Desired Somnei: I really like number 4
New Somnei name: Starscream
Reason for wanting one: I truly love the design of the species, but more so then that, I love what the species does. I am a very active dreamer, and I love dreaming, and dreams themselves. Therefor, this species really attracts me. Why, specifically, number four, however, is not because of his design, but because of how he was born, and how he lives. I feel sorry for him, and I would love to care for him.
What will it be used for? I would use Starscream in my signature, my avatar, and just about anywhere else I could. Oh, and stories. A lot of stories.
Describe your new Somnei: Starscream is very gentle and very passive. He doesn't like fighting much, and often avoids violent dreams. He isn't the most well skilled when it comes to controlling dreams, so he tends to stay back and observe them. Starscream's favorite dreams are ones where the dreamer's wishes come true, even though he always finds it very painful when he must leave the dream.
When Starscream isn't in the dreams where your wishes come true, he often ghosts around peaceful dreams, darkening the edges of happiness accidentally. For example, if you are dreaming about dancing in a field, you might find that the nearby mountains that surround your dream is coming closer. Whenever he is near, you can hear an essence around Starscream that chants "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry......"
Write a short story for your Somnei: I opened my eyes abruptly as my dream seemed to come to a sudden stop. It had been a wonderful dream! I was flying with my dragon, Starscream the Asian Lung, when I felt a strange presence interrupt my dream. Curious and now realizing I
was dream, I had woken up. As my eyes adjusted to the darkness, I saw a slightly neon-ish purple glow quickly duck under my pillow, and I couldn't help but feel my curiosity aroused even more. I slowly grasped the edge of my pillow, before questioning myself as to how I should go about pulling the pillow up. Go fast, and I might scare the creature away, go slow, and the same could occur.
I sat in an upright position for a good five minutes, considering if I should pull it off fast, like a bandaid, or slow, like a cherished book cover. Finally, breathing a sigh, I decided to do both. I slowly began to pull it up, and once the dull purple glow strengthened, I pulled it off completely. Curled up in a tight ball, was curious looking creature of black, grey, and purple. It looked a bit like a dragon, but the tendrils on its head and tail suggested something entirely different. In all honestly, he looked a bit like Starscream from my dream, albeit lacking a man and a lion face. No, this face was far more gentle, far kinder.
It stared at me with intelligent purple eyes. I put on my glasses and leaned forward a bit more. The creature would have easily fit in my two hands. The closer I got, the more evident a subtle whisper became. When I had first seen the creature, I didn't hear the whisper, but now I could. The closer I got, the clearer it became. "I'm Sorry," was being chanted over and over again. Carefully, tenderly, I picked up the small thing. It winced as I slipped it into my hands, letting out a noise akin to a whimper. I hushed it softly and held it in front of my eyes, staring at it from over my glasses. What a curious little thing!
"Hello," I whispered. It cocked it's head to the side as though it didn't understand me. I carefully got into a kneeling position, before crossing my legs in front of me and setting the small thing down.
I watched as a subtle glow over took it as it grew into the size of a small cat. I felt a twinge of fear clutch me as it stood up. Would it hurt me? However, the gentle eyes seemed to promise that no harm would come to me. If anything, it seemed more worried that I would harm it. I felt a twinge of sadness in my heart. Why was the creature so timid? What had happened to it? The more I looked at it, and the more I heard the chanting aura, the more I felt like crying.
Without a second thought, I reached out and touched the glowing orb-like crest on it's head. The creature recoiled, and I did the same, "I'm sorry!" I whispered. It looked at me in subtle surprise. I took the head of the dragon-thing without thinking and nuzzled it. It began to squirm, so I let it go.
"Starscream," I said suddenly, remembering the name of my dragon in my dream. The small creature reared up on it's reptilian hind legs and pressed it's forepaws to my chest. I giggled out how soft the touch was, and the sound seemed to scare it. However, upon hearing the name, it also seemed to gain a bit more confidence. Not much, but the change was there. The eyes were no longer fearful and flitting. They stared into mine with focus and control.
"Starscream," I said again, in a soft tone, and the creature, Starscream, seemed to calm down a bit. For some reason, I felt like I should be panicking. A dragon-like creature was sitting on my bed, in my room, touching me, and I was letting it. However, one look into the soulful violet gaze and I calmed. It wouldn't hurt me, and I wouldn't hurt it.
The soft blue light from my clock caught my attention, and I glanced at the time. 3 o'clock. Way to early to be awake. Carefully, I adjusted Starscream, who watched my movements with interest. I set him down next to me then I slipped back under my covers and closed my eyes, willing myself to fall back asleep. I felt something wrap around the top of my head, the ends of it touching either side of my chin, and I opened my eyes. Starscream was watching me with a dull look, almost as though waiting for me to fall asleep. I closed my eyes again and, within seconds, I fell back asleep.
In my dream, I was sitting on a large, fluffy cloud with no one else around. It was raining around me, but not on the cloud itself. I smiled brightly before willing the cloud to move up. I was a lucid dreamer, and I loved to control my dreams. As I broke through the cloud cover, I realized that I had been part of a huge maelstrom that twisted and turned under me. I couldn't help but laugh brightly. How amazing! The longer I stared in it though, the more I realized that
something was using the air current to rise up to me. For a split second, I was alarmed, but a moment later, I recognized the creature flying towards me, though now he was the size of the Chinese Lung from my dream. After a few minutes of tedious wind changes, Starscream broke through the current and flew over to me before resting on the cloud that I was sitting on. Despite my desperate urge to wrap my arms around his neck, I didn't actively do anything to Starscream. Instead, I turned my gaze to the maelstrom and watched it churn with a dull excitement.
I suddenly turned around to face Starscream. He turned to face me, subtle surprise in his face. I gave him my widest grin and leaned against him. A chittering noise emitted from deep in his throat, and I couldn't help but laugh helplessly. Slowly, the maelstrom began to dissipate. I turned around and, despite my previous hesitance, I wrapped my arm around Starscream and hugged him, still laughing helplessly. Slowly, the creature rested his head and neck on me. I breathed a sigh. I could feel hesitant trust. I shifted myself so that my mouth was near his ear and I whispered, "You can trust me, Starscream. I can protect you."
After a moment or so in the embrace, I pulled away. Starscream looked more at ease now, almost happy. I breathed a content sigh ad leaned back against him again, watching as cirrus clouds flew over my head. I could still hear the chant "I'm sorry, I'm sorry...", but it was quieter now. Starscream was content.... and so was I.
