Utpala(Water Lily) Rune-Nymphaea Stellata

Owner: Azure23
Gender: Female
Breedable: Yes
Type: Utpala(Water Lily) Rune

"The Rune of Water Lilies"

"In the surface of the pond, when you lift the water lilies above the water- underneath there will be bubbles, from the giggle of a Water Lily Rune. More commonly known as the Utpala Rune, the water lily runes have various personalities and traits depending on themselves. They enjoy basking in the sun, floating on the pond. Their skin is smooth and moist as that of an amphibians, and their wings seem to be made of the petals of a water lily. On their horns, they place a large blue water lily and that is considered a good sense of fashion. They usually come in shades of leaf green and flower blue, with large watery eyes that might cry or laugh any moment. Perhaps this little one will enjoy you as a company.

Judging for forms ends August 25th

Owner Name:
lemondropkitten
Name:
Mallow.
This time I chose a name I actually know a bit why I chose it. This Rune reminds me a bit of the swamp mallow plant. Even though she looks almost nothing like the swamp mallow, reading more about her, and seeing that she is a water lily rune, that naming her after some sort of water plant made sense. So, I went and looked up a bunch of plants that liked water, and that led me to the swamp mallow. Mallow is a name I have always quite liked, and I wanted to save it for a special character. When I saw her, and after I looked up the swamp mallow, I decided to name her Mallow. I think it fits her, and though it may not be the prettiest name ever, I think that it is pretty and nice sounding.

Gender:
Female
Personality:
Unpredictable.
Mallow is quite unpredictable. She could be happy one minute, and then sad another. She could be friendly and social one day, and then the next day shy and unsocial. Mallow, when it comes to this sort of thing, is a mystery. Why she is like, well, nobody really knows. But one thing everybody does know is that she is a very unpredictable Rune.

Mallow wrote:It was a nice, warm but not hot day, and Mallow was enjoying the weather by swimming through the water lilies on the top of the pond, which were currently in bloom and had a nice, sweet smell. She sighed happily and flapped her wings, making water droplets go flying. She didn't notice a deer approaching the pond, and so when she flapped her wings some more she splashed it with water by accident. The deer stopped stopped drinking the water and snorted, staring right at Mallow. Mallow dove under the water, and then peeked her head above the water to see the deer trotting away. Her good mood dulled, Mallow swam over to the shallower part of the pond and looked for a wild strawberry, which sometimes grew near the pond. She found one, and ate the few berries that were on it. The berries were a bit sour, but still tasty. She felt better, and then happily began to swim around again.

The next day, Mallow woke up to find it was a cloudy, dark, drizzly day, and she was sad to find that a raccoon that was hunting for crayfish in the pond had broken off one of the water lily flowers and it washed up on shore and was now dry and wilted. She sighed, finding it hard to believe how happy she was the other day. But, of course, that's what an unpredictable Rune like her is like.
Mallow was swimming around the pond when it started to rain harder. She went under the water, peeking her head above the water to take a breath of air every minute. There is really no way to tell what Mallow's mood might be the next day, but one thing is for sure. She is quite an unpredictable Rune.

Friendly and shy.
Mallow is a friendly and shy Rune. When she meets someone new, she might go right up to them and introduce herself, or she might swim to the deepest part of the pond and hide behind the water lilies. If you want to make friends with her but she's being shy, all you have to do is bring her as little basket of wild strawberries and a fish, and she's you're friend and companion for life.

Mallow wrote:Mallow was snacking on a small fish when she herd someone approaching the pond. She quickly swam behind a water lily, and just then a human appeared with something perched on her shoulder... it was a Rune Dragon! This dragon was green with golden eyes, and wore bangles and a red bandana on it's neck and a smaller one on it's tail. Mallow recognized this Rune as the Thistle Rune that lived in the woodlands and sometimes came to the pond to drink and fish for crayfish, but Mallow had never seen the human before. "What a pretty pond!" The human, Lemon, said. Sparrow chirped and flapped her wings, flying down to the pond and bent over the water to take a drink. Mallow decided to greet the Thistle Rune and Lemon. She flapped her wings and appeared from behind the water lily. Sparrow, startled, let out a loud chirp and flew back onto Lemon's shoulder, bobbing her head in alarm. "It's okay, Sparrow, it's just a... a Rune Dragon!" Lemon said excitedly, seeing that that Mallow was a Rune Dragon. "Hi, you pretty Rune." Lemon said, bending down and reaching out her hand toward Mallow as Sparrow flew into a tree and watched. Mallow butted Lemon's hand with her head, and then swam back into the water giggling.

After a little while of watching Mallow swimming around the pond, Lemon and Sparrow left and headed deeper into the woodlands. After a while, Lemon came back with a small basket full of wild strawberries and a fish. Mallow ate the food eagerly, and chirped as she flew onto Lemon's shoulder. Lemon smiled. "You're certainly a friendly Rune." Lemon said. Sparrow, who was perched on Lemon's other shoulder, was wary of Mallow and kept letting out little chirps for no apparent reason. Mallow was chirping because she was excited to have a new friend, and, after Lemon and Sparrow left, She swam around the pond happily.

A thief.
Mallow is not really a thief, but she does have a tendency to "borrow" things from people who leave their stuff by the pond. She will sneak over to the stuff while the person's back is turned, snatch whatever it is quickly in her jaws before vanishing with a giggle back into the pond. People usually never get their stuff back.

Mallow wrote:It was a nice, warm day and Lemon and Sparrow had come to the pond. For the first time, Sparrow actually didn't mind when Mallow came up to her, but flew into a tree when Mallow started to get wanting to play. While trying to get Sparrow to come down from the tree, Lemon dropped the small, shiny stones she had found in the woodlands next to the pond. Mallow, gazing at the shiny stones, quickly snatched them up in her jaws and dropped them under the patch of water grassed and such at the bottom of the pond where she kept all the things she had "borrowed" and collected. Giggling, Mallow swam back to the surface of the pond to find Lemon had finally managed to get Sparrow to come down from the tree, and was looking around for the stones. "Oh well, I can always find some more stones. Let's head back to the woodlands and look for herbs, Sparrow. See you tomorrow, Mallow." Lemon said, then smiled as Mallow jumped out of the water, flapping her wings, and then dove back into the water with a splash.

Later, at the bottom of the pond, Mallow looked over the sparkly stones. They were beautiful, and Mallow was very happy she managed to snatch them. They were pretty small, but that was okay, as most of Mallow's things she had "borrowed" and collected where quite small. She floated on her back on the surface of the pond and sighed, enjoying the relaxing sound of birdsong and chattering squirrels, and a few frogs around the pond were croaking, and Mallow thought that croaking frogs was quite a relaxing sound. She closed her eyes, and soon began to drift off to sleep.

Silly.
Mallow likes to act silly and goof off. She enjoys jumping out of the water and back in again, making a splash and, if Lemon is there, making Lemon laugh. She also loves to be silly and splash Sparrow with water, which can make Sparrow quite annoyed. She also likes to leap out of the water suddenly if someone is walking by the pond, land on their shoulder, and then fly back into the pond.

Mallow wrote:Mallow quietly watched from behind a water lily as a woman came over to the pond and sat down, eating a sandwich. The sandwich looked delicious, and Mallow watched, waiting for the woman to put the sandwich down just for a second so Mallow could grab it. But, unfortunately, the woman quickly finished her sandwich, leaving only a few crumbs of bread behind. Mallow, feeling quite silly and mischievous, Flew out of the pond and landed on the woman's shoulder. The woman jumped and let out a startled gasp, and, while trying to get Mallow of her, another sandwich wrapped in a thin plastic cover dropped out of her purse, and Mallow jumped off the woman and snatched it in her jaws before dragging it behind a patch of cattails. She tore off the the plastic and ate the sandwich, and then went back into the pond.

A little while later, Lemon and Sparrow came to the pond. Mallow greeted Lemon with a chirp, and jumped out of the water and then back in again with a splash. Lemon laughed, and Mallow swam around the pond, splashing her wings and sending water droplets flying. She smiled and though about what she would do the next day.

Helpful.
Mallow loves to help people and animals whenever she can. She once helped a baby raccoon that had fallen into the pond get out, and loves to "help" Lemon when she comes to the pond to draw, look for cattails, herbs, and other stuff like that. When Lemon is drawing, Mallow "helps" by splashing water on Lemon's notebook.

Mallow wrote:Mallow was nibbling on a fish and watching Lemon draw a dragonfly that had landed on a cattail. Sparrow was lazily flying after the annoying black fly that had been bugging her. Mallow giggled and splashed some water on Lemon's notebook. Lemon laughed and brushed the water droplets off of her notebook before going back to drawing. Mallow finished eating the fish and dove under the water. She watched the fish dart and weave through the water lilies, and she did the same. When she poked her head above the water, she saw that Lemon had finished her drawing and was closing her notebook. "Come on, Sparrow and Mallow, lets look for herbs around the pond." Lemon said. Sparrow flapped her wings and flew down onto Lemon's shoulder. Mallow flapped her wings and flew above the pond, watching Lemon and Sparrow search for plants. Then she spotted something. It looked like a herb, so Mallow flew down and landed next to it, and let out a chirp. Lemon came over. "Lemongrass! We can take some home and make lemongrass tea." She said. Sparrow nodded eagerly and helped Lemon pick some of the lemongrass.

After Lemon and Sparrow had left, Mallow decided to try some lemongrass for herself. She tasted it, but didn't find it delicious at all. She splashed back into the pond and caught a small fish, which she ate and then floated on the surface of the pond on her back, watching as the sun set. A crow flew across the sky and cawed, and Mallow giggled before splashing underwater to check on her collection of stones and moss and other stuff.

Sometimes can't sleep.
At times, Mallow just can't fall asleep, so instead floats on her back and gazes at the stars until she eventually drifts asleep. Even if she doesn't sleep the entire night, she usually is still quite energetic and happy the next day. No one really knows why she sometimes can't sleep, but It doesn't effect her at all.

Mallow wrote:It was one of those nights when Mallow just couldn't fall asleep. She didn't mind those nights, just wished that she could fall asleep. Could she not fall asleep because of the noisy cicadas? The occasional croak of a frog? The constant chirp of the crickets? She didn't know. Mallow flapped her wings, making the water ripple and water droplets fly. She closed her eyes and tried to fall asleep, and in fact was starting to drift asleep when she herd a frightened chirp. She opened her eyes and looked around, and then spotted where the chirp had come from. A baby sparrow had fallen out of it's nest in the oak tree and into the pond. Mallow rushed over to the baby bird and took it back up to it's nest, where it quickly settled into the soft moss and down feathers that lines the nest. Mallow smiled and flew back down to the pond, where she again floated on her back and closed her eyes.

Mallow eventually ended up falling to sleep, and when she woke up in the morning was just as happy and energetic as ever even though she barely got any sleep. She was happy she was able to save the bird, and when Lemon and Sparrow came to the pond Mallow was excited to see Lemon had brought Mallow some wild strawberries, which she hungrily ate and then chirped at Lemon, thanking her for the wild strawberries, and then swam around the pond happily.

Likes:
Fish and wild strawberries.
Mallow's two favorite foods are fish and wild strawberries. She loves the taste of fish, and the bitter sweetness of wild strawberries. It is for sure that those are her favorite foods.
Marshmallows.
Mallow loves marshmallows almost as much as fish and wild strawberries. She likes them just plain, but loves them roasted. The first time Lemon gave her a roasted marshmallow, Mallow immediately loved them.
Oak trees.
Although she mostly spends her time in the pond, Mallow will sometimes fly into the oak tree next to the pond and watch the birds and other creatures from up high in the. She simply loves oak trees.
Water lilies.
Mallow, being Utpala Rune, loves water lilies. She loves the color of them, and all together how they look. She tends to hide and sleep among them.
Storms.
Mallow does like storms, but sometimes they can make her sad and mopy. But still, she loves to hear the pitter patter of the rain as it hits the pond.
Swimming.
Mallow, of course, loves swimming. She could swim for hours without getting tired, and loves to weave through the water lilies as she swims through the water.

Dislikes:
Cold weather.
Mallow doesn't like cold weather one bit. She hates when the cold weather sometimes makes ice on the pond and turns the water colder, and sometimes the water lilies get covered in frost.
Cloudy days.
Mallow may like storms, but doesn't like it when it is cloudy but not raining. Cloudy days tend to make her sad and mopy, and also sometimes cool down the pond's water a little too much for Mallow's taste.
Ponds without water lilies.
Mallow hates ponds without water lilies... well, maybe not hates them, more like dislikes them a lot. If she had to be in a pond without water lilies, she would not be happy.
Herons.
Though Mallow likes most animals, she simply does not like herons. Maybe it is because one took one of her rocks she had collected, but one thing is for sure. Herons are not her favorite animal.
Wasps and bees.
Mallow doesn't like wasps and bees at all. No one really knows why, as she has never been stung or hurt by one, but it is clear she does not like them.
Littering.
Mallow hates when people who walk by the pond throw their junk into it, such as wrappers, plastic bottles, and chip bags. Mallow always makes sure to get any junk out of the pond, and then Lemon takes it away when she comes to the pond.

Why do you wish to have him/her:
She is simply stunning. I wasn't going to get another Rune so soon after winning Sparrow, but when I saw this girl I just had to try for her. I just love her colors and design, The blue base, the darker blue eyes, the green, the water lilies, she's just so pretty. This is only the second Rune I have tried for, the first being Sparrow, as none but Sparrow and this girl have caught my eye. She is so beautiful, and I just love her. I also love her wings and her horns, and basically everything about her, but especially her tail.
I love water lilies, and often, if I'm going for a walk and pass by a pond with water lilies, I have to stop and look for frogs and minnows swimming around them. So, when I saw this Rune was a water lily Rune, I simply had to try for her. I patiently waited for her to be put up for adoption, and when she was I filled out the form. Her wings remind me a bit of a hawks, and I also love hawks. Also, I think that, even though Sparrow is a prickly Thistle Rune, she could use another Rune companion. Though Sparrow doesn't like to get wet, I'm sure Mallow would come out of the water to play with her for a little bit. Anyway, for some reason she reminds me of willow trees and wildflowers as well, which I love almost as much as water lilies. Thank you for the chance at getting this adorable Rune.

Where will you keep him/her:
I would display her in my signature along with Sparrow, and love her to pieces, of course. I would add her to my Rune Dragon's thread, where I would tweak her personality, quirks, and likes and dislikes every now and then, and get lots of art of her and write stories about her. She would be displayed in my signature for a while, but then I would take her out for a bit to give another character the spotlight in my signature, and then put her back in my signature after a few days of having another character in it.
Would you like to breed him/her in the future:
If she finds the perfect male Rune for her, so yes.
Any Quirks:
Mallow, though she may appear to be a gentle, sweet Rune who wouldn't hurt a fly, is a fisher, and enjoys the taste of fish. She will only eat about one or two fish every other day, but if she doesn't get her fish every other day can become very mopy and tired. How she hunts fish is she hides behind a water lily, blending in, and when a fish swims by she swims forward quickly and snatches it in her jaws. She loves fish even more then wild strawberries, and could eat more then a dozen in one sitting if she wanted to, but doesn't because she knows other animals eat the fish too, and she doesn't want to purge the pond of all the fish. Though, sometimes, if she is really craving more fish she will fly to another nearby pond and hunt a few fish before flying back to the pond she normally stays in. Though, sometimes she simply takes a fish or two from the other pond and into her pond without killing or eating it, because sometimes the number of fish in her pond declines and she has to bring some fish from the other pond to keep the number of fish up.

Mallow can hold her breath for up to a minute and thirty seconds, sometimes even a bit longer, which is handy, since once when she was out looking for wild strawberries she was chased by a stray ginger tabby cat, and managed to get into her pond, while the cat watched the pond for a minute before padding away deeper into the woodlands. If she had to have taken a breath above the water, the cat might have caught her. everyday, she practices holding her breath, just in case she is ever chased by another cat, and also that she finds it fun to see how long she can hold her breath.

Mallow loves to collect things. No matter if it's feathers, leaves, moss, or stones, and really anything else. Her favorite thing she collected is a spoon someone left at the pond, but she loves all of the thing she has collected. Her favorite things to collect are sparkly, shiny, smooth things, such as stones. She also likes to collect moss, acorns from the oak tree near the pond, and other stuff like that. In the patch of water grasses at the bottom of the pond, Mallow has a ton of stuff she has collected tucked safely into it. She doesn't let anybody near her collection, not even the fish, crayfish, and frogs in the pond! Once, a heron that was fishing in the pond picked up one of Mallow's stones and flew away with it, and Mallow was moping and sad all day, though having an animal pick up something from her collection doesn't happen very often, but since the heron took the stone Mallow is extra protective of her collection.

Other:

Here is a story

It was a foggy, cloudy, drizzly day, but Sparrow insisted we look for herbs at the pond. After we had a good breakfast of lemongrass tea, gumdrops, and buttered toast we set off. When we got to the pond, Mallow was nowhere in sight, but I finally spotted her swimming through the water lilies trying to catch a fish.
I waved at her, and she poked her head above the water and chirped happily. Sparrow ignored Mallow and simply went looking for herbs hidden among the cattails and long grasses that surrounded the pond.
It was, in fact, quite a relaxing day, though a little chilly. Sparrow suddenly gave an excited and startled chirp and I walked over to Sparrow and Mallow swam over to her. I gasped when I saw what Sparrow was so excited about.
Huddled deep in a patch of tall grass was a small cream colored and brown tabby kitten. "Oh, he's adorable." I whispered, bending down to get a closer look at the kitten.
His breathing was shallow and he looked cold, so I scooped him up and rummaged through my bag for a little blanket, but couldn't find anything.
Suddenly, Mallow dove into the water and swam to the other side of the pond, grabbed something in her jaws, and flew back over to me, obliviously trying to keep whatever she had from getting wet.
Mallow landed on my shoulder and I took the thing from her. It was a scrap of fabric, but big and thick enough to keep the kitten warm. I thanked her, and wrapped the kitten in the cloth and hurried back to my cottage, while Sparrow went to gather some herbs for the kitten. When I got to my cottage I wrapped the kitten in a even thicker and bigger blanket and rubbed his fur backwards with my hand, and he soon started to warm up.
I was just about to heat up some food for him when I herd a soft rapping on my window, and when I looked out I saw that Mallow had followed me to my cottage. I let her inside, and she went straight over to the kitten.
I filled up the sink with water, and after a minute she flew into it, but once she got wet again went right back over to the kitten. Just then, Sparrow appeared with a bundle of herbs.
She chewed up some of the herbs fed them to the kitten, and then chirped at Mallow, but Mallow stayed where she was. Sparrow then pulled out a few of her own feathers and spread them around the kitten, and the kitten began to mew and squirm in the blanket. It was clear that with the help of a Thistle Rune and the love of a Utpala Rune, this kitten would survive.

A week later, the kitten was as healthy and playful as ever. Mallow is always coming to visit him, and sometimes he comes with me and Sparrow to the pond, but mostly stays at home. Mallow and the kitten are best friends, and he even doesn't mind getting wet. I can tell that Mallow and the kitten will always be good friends.
One sunny day, I decided the kitten, who I called Cattail, should get some exercise, so off we went to the pond, Sparrow perched on my shoulder and Cattail padded along next to me. At the pond, Mallow almost immediately appeared, giving a happy chirp and flying over to Cattail with a quite rustle of her wings.
Cattail mewed and purred, and then went over the pond and slid into the water and started swimming. I watched as Mallow dove under the water, and a few moment later came backup with two fish. She swam to the shore and dropped the fish on the ground, and Cattail followed her. They shared the fish, and I smiled. Sparrow was watching me draw the two from where she perched on an overhanging oak tree branch.
When I finished drawing, I put my notebook into my bag and Sparrow flew onto my shoulder. I said goodbye to Sparrow and thanked her for sharing her fish with Cattail, and she chirped and jumped into the pond with a splash, while Cattail came over, but after having played and then eaten looked quite sleepy, so I tucked him into my bag, and he curled up and fell asleep.
At some point, he must have jumped out of my bag (which is made of wool and open at the top) without me or Sparrow noticing, because when I got to my cottage and was about to make some lemongrass tea and serve some gumdrops for me and Sparrow before she left back to the forest, but when I checked my bag, Cattail wasn't in it.
So, after checking the garden and house, me and Sparrow went searching for him. Sparrow flew above me to see if she could spot Cattail from higher up, and I headed to the pond.
Sure enough, there was Cattail, happily swimming with Mallow. I tried, but couldn't reach him and he wouldn't swim over to me. Mallow, seeing I needed help getting Cattail back, nudged him with her wing to shore.
He mewed as I picked him up and put him back into my bag, but put my hand inside the bag this time so I would know if he tried to escape. "Thank you." I said to Mallow. She giggled and continued swimming around the pond.
Back at my cottage, after me and Sparrow had lemongrass tea and gumdrops and Sparrow had left, I made sure that Cattail was inside. He was, sleeping soundly on my bed. I smiled and realized without Mallow's help, it would have taken forever to get Cattail out of the water. I would bring her some fish and wild strawberries to thank her.

I also wrote a poem <3

Swimming among the water lilies,
giggling happily.
Leaping out of the water,
and then back in with a splash.
Searching for wild strawberries
located on the shore.
Fishing for fish
