It smelled like cinnamon. That was Toodle's first thought as he opened his eyes and took a deep breath, his senses blasted with flavors and colors as he took another deep breath. Flashed of red, blue, smells like wood and dirt... The first thing he realized was that he was laying down on his back. The second thing he realized was that he was realizing things. He blinked; darkness, and then light again. He was seeing. Timidly he wiggled his toes, and seeing them wiggle excited him. He was moving! Toodle slowly rose, his body trembling, his head whirling. Taking unsteady step after step, he savored the crispy crunchy feeling the dry leaves made under his paws as he stepped on them. He savored the slight breeze, and the scent of cinnamon it brought with it. He could feel his heart beating in his chest, and realizing he had a heard made it seem like it exploded, with a rush of something only to be explained as warmth . These feelings, these smells, everything. This was life. This was living! Toodle was breathing heavily, scared that each breath would be his last. And when he blinked, he tried to do so quickly, because the darkness it brought terrified him.
Sitting down, Toodle's face erupted into a huge grin. After centuries of sitting on a shelf in a small antique store, feelings nothing, only seeing what was in his vicinity, and not even really seeing, he was finally free. And not only that, but alive! He didn't know how he was alive, but he didn't care at this point. Toodle's heart seemed to flutter in his chest as he watched, really watched, a bird fly overhead, it's quick chirp trailing behind it. After Toodle's had his time reminiscing about being alive, he decided to explore and see just where he was. Walking through the forest, he grew accustomed to hearing and seeing all these amazing sights. Snails slowly crawling over rocks, leaves falling to the ground, the chatter of squirrels. One thing that tugged at him was that he had no idea where he was or what he was doing here. How had he come to be alive? And how could he find the answers to his question? Toodle didn't know, but he got a strange feeling that something was watching him, or maybe even following him. He knew for sure he didn't want to stay in this forest. Toodle walked on, being a little more careful about paying attention. Living was hard work. Weaving in and out of tree's, Toodle heard a snap of a twig. He started, and turned around, hesitant. He didn't see any danger, so it was probably a squirrel or something. Turning back around, Toodle walked away faster, and just as he was going to round a corner, BAM! Toodle jumped and sprinted through the forest. Running through a puddle of mud, he slipped and crashed into a few rocks. Stunned but not unconscious, he lpmed as fast as he could, and rounded a small clump of bushes, and was startled to run into something warm and tree-like.
"Be quiet, don't say a word, and follow me. Quickly." Toodle had no choice but to dumbly oblige, following whomever this person was. As they wove through the forest, Toodle assumed she was about 21, she had long brown hair, and was wearing jeans and a overly-large hoodie. Obviously confident, she didn't even look back to see if he was following. After about 3 minutes, a large house came into view. The girl seemed to relax, then, and waited for Toodle to catch up with her. Walking side by side, she began to speak. "You had us worried for a little bit. A Meio like you should definitley not be wandering around, not this close to Thanksgiving anyway. These hunters will shoot whatever they can get. It's ridiculous. But that's why we're here." She looked down and smiled at him. Toodle finally got the courage to talk to the human. "What do you mean, a Meio like me?" He asked, seeing nothing wrong with himself. The human looked him over, slightly confused. "You look exactly like a turkey. On Thanksgiving, humans traditionally eat turkeys for their dinner. Don't you know all this?" She asked, confused. Toodle shook his head, and looked at the approaching house grimly. He didn't know how he got here, but he was soon to find out. Now at the building, Toodle saw that it was like a wood cabin. Walking up to it, the girl opened the door in a flourish, and smiled. "Welcome to the Meios Sanctuary!"
