Owner Name: Ashwyn Name: Zade
-After scrolling through several ME forums in order to get a feel for typical varren names, I decided to do something of a variant from them all, and chose Zade XD Mainly because I find it to be a catchy and rather....appropriate name. Looking it up it apparently is an Arabic name and means 'stylish' XD Which suits him in a way as well, but I prefer to think it has a darker meaning, making me think of both shade and pain for whatever reason- Gender: Male Personality: Zade is actually a far more complex Rune than most give him credit for. Generally some people assume that Varren runes are less intelligent than most, simply because they are canine-like. That is incredibly far from the truth, in reality Zade is a highly intelligent, observant, and cunning rune, capable of making fairly complex decisions and thoughts.
~Cunning~
Zade is a very cunning creature. He knows how to manipulate people, using their conclusions that they form against him as a means of getting others to bend to his own purposes. Of course, the fact that he can't communicate, even with his bonded bearer, has made things even more in his favour, as most simply assume he has the intelligence of a regular ole canine.Zade wrote:The ground foliage was dense and very dark green, I found myself focusing on it curiously, the dark shade of green. Made me think of dank and dark places, cruel men, and the colour purple. Growling softly I closed my eyes and shook my head quickly to clear it. Focus Zade, focus. The voices I had heard earlier were growing steadily louder. Good for me yes, not so great for them though. Ah well, it suited my purposes well enough, I couldn't really complain. Then suddenly I sensed and felt the bushes thinning. Instinctively I cringed and stopped, sunlight burned my eyes, I was far more accustomed and suited to the darkest times of the night. Still, it had been a while since I had had the pleasure of tricking others into suiting my purposes. And life was rather dull on your own, as a loner.
So, even though I abhorred doing so, I flew out slowly into the sunlight, eventually coming to settle on the ground near two female humans feet, making sure to shuffle my feet loudly as I approached them. The first one, with long brown hair, turned and spotted me. I had to keep the blank look on my face, but inwardly I was howling with amusement. She looked as though she had swallowed a bone wrong and had it stuck in her craw. "Mary. Mary. MARY!!!" The female was screaming now, bolting to her feet and nearly tripping over herself. "WHAT IS THAT THING?!?" By now the second female, with yellow-ish hair, was panicking simply because her of her friend. "What?! What thing?!? Where...is it on ME?!?!?" Shrieking the second one jumped up and began to do an odd hop-skipping match with each other. How pathetic. I thought dryly, though I had to admit that it felt good to be able to inflict such fear. Making my eyes even bigger, and baring my teeth in a mockery of a smile, I chirruped and hopped a few steps closer. This, of course, garnered the response I had been looking for. The second female, seeing me now, let off an earsplitting shriek and literally fainted dead away. The first one froze, her eyes growing wider and wider, before she turned and bolted. What are friends for. I thought sarcastically, studying the abandoned friend now. They would fail as a pack. I thought to myself with disgust, such pathetic creatures. No loyalty whatsoever. Shaking my head slowly I hopped closer to the prone form of the yellow-haired human and started nosing through the belongings she still had with her. I managed to find several pieces of uneaten meat, a great find, along with several other interesting knickknacks. Eventually I grew bored with that though, and decided to move along. Opening up my wings I took to the air and flew off.
~Inquisitive~
Naturally Zade is highly inquisitive and curious. He likes getting his nose into the middle of things, a fact which has gotten him in trouble a time or two. That being said, Zade always likes to say: "Curiosity killed the cat....but then, I'm not a cat." A fact which has perhaps worked in his favour, as Zade is still alive and kicking at this point.Zade wrote:Flying silently through the shadows between the trees I happened to find myself attracted to the sound of a roaring fire and two voices speaking. One was clearly female, and more than once her voice rose up in a tinkling laugh that echoed through the trees. The other was male, deep and rumbly with a playful edge to it. Chirruping thoughtfully to myself I finally decided that I would investigate, who knew? it might just prove to be a worthwhile endeavor that was more than a little fun.
Yet as I slowly approached the roaring fire and then began to watch the pair something felt a little.....strange about it all. For one thing the huge male had eyes that occasionally glowed golden, and there was a powerful aura to him that instantly drew me to him for whatever reason. But it wasn't until the huge male swiveled his head to look into the shadows, nostrils flaring as though he could smell me, that I felt a real quiver of fear slide through me. Tilting his head the male spoke out in a loud and commanding voice. "Who goes there?" Still hoping that I might avoid detection I remained silent, but with a sudden roar the human male transformed into a majestic red, blue, gold, and black dragon. Awestruck I found myself teetering out of the shadows, eyes focused wholly on the amazing rune dragon in front of me. Tilting his head the male let his wings fold and settled back on the ground beside his human companion. "What is he Falanon? Another Rune dragon obviously, but I've never seen one like this before...." The female human stretched out on her stomach and propped her elbows on the ground, resting her chin into her cupped hands. The male dragon let out a thoughtful rumble and addressed her. "I'm not entirely sure, never seen a rune like this before either. Let me ask him." Lowering his head so that it was inches from mine the big male looked at me curiously. "Greetings little one. My name is Falanon, I am one of the ancients. Who might you be?" A sort of breathlessness stole over me, but somehow I managed to keep my head and reply in a soft voice. "My-my name is Zade. I am a Varren rune, and...if you would permit it....I'd love to travel with you and protect you." The last bit I hadn't planned on saying, but this Falanon was so majestic....well, it seemed the natural thing to do. The human companion was a slight turn off, but I figured it was worth it if I got to travel with this ancient. Apparently surprised the big male turned again to his female companion, "He says his name is Zade, a Varren Rune, and that he'd like to travel with us....also, I've heard a bit about them, loyal to a fault and fantastic protectors. But whatever you'd like Kat, I'm good either way." I felt slightly deflated with these words, he was deferring to the human? But it wasn't for me to judge, instead I looked grudgingly at the female, who seemed to be studying me. Finally she shot a brilliant smile in my direction. "Of course he can come with us! The more the merrier I guess. Besides. He's cute." Cute? Not a word generally associated with me. But I was too filled with glee to care, I would be traveling alongside them from now on! It would appear that curiosity once again had won the day for me.
~ Protective ~
A typical trait of his species, Zade is as loyal and protective as they come. He loves nothing more than to fight using all the skills and talents at his disposal, just to keep the two he cares about safe. In fact, it wouldn't be a lie to say that Zade would fight to the death for them, fling himself into the jaws of an enemy to buy them more time, he is simply willing to do anything necessary to keep them safe. Zade wrote:I sat perched on Falanon's shoulder, after months of travel it had become normal for me to do this. Tucked away in the crook between his neck and shoulders I could while away the day until the sun went down, allowing me to come back out and continue socializing with them. Daytime was just too harsh on my large eyes. On Falan's other side I heard Kat yawn deeply, that generally meant that my time talking with them would be limited, when she was tired Falanon insisted on them all turning it in early. Well, except for me of course, I was charged with guarding them at night, a job I took great pride in. They were my pack after all, kept me fed, taught me how to live and have fun without stealing, more than that though....they genuinely cared for me. Flaws and all, even though most considered me ugly and ran off screaming, Kat seemed to think I was the most adorable rune dragon in existence. Odd for me really, who would think that I was cute? But I couldn't complain, life was good and fulfilling, already I had seen more of this world than ever before, and the travel too was intoxicating.
Eventually we found a nice clearing, and Falanon and Kat quickly set about setting up camp, I watched them silently for a while, eventually deciding to settle down on a low tree branch and just watch them. Kat started singing a song and pretty soon Falan joined in, the symphony of their voices lulling me into an almost trance-like state, utterly filled with happiness and contentment. In fact, it wasn't until much later when they were whispering their goodnights that I truly woke back up. Chirruping my own form of goodnight to them I shook myself awake and peered into the inky blackness surrounding us. For once my vigilance turned out to be necessary, three hooded men dressed all in black were slipping silently between the trees, moonlight glinting off the silver knives they were carrying in their hands. Hissing furiously, the audacity of them trying to attack such a mighty ancient and his mate infuriated me, and without making a sound I swooped in on the first one. It was a quick fight, he didn't know what had hit him, and barely had a chance to scream before I was moving on to the second one. He was more prepared for me though, and a sharp pain in my shoulder announced that he had nicked me with the knife. Still, Falanon and Kat were awake by now, and the third man had only just started running away when Falanon took him down, his roar of fury being the last sound the male would hear. Kat joined me instead, and together the two of us struck and parried with the man, until we finally wore him down to the point of exhaustion, at which time I dove in and delivered the killing bite.
For a few moments after the fight I could only sit wearily on the branch, minor shock and adrenaline still pumping rapidly through my body. Slowly though it dawned on me that I had protected them from this, saved them from any real injury, and Kat must have come to that realization at the same time as me, because she then threw her arms around me and sniffled emotionally, "Thank-you Zade, I don't know what we'd do without you." And I felt a sense of incredible pride and belonging rip through me. Even as Falanon murmured his own heartfelt thank-yous I knew. I had finally found a place to call home. Not a location or a nest, but rather a home in two living creatures that now constituted my pack, and that was the greatest joy of all.
Zade isn't different from his wild relatives really, he still has that aggressive and deadly streak in him, the difference is that Kat and Falanon have become his pack, so protecting the comes first. He especially idolizes Falan, and since Kat is essentially Falanon's mate he really had no choice but to accept her, and by now truly cares for her too. With that in mind you get the basic picture of what Zade's personality is. Why do you wish to have him/her: I find that I am inherently drawn to the creatures and designs that most people feel are "creepy" "ugly" or "frightening". I happen to think they are adorable, and associate with them well for whatever reason. The fact that this precious boy looks as frightening and cool as he does....well, my heart literally skipped a beat when I first saw him ^^ I've been wanting a second rune for a while now, particularly because Vorren has been changed into Falanon the Ancient, and I just felt in my gut that he is the perfect fit for everything. Apart from my own adoration for him that built instantly for him, I also can just picture him tagging along behind Falanon adoringly. With such a pack mentality, coupled with the fact that Falanon is quite the top dog, I have a feeling that Zade would be the type to loyally defend both Kat and Falon with his life, loyal and yet very, very wild.
Since we're leaving to go camping for a week tomorrow, I knew that if we didn't reach 200 pages today I wouldn't have a chance. As it is I'm getting behind on my online German course in order to fill out this form, but I really feel he's worth it. Which is what I really hope comes across, the fact that I'm definitely willing to sacrifice to win this boy. I just pray that my instant love for him will be able to come across in my form. Where will you keep him?: Well, Zade refuses to be separated from Falanon's side, so he'll have to have a spot in my signature. Once I get my Rune thread set up he'll also make his own little home there, and I'll likely be using him in a plethora of stories and roleplays as well. He just has this way about him I think, and I can definitely imagine buying him lots of art. Essentially? This lil varren is going to be getting a lot of face time in my threads, siggies, roleplays, and just in general. Maybe I'll even be able to tame him to the point where he'll willingly sit on my shoulder. Would you like to breed him/her in the feature: Well, Zade isn't exactly going to let me neuter him, and a varren does what a varren does. So yes.
Besides, I would feel selfish, keeping his amazingness all to myself XD I'll be picky about breeding though. Very picky. Any Quirks: Zade has many quirks, rather typical for a canine like rune I should think, the biggest one I've noticed thus far is his penchant for flaring his nostril and clacking his teeth together when angry. He also flaps his wings and smacks his tail against the ground when hungry. When happy? Well, Zade has this tendency to trill softly, no, not a "pretty" trill. His sounds more like a very deep and guttural cross between a cat purr and a dog growl, odd I know, but strangely endearing. Apart from these indicators of mood Zade does have a few other quirks that I would like to share with you.
He is well known for going positively berserk when he sees the colour purple. Red? Totally fine. Green? Equally at ease, but bring out anything that has a shade of purple on it and he'll go mad, doing his very best to tear it to shreds or devour it. This even goes so far to extend to flowers and other such natural shades of purple, he's been seen racing off in a frothy frenzy, only to stop at a tiny patch of little purple blooms and promptly tear them to shreds. I speculate that he underwent some sort of trauma before I found him, where the colour purple was involved -ludicrous as that sounds-.
Another entertaining quirk? Well, it's said that music tames the savage beast, and in Zade's case that is indeed true. The presence of singing or just music of any sort generally lulls him into a relaxed and almost sleepy state. I would say its similar to that completely relaxed state that a cat or dog goes in once you've begun petting them for a while. In fact, it makes him so relaxed that I have actually dared to pick him up and cuddle him for a while. It's also the swiftest way to gain his trust, and I find that our relationship has improved by leaps and bounds since singing to him. Other: Fierce and fiery to the end
Bones and flesh he easily rends
Born with teeth like butcher knives
Yet respect is what he boldly strives
Traveling now with Ancient and girl
His life's been quickly sent awhirl
Yet protecting them now, his only goal
Paying his due for all that he's stole.
A bond was forged that fateful day
Will it end? None can say.
All he knows is this great fact
None can break his heartfelt pact.
Even the girl has a place in his heart
From both of them now he'd never part.
For Zade did realize through their bond
That even a human can make him fond
The Varren's purpose thus surely must be
To find the right person and then to see
See how they open the world for you
And make hearts desires really come true.
