(oh my gosh! I'm soooo sorry i haven't been writing, i've been real busy with school! also my muse has been failing me...)
Dear TJ,
Ana and I are walking through the desert, it's scorching hot. My throat feels dry and my backpack feels like i'm carrying rocks. My fur burned beneath the sun, I could feel myself getting sunburned under my fur. Ana was doing better than me, since she lived in the desert, also her fur is lighter than mine. But at least where she used to live there was actually some life, lizards, hare's, some trees. Here there was nothing but scraggly bushes and rattle snakes.
I wiped the sweat from my forehead, then flicked the droplets from my hand.
Suddenly Ana grabbed my arm, "A vulture...." she whispered, her voice trembling.
I looked up to see the large bald headed bird circling above our head. I pulled out my bow and fitted an arrow into it, I held it up to my shoulder. I let the arrow fly up above my head, it hit the vulture in the chest. It let out a small cry before tumbling down to earth. Ana ran forward and caught it in her arms, dust flying up behind her.
"Yes!" she cried, turning around with a grin on her face.
I smiled, then grabbed the vulture by it's leg. Ana pointed to a large stone, about a quarter of a mile away, with a ledge jutting out to one side. The sand that lay in it's shade looked cool and peaceful. We began jogging towards it, the thought of food and shade giving us renewed energy.
When we reached the rock, we were panting and sweat was running through my fur. I sat down in the shady sand with a sigh of relief, running my hands through the sand. Ana flopped over onto the sand and let out a small cry of glee. Suddenly we were interrupted by the by the sound of rattling, similar to that of a maraca. A flash of mottled brown and tan lunged toward Ana then drew back sharply. Ana gave a sharp cry of pain and scrambled away from the creature, holding onto her arm.
"Ana!" I cried, scrambling over to her.
She let out a whimper and released her arm, exposing two bite marks.
She looked up at me with wide frightened eyes, "I've been bitten by a rattle snake...."
