Ruby shook herself awake after swallowing the leaves. "Run! Get out of the fog!" She ordered, standing up. She stumbled and leaned heavily on Mon. "Hold your breath." The fog was creeping around them, trying to drag them down. Stumbling, Ruby dragged herself through the forest. She suddenly had an idea. "Mon... Can- can you climb trees?" She asked, voice slurred. "Look... The fog isn't up... there..." She indicated the tops of the trees that the fog had not yet reached.

Mon tries to hear Ruby but can't. All she hears is "Away!" She felt Ruby press against her sides. She heard her tell her to hold her breathe, so she did. Her mind cleared up a bit, but not by much. The fog was pulling away at them. She could have sworn that she felt paws or hands trying to grab her. She tried dragging her body with Ruby's until Ruby said a question. "It t'aint easy, but Ah can." She looks up and sees that there is no fog there. "Ah see. Hold on." Mon gets under Ruby and puts her on her back. With her paws, the tries to grip the bark. Taking a deep breathe, she takes a couple of paw steps up the tree. For her to be able to stay on the tree she has to take the energy from those spots and put it into her paws. After a couple of minutes, they make it safely up the tree. Mon takes a deep breathe. It took a lot out of her.

Ruby took deep breaths of the clear air. She looked down at the fog and gasped. "Mon! Look! The fog seems to be... Searching for something!" As they watched, curls of fog unfurled, grabbing at tree trunks, branches and pebbles. "It's almost like it's thinking for itself!" She shook her head. It wasn't possible.

Mon couldn't believe her eyes! Ruby was right! It swirled around the trunks of the trees, grabbing and ripping away flowers from their beds. "We'll, what do ya reckon we do?" She asked incredulously. Mon was actually scared. Stuff like this doesn't usually happen in the land of Armor! Slowly, she saw the fog growing bigger. "Ah think we should go. It's starting to grow and climb it's way up 'ere..."

Ruby looked around. There was no way out, no higher branch. "Help! Is anyone there?" She called, searching for someone out in the fog. Getting an idea, Ruby grabbed a leaf and pressed it to her muzzle. She removed it and looked at Mon. "It doesn't work well, but it might be our only way out. It filters some stuff out."

Mon looked around as well. No one was there. There wasn't even wildlife either. "Well, if we make it out of 'ere alive...then we shouldn't tell anyone. They might freak out, ya see..." She mumbled to herself. She noded to Ruby, not knowing if she heard her or not. She began scratching herself. If she was going to die she might as well give herself a good scratch. "She then saw Ruby put the leaf over her muzzle. "It'll do," said Mon. She also put a leaf over her muzzle. "That's it. We're goin' tree hopping!" She grabbed Ruby by her scruff and took off jumping between trees. They had to get out of here, so she couldn't ask Ruby if she wanted to run herself. The fog starts to kill off the trees and leaves. Mon quickly scrabbled to the edge of the forest back to the town. She doesn't stop running until she hits a water foundation. She drops Ruby, and faints from exhaustion.

Ruby saw Mon faint and crawled over to the water. She gulped some down herself and forced water into into Mon's mouth, making her swallow. Ruby splashed a bit of water onto Mon's face. "Come on, Mon. Get up! I won't forgive myself if you get hurt saving me!" She splashed Mon again and looked around for any healing plants.
