meet cressida.

You enter a small cove hidden within jagged rocks, fixing your view among the various objects and scenery flowing around you. It appears to have a lot of miscellaneous items, similarly scattered around as if thrown into the cave and forgotten. A plumerian stands at the edge of a rock, looking at her reflection in the water.

Hi there, all! This is my thread for plumerian #224, since I hit the word

my already-existing form, which means no information here will be
repeated, so please read it all! ^^

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Cressida's Opinion on Herself ;
"Like anyone else, I have my faults, flaws, and positives, even. However, my true opinion on myself? I think I should be a lot of things, change the way I do certain things. . but me, myself? I'd never have the courage to do them, face-to-face. People constantly ask me questions on why I do such complicated things when the answer is simple. . but really, the amount of courage I have is the likeliness of snow in the summertime, basically: little to none.

I honestly wish I could change, I do. But everything I do is subconscious, and I really wish it could stop. I wish I could stop being jealous, protective of myself, selfish and unattached to everyone. I constantly pull myself away from crowds when something I don't like happens, and it really hurts my relationships with others. I can't seem to form them at all. My positives? I'm not quite too sure. They're not constant, as they're often back and forth. I suppose they only show when you get to know me, but I suppose my appreciative nature is something positive, but nothing to brag about. On the inside, I'm actually quite modest, despite my arrogant front. Other than that, I believe my fears, although not many, are something that incline me to stray away from my passions. This may seem frequent with plumerians, however, as much as I want to become a scuba diver, the training would be excruciating, and. . I simply can't overcome my fear. I wish I honestly could, but I believe I just have to mask and cover it up until it's an illusion it's no longer there anymore.

My overall opinion on myself? I wish I could change just like anyone else, remove all of my flaws from existence into making the perfect type of plumerian I'd like to be, really. But do I really want that? I don't honestly know. The idea is stupid, to want something so much but also not want it at all. Everything's created and made for a reason, a reason that nobody knows, and if you mess with it, bad things usually tend to happen regardless. On that note, I wouldn't like to change myself because of that. But yet, at the same time, removing all of these flaws from myself would make me a better, yet different person. . . .

Everything's in the eye of the beholder, right?"

⋆ ( relationships are made up of perspectives )

relationships
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
relationship status ; single
sexuality ; bisexual
pronoun preference ; feminine pronouns [she]
past crushes/dates ; N/A
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ideal friend ;
Cressida's ideal friend would be someone who could relate to her, but not necessarily be her identical twin. She'd like to have someone who knows what she's going through as well, and be open to talk about it and discuss it openly. However, since that'd be quite hard - Cressida will settle for anyone who is nice enough to hang around with her.
current best friend: Cynthia x
------
ideal acquaintance ;
Cressida's ideal acquaintance? Pretty much anyone who would remotely get along with her, can withstand being around her, and someone that's she's met before. It's quite easy to become her acquaintance, however, Cressida believes that acquaintances don't really mean anything to her, so it's not recommended you aim for becoming something as simple and petty as an acquaintance for Cressida. Cynthia and Cressida also live together in the same flat, both sharing the rent. They have their regular qualms with each other, yet despite having these worries and fights like normal friends would, they still have eachothers' backs no matter what.
------
ideal enemy ;
It's actually quite hard for anyone to become Cressida's enemy depending on the plumerian. If you're looking for trouble, well, Cressida will definitely [attempt, despite her inconsistency of whether or not she can decide to hold grudges longer than a few minutes] to give it to you. However, this does not make you her enemy even if it seems like one to Cressida. She has a bad habit of not holding grudges, even though she intends to, so she usually forgives people sooner or later and everything's okay. This, however, does not make it impossible to be on Cressida's bad side.

relations and thoughts on each individual ;
Cynthia x, owned by me -- Cynthia is a very close relation for Cressida, and she considers her to be her best friend. It's odd, since their personalities are nearly opposite, however Cressida was immediately drawn to Cynthia's behaviour and straight-forwardness. They share a flat together and don't mind it at all, and are also quite happy they live together. Often, Cynthia has Cressida's back and vice versa - they make the perfect pair for a lot of things.

Zitao x, owned by plant queen ✿ -- Cressida often appreciates all of the positive things coming from Zitao. As she isn't one herself, she loves hanging around with him because he's such an optimist, unlike her. It gives her a sense of small accomplishment to herself, and knowing that he's there for her really is something she can count on.

Bluebelle x, owned by mai-mai-mari -- Cressida is slightly jealous of Bluebelle, however, she's also quite happy for her that she's so successful. Often, Cressida would visit her glass-bottom boat, and they'd go among adventures together as they both really like the study of underwater marine life. Cressida would love to one day scuba dive with her, but she hasn't gathered the courage yet to do it, although it seems a lot of fun. She enjoys going to art galleries with Bluebelle, for their love of creativity shows together.

⋆ ( the sea is my home, can you feel it? )

Cressida's Opinion on the Sea ;
---------------------------------------------------------------------

The watery shores dancing at her feet, barely ashore
Deciding whether or not to advance
What she considers "treasure", littered among the seafloor
Waiting to be collected the following day;
Climbing the sandy floor, escalating enough to soar
Lapsing time until the next day.

[ poem by me ]

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Cressida absolutely loves the sea, as you know already. However, Cressida does have multiple and various reasons as to why she loves the watery deep. For one, it feels like you're almost weightless. If done correctly, you could float timelessly on your back and stare up at the sky for eternity. You can do headstands in the water, you could float without moving a single muscle seemingly. It's a way to prevent stress for Cressida, because even if you're in the city, being in the water feels like your miles away. She likes the emptiness of it, but how filled it seems at the same time. Often, when traveling, Cressida will write down various things in her journal. It's an old, leather-strapped book in which she has had ever since she was young. There, she will write the beach she had went to, and any other obvious information. The cool thing about it is that Cressida will also write down various things she found there, what shade of blue the water was, as well as any interesting specimen she had found. For the sake of her memory, she also loves taking pictures and pasting them onto the pages of the scrapbook, but due to some incidents where she has ripped the page due to putting too much glue, she's been quite careful with that now.

The second reason why Cressida loves the sea so much is the animals and species that live in it. There's so many undiscovered species down in the depths, and it's quite interesting for such a curious plumerian like Cressida to love it. Even with the discovered species in the ocean, it's to be considered the species found there are quite interesting, especially to Cressida!

⋆ ( quirks & flaws )

quirks ;
- one of Cressida's largest, more noticeable quirks is her morning routine. when she first wakes up, she gets herself ready [of course] and goes out for a 15 minute run around her neighbourhood. this makes her feel free, and of course, helps her wake up and get started for the day to come.

- Cressida will only drink water with icecubes in it -- she doesn't know why, but she loves having that little extra spur of coldness with added icecubes to her drink.

- when painting, Cressida hates to have paint on her paws, especially acrylic. however, due to her messy nature, Cressida makes sure she won't make a mess on herself by wearing something to cover her paws.

- if Cressida's listening to music, she'll most likely be humming to it, or whistling quite loud to the tune of it. this can be annoying for others, however, Cressida loves trying to match the tune of her whistling to the tune of the song, almost like a game.

story I - the garage sale
______________________________________________________________
Cressida was out for a lovely walk one sunny afternoon. Ambling slowly along the shoreline of the glimmering ocean, she looked down quite often, trying to see any trinkets she could find. Suddenly, a neon pink sign with bold black Sharpie writing caught the Plumerian's attention. The sign read, 'Garage Sale this Afternoon', with the address in smaller font underneath. 'Oh', the Plumerian thought to herself, 'I could go and find things to buy! I should really go.'

And so Cressida went to the garage sale, eager to find anything more to call her own. The signs lead her away from the shoreline, into the residential neighborhoods. Twisting and turning, religiously following the signs leading to her treasure trove of items, Cressida soon found herself staring upon one of the most beautiful sights she had ever seen. Multiple tables were set out, each filled edge to edge with incredibly wonderful loot. Cressida walked around, and stared in awe at all the trinkets and objects. A sparkly jewel here, a shimmering necklace there. She found a stunning journal, a beautiful painting.

After buying a massive amount of treasure, and a quite a few bags to lug them home, Cressida began to dash home as fast as she could, hardly able to contain her excitement. As she tried to navigate the vast residential area, Cressida quickly realized she had no idea where she even was, let alone how to get home. She walked along multiple roads, stopping and waiting at bus stops before growing impatient and wandering on. After what she could only assume to be multiple hours, Cressida stopped to sit in a phone booth, wondering what to do in this conundrum. 'Well,' she though, 'I could wait for a bus, but who knows if the bus would even get me home. I suppose I could call Cynthia, but I don't know where I am so she wouldn't be able to do anything. Maybe I should just wait and ask a passerby if they know where I am, and how to get back to the shoreline, at least. I can find my home if I know where the ocean is. Now I wait.'

For about another hour, Cressida sat in the phone booth, hoping someone would walk by. Suddenly, a gust of wind swept through the streets. A fluttering of paper sounded down the sidewalk, and a map tumbled into view. Jumping out of the phone booth, Cressida grabbed the map just as it flew past her, and took a long look at it. Finally knowing where she was and where to go, she finally started her trek home, eagerly anticipating getting home and looking again through her amazing new treasures.

story II - interaction with Cynthia and Cressida
______________________________________________________________
On quite a sunny day, two female plumerians strolled through the quite ever so docile streets of the suburbs. They had just came back from seeing a movie, one which they enjoyed to a reasonable extent. As they were walking back home, one of them had decided it'd be nice to relax at the beach. They both agreed, and began taking the route to one of the few beaches located near their homes. It wasn't a far walk from where they had started, and within minutes they arrived at their destination. Cressida was quite happy to be at the beach, however Cynthia looked overwhelmed by the amount of scenery in front of her: the water, shrubbery, sand, and the few people gathered around doing various things. She could smell the faint, nostalgic smell of marshmallows, and just to her left it appeared someone was having a bonfire. Looking towards Cressida, they decided to enter the forest, walk down the paths, and head into the water later on. By the time they finished, it'd most likely be nearly dusk, so they had plenty of time to spare.

As the two walked down the paths, they rarely talked. Most of it was gestures; pointing to various things, this and that, with no words used. Overall, by the end of it, they had enjoyed themselves. As soon as they came out of the forest, they went and swam for a short while, playing various games and having races with each other. Cressida won many of them, however, Cynthia didn't complain at all.

The sky was turning dark, so they decided to head back home to their flat. Upon walking there, they had gotten coffee and tea by a nearby coffee shop - Cressida getting her raspberry tea, and Cynthia receiving vanilla coffee, both their favorites. When they came back to their flat, they watched yet another movie together.

⋆ ( a journal on life )

Postby berceuse » Fri Aug 01, 2014 2:08 pm

    You find a leather-strapped journal, rather tattered and old. The pages seem to be in good condition as you open it up, revealing a bunch of diagrams, dates, and notes seemingly on various beaches. Next to it is a small wooden box filled with various objects which look like souvenirs from different places, bought from gift shops it seems. The handwriting on the journal is a bit sloppy - you assume this to be Cressida's - but it's still readable. You decide to read a few pages.

      June 14th, 2010 - Miami, Florida
        attached: a small cork bottle of clear water, a pouch of what appears to be sand

        - quite busy and popular
        - many bicyclists there
        - very pretty water and shores

      August 30th, 2011 - Navagio Beach, Greece
        attached: a few rocks varying in size, presumed to be limestone

        - commonly referred to as 'Shipwreck Beach' or 'Smuggler's Cove' after an alleged ship was sunk there
        - often, people will BASE (buildings, antennas, spans, earth) jump there
        - exposed cove

      July 24th, 2012 - Zlatni Rat, Europe
        attached: dried pine needles

        - otherwise referred to as the "Golden Horn" or "Golden Cape"
        - very unique as a beach
        - considered the "third most popular beach in Europe"

      June 28th, 2013 - Trunk Bay, United States - Virgin Islands
        attached: a small piece of store-bought coral

        - popular for snorkeling in it's underwater trail
        - amenities provided there
        - mainly considered popular for cruise passengers

morning - 9:30 AM - 11:00 AM
- 15 minimum minute run; sometimes longer but never shorter
- run is split up between approximately 7.5 minute intervals; she usually runs to the beach, occasionally will buy a snack if she didn't eat breakfast, and either rest or swim there
- when Cressida gets home, Cynthia's usually up [they share a flat together, however Cynthia usually rises late] and they both begin making lunch

lunch - 11:00 AM - 12:20 PM
- finishes making lunch
- sets the table
- eats lunch
- cleans up kitchen and table

after lunch - 12:25 PM - 2:00 PM

⋆ ( inspiration for her character )

Postby berceuse » Sat Aug 02, 2014 4:31 am

What was my inspiration for Cressida?
-----------
Well, I can't say I based her entirely off this character, but it was something that I used as a guideline for various inspirations for Cressida. If you think about the character enough, you can see some resemblance between them, however it ranges quite differently from the two.

Who is this character? Why, it's none other than Ariel. Seems odd, right? Most Disney characters are nothing like Cressida, but this one is different. Ariel, a child of Triton, was a stubborn and adventurous mermaid. She would often be fascinated by the silliest of everyday objects, and she'd collect them similarly to Cressida. Upon meeting Prince Eric, Ariel had fallen in love with him. This part does not resemble Cressida, as she has quite the trust issues with others and she would never fall for someone quite so easily. However, upon wanting to meet him as a human, not a mermaid, this is where Cressida is most like Ariel: their insecurities. Ariel disliked being a mermaid because Prince Eric wasn't one, and she would change it for a large price similarly to Cressida.

However, this was only a small idea of Cressida's personality. The inspiration used was quite light, and knowing that Cressida would have quite a complex personality, I made it so that you could easily relate her to Ariel; a curious, stubborn mermaid who can also be insecure, just like Cressida.

⋆ ( what she collects )

Postby berceuse » Sat Aug 02, 2014 4:51 am

What does Cressida collect?
Another small wooden box is lying around, filled to the brim with various oddities. You're not quite shocked by this, however, the things this plumerian has collected seem quite odd to you. As you look around more, you discover a few more boxes of items, which have labels neatly written on them.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
first box: moonstones
quantity? - around seven of them, sizes varying
good places to find them? - the beach, the cove

second box: bottle caps
quantity? - too many to count; presumed to be 30+ at the least
good places to find them? - off of orange cream soda yourself, or on the beach

third box: small hand mirrors
quantity? - not many, however they seem quite nice - 5 of them
good places to find them? - she buys them herself

fourth box: seashells
quantity? - way too many to count
good places to find them? - the beach, ocean, cove, souvenir shop
