What is a Scythe Wolf?

Scythe wolves are a small breed, they are about the size of a regular border collie; a male is 48-56 cm tall, a female is 46-53 cm tall. They have a very similar internal structure to normal wolves. But some parts of their bodies are different. The most significant is the tail. While normal wolves have a bushy tail, Scythe wolves have a "scythe-like" tail. The most part of the tail resembles that of a golden retrievers', but the scythe part comes in at the end of the tail. It resembles a spear tip that the indians would make. They use this as a hunting device.

Another significant difference between a normal wolf and a Scythe Wolf is their ears. Scythe wolves have completely different ears than normal wolves. They are, to put it literally, wings! But they are not strong enough to even lift a scythe wolf off the ground. The thing that they are useful for is hearing! Surprisingly, having these feather-like ears lets the Scythe wolves hear farther than any normal wolf can. They can hear things 10 miles away if they are quiet enough!

Did you notice that the back feet of the SWOs only have 2 toes? (I bet you didn't! XD) These back feet are very important for a Scythe wolf. Their back legs are very strong so that they can climb trees! The 2 toes help them grip the bark more easily.

The ridge of fur on their back isn't only there for showing off. It helps keep them warm in the winter! The fur is made out of a different fur than their coat. It collects heat from anywhere it can, stores it, and a wolf can activate it at will! If a female gives birth in the winter, this activation helps the pups stay warm. It is very helpful to the SWO's survival.

Their eyes can be any color of the rainbow, it has absolutely no significance to their survival. But the eyes and the "scythe" have a relation to each other. They are almost always the same color! It is very rare for a SWO to have different colored eyes and scythe. And it's even rarer for them to have 2 different colored eyes! And their coat colors are always natural colors, but they can have some crazy designs!

What Do Scythe Wolves do?

Their eating habits: SWO's are omnivores. They will eat any meat they can catch! Except for, of course, other wolves or predators bigger than themselves. They are able to hunt a deer as a pack, sometimes though, they can do it alone. There are certain berries that they will eat, especially blueberries and strawberries. But some fruits are poisonous to them, like pears and kiwi. So the older wolves have to teach the cubs what to eat and what not to eat.

How they hunt: Their hunting strategy is almost exactly like a normal wolf's. As a pack, the chase an animal and, leaping on it, kill it. But they kill it in their own special way. Remember the scythe on the tip of their tail? Instead of their teeth, they swing their tail around and poke the animal hard in the neck with the scythe. The scythe has a deadly poison on the tip when a scythe wolf activates it. They activate it by just thinking about it, like you would to flex your muscles.

Communication: Scythe wolves communicate just like a normal wolf would. Howling, growling, body posture, etc. But one weird thing they do; they howl the sun up. Nope, no howling at the moon; it seems they don't care about it! But SWO's believe they need to howl the sun up because if they don't, it won't rise!

Lifespan: The average lifespan of a scythe wolf is 15-20 years, like a normal wolf's in captivity. The oldest scythe wolf ever recorded was 20. She died on her birthday; the day she turned 20. So some people believe that Scythe wolves are cursed and can't live past 20 years old. Although this has not been proven, it is quite possible.

Pack Ranks: Unlike a normal wolf, all wolves in a pack are equal. There may be a leader, but everyone gets treated as an equal. Everyone has to hunt once they have learned how to, and everyone gets the amount of food that they want. There are no ranks!

Mating: Mating for scythe wolves is very different from that of normal wolves. SWO females come into heat at random times in a year; it doesn't matter what type of weather it is! Males can mate with any female; they usually have a mate but sometimes they cheat on the and have a litter with another female. A litter of pups is usually 1-2 pups, though there have been rare cases of 3.

I am one of the artists that you can go to to breed your Skythe Wolf to have up to 3 litters of up to 2 pups per litter. Before filling out a form for a breeding, please note that you must own your own SW and have permission by the owner of the other SW to breed the two before asking me to breed them. You must have proof that you have permission or I will not breed the two. Sorry, but thats how I am. ^^'

Breeding:
Breedings will be done by the artists. In the Official Topic they will post if their breeding slots are open or not. They will have specific rules for their slots, there will be payment of the artist so wishes. Any SWO owner can breed their wolf (only 3 litters of 1-2 pups.) You can breed with someone else's wolf but you both must agree on who gets the baby(s.) If there are 2 pups in the litter you can each have one . And the person who gets the pup(s) must pay the artist. And if you don't have a SWO you can arrange with 2 owners to breed their SWO's for you.

My payment will be 2 wishlist pets per pup or any rare for two pups.

To get a breeding done by me, fill out this so I know that you want me to do it. ^^
