trixie completely made everyone in Ponyville her slaves? How she ran a dictatorship over them? Twilight had every right to come and rescue them! Even the ponies commented on how they wished Trixie would go away. Twilight stepped in and saved them!
She was not showing off. She was protecting her friends, family, and home.
And Twilight didn't even use magic. She used her friends to help her win. That was the whole point. Twilight's not the best unicorn at magic, even though that's her element of harmony. It proved that Twi's not a mary-sue character!
And, as for the ruining her life....how? Trixie could've gone into another profession - though it's not likely. Having everypony make fun of her taught her a lesson: don't brag about how good you are when you're not really that good, it may come back to haunt you.

Daring Do wrote:I liked the new episode, I guess. At first I was like, FRIKKIN' TRIXIE GO DIE IN A PIT.
But then my fannon-creating instincts awoke! Now, we all are lamenting over how Sombra didn't show and all that crud, but isn't that how Sombra became evil? I think it is. Maybe, just maybe, he used it once, a million years ago. He used it too much. And he became evil. One day, he took it off (Somehow, maybe because it was making his neck sore?) and none of the magical and evil effects wore off.
SO he continued treating crystal ponies as slaves. Then Luna and Celestia got tired of this crap and went down and turned him into a shadow. Then the rest happened in S03 E03.
After that, that stallion unicorn with the (Boss) monocle and the braid found the amulet and recognized it. He put it into his little shop of curios. Then, a long time later, Trixie appeared in his shop and bribed him for the priceless (Apparently not anymore) artifact.

Now this is an amazing idea. :)

A ponysona or any sona is meant to represent you, It you think you as a pony would be an alicorn then go for it! They don't have to be realated to the princess or anything. So what if its not very realistic, Its not realistic for *spoiler* Zecora to have magic either is it? An OC is original so it may be original to have an alicorn if you think about it. I don't like it when you have a ton of alicorns but thats just me, I have 2 alicorns at this point in my charrie hoard.

Has anyone heard the colt version of This Day Aria? What's your all's favorite gender-swap songs?

I'm not a huge fan of gender-swap songs from the show. I like genderswap originals since a lot of them are originally sung by men and covered by women. My favorites are the female version of Eurobeat Brony's Luna and the female version of The Moon Rises by Ponyphonic.

I don't really like gender-swap songs either. They're very unoriginal, and most are done in a horrible way with men who can't even sing.
For the This Day Aria, well, my opinion stands. The men who sing the song are off on too many notes for me to listen to it without cringing. Sorry.
But I do like RD's suggestions. :) They're pretty neat.

Rainbow Dash wrote:Spoilers and harsh opinions lurk below.
This episode was meh for me. I know the Trixie fanboys are beside themselves because OMGTRIXIE but she's such a boring and unlikeable character. I really think the only reason she came back was because of the fanboys, otherwise she would've just gone down in the books as a villain they needed to make an example out of. As usual, I will blame EQD's creepy obsession with Trixie for this episode. And I will continue to do so.
The one good thing about this episode was more Zecora. Because that zebra does not get enough attention. Apparently Zebras can do magic without horns so that kinda adds more to what we know about them. Coolness.
The ending when Trixie was asking for forgiveness I went "oh heck no" because I thought they were gonna pull a Trixie fanboy fanfic ending when Trixie changes her ways and becomes nice 5ever. Thankfully, they didn't drop the ball and go with a fanfic-ish ending and they kept her egotistical personality, even after she was forgiven.
Overall, I didn't like it all too much. I'd watch it again, but it's not a favorite. I think that this episode was blatant fanservice and had a loose lesson on friendship at best. The lesson was a copout "you can do anything with your friends" and it felt stuck on like the animators went "oh right, we need a lesson."

I agree with the whole Zecora thing. :)

I must say, I'm somehow disappointed. I was so freaking excited for this episode, and seeing Twilight's magical abilities grow, and even though I wouldn't have expected her to get on Alicorn level, the fact that she was cheating during the whole performanec was... wyeah, disappointing.
I don't really like seeing Twi play dirty =/

What I liked, however, was the Star Wars reference scene :D
Master Yoda now Zecora is?
Oh, and Im wondering - if the Necklace allows ponies to gain the abilities of Alicorns... do Alicorns need them, too? Celestia and Luna are wearing theirs all the time. Would they be able to perform their sun/moon raising spells and stuff without them as well?
Do the necklaces MAKE alicorns/ are part of that?

All in all... I liked some minor aspects of this episode, but the ending was, at least to me, disappointing in a way.
I hoped for more development.

At least we got an apology from Trixie. That was kinda cute. And made up for the harsh ending of Boast Busters.
Sad that she went so soon, though .-.

Guys don't talk about LPS. This isn't the LPS club after all x3

Ehhh. I'm not sure what I think about the new episode. I feel like they left out a lot of important details about the little things. Why would such a powerful amulet only be put in hiding? Why not give it to Princess Celestia? Why didn't Twilight go to Cadance or Luna or some other form of royalty about Trixie? Why wasn't there a lesson? How come Trixie didn't learn anything? How come she ran away again?

I also felt like Trixie got off to easily. Sure she apologized which was great but that still doesn't really make up for all the emotional and physical damage she caused on everyone. I mean, she took over their town and turned them into slaves and all she gave was an "I'm sorry"? If that happened to me I'd be all "Get out of here and never come back."

Wh-where those horses from Saddle Arabia? HORSES? IN MLP? MADNESS I TELL YOU.

I don't know I thought it was a really cool episode, it just had a lot of plot holes.

I agree. They did leave out some important details. I kept wondering why Twilight didn't even tell Princess Celestia about the whole Trixie fiasco. Why didn't she? Celestia was RIGHT THERE, in the same part of Ponyville! I kept waiting for Twilight to go over to her and explain what had happened, and what she'd learned. But she didn't. :(

I agree completely. Trixie got off WAY too easily.

Twilight Sparkle wrote:
Okay, here are my thoughts on the episode.
I loved Twi's character in this episode. I loved it. She refused to fight Trixie at the beginning, and told her to stop instead of fighting back. She only agreed to the duel to protect her friends and to stand up to them, which I think really says a lot about her character. But she didn't win the duel, which also says a lot. I'm happy that they're fixing the fact that she had some mary-sue qualities, and in this episode you see she can't do all types of magic.
When Twi was thrown out of Ponyville by Trixie's magic, I felt like we had a missed oppertunity for Twi to have some great character developement. If she had told her friends she lost fair and square, I feel as if it would have been better for Twi's character. Instead, we did get a moment when they spoke through the glass, where Twi said she would go {Any other Whovians feel pangs of sadness because of Doomsday?}, but I feel as if that scene of her leaving could have been better played out.
When she went to Zecora I was really happy, and although I don't get Star Wars, I loved seeing Zecora and the realtionship between her and Twi. These scenes were further proof Zecora is just a boss. {Uh hello, did you see her nifty magic?} She played such a great character in this episode, and her whole lecture on focus actually reminded me of Master Shifu in Kung Fu Panda. Speaking of that scene, I enjoyed Twilight breaking down in the water because of the almost bullying, I would call it, that she recieved from Trixie. It was a defining character trait for her, and it gave her a character flaw that we haven't really seen before- she's affected by bullying when people tell her she's a failure. That really got to me.
I loved Fluttershy in this episode, especially her lines as the animals drag her away into the forest. She talks about wanting to hide in her closet with her teddy bear, and I just loved that. It was really sweet and she was very much in character this episode, which I enjoyed. Also, the nail biting gag was a nice little comic relief at the beginning.
The way the problem of the amulet being solved was handled was actually something I really enjoyed. I knew Twi's amulet was going to be a dud, but I did suspect that Twi was going to have her friends pose as each other. Look, I think we can agree that it would have been awesome if Twi could have done the magic, but it would have made her a mary-sue. Instead, she and Zecora used their smarts to solve the problem different, and proving, that Twi can't do all types of magic, which makes her not a mary sue. Here in this episode we get to see that Twi's magic isn't perfect, and sometimes she has to rethink her problems because of this. This, I loved.
What I did not enjoy about this episode was Trixie. While Twi, Zecora and Fluttershy really shined in this episode, Trixie was the stuck up little brat she normally is. And don't come crying to me that she 'was possesed, it isn't her fault.' That's crap. The intro into the episode clearly showed she was full of rage and just wanted to harm Twi in anyway possible and take away everything she cared about. Trixie obviously understood what the amulet was and what it would do, and bribed the store owner to give it to her. She isn't innocent, and she knew what she was doing. Maybe she didn't mean to go so far, but she set out to hurt Twi. And for what? Revenge that wasn't even deserved. Twi didn't meant to humliate Trixie, she was protecting her town. If you watch Boast Busters again you'll see it was never about showing up Trixie, as she had self confidence issues and only acted when her friends were in danger. Trixie, while the rudeness she got afterwards wasn't really deserved, wasn't Twi's fault. It was the other ponies in the cities. And really, what it all stems down to, is that it was Trixie's fault for bragging so much.
In this episode Trixie bullied, abused and turned characters into her slaves. She changed their bodies, physically abused them (she whipped Snips and Snails, remember?) and emotionally abused them too by being so mean. She created a dictatorship, and while she may have been under the influence, remember, she knew what she was getting into. Trixie was a butt awful, terrible character who only looked out for herself and was hardset on revenge.
In the end, Trixie apologized to Twi. I was not pleased. After everything she's done she gets away with just an apology? Really? After abuse that's what she gets away on? Ridiculous. Blaming it all on the amulet was not only innaccurate, but a bad choice. Trixie should have learned her lesson the hard way, not by being kicked out, but by being forced to do community service or the like. Or she should have been left up to the mercy of Celestia. The handling of the episode was not done well in this sense. Besides, what message does it teach kids? "If you do something bad, claim that something influenced you and you won't get in trouble." No. Just, no.
This episode had buckets of shipping fuel. Buckets and buckets full. I don't ship any of the mane six, but for all of you who do, enjoy lots of Rarijack, Rainbow Shy, TwiDash, SpikexFluttershy, Twishy and SpikexTwi. You can read a lot of things into this episode if you're a hard core shipper. Rarijack was in there a lot, I noticed, though, and it makes me wonder why the writers seem to be angling this way. We've been getting a lot of it this season.
All in all, I enjoyed certain characters in the episode, but the ending with Trixie saying she was sorry was terrible and wasn't handled well. I would rate it a 3.5/5 stars because of Trixie and the ending. Based on the characterization of everyone but Trixie, I would give it a 4.25/5 stars.

Twilight, I love your posts. They're always so in-depth and really awesome to read. I love reading them! :)

Did anypony else notice Derpy in the new episode? :3

No, I didn't. But I've only watched the episode once. :) Where was she?

She was in the crowd on the right when Twilight was preforming, next to Sea Swirl. ^-^

Hello! My name is CutTheDragon! My favorite character is Pinkie Pie all the way! I also like Photo Finish, Octavia, Vinyl Scratch, Sweetie Belle, Discord, and Surprise. I enjoy doing/looking at MLP art, comics, fan-fictions, videos, music, drawing tutorials, but mainly artsy stuff that's appropriate. I have pony merchandise, but only the mane six, Lyra, Big Mac, and Glow Pinkie collectible figures, though I do love to draw the mane six and others here and there. I've been watching the threads for a while, but I finally decided I would join!
I'm not really active here anymore. Please don't ask for my pets or OCs!
