Zade
Owner: Ashwyn
Gender: Male
Type: Baby Varren Rune"Congratulations, it's a Boy!"This wild boy is the son of Chaos and Adrian. The Varren Rune is a pack oriented creature and quite dangerous. Lucky for us, this one is just a baby but still just as feisty as his kind is known for. The Varren Runes grow up to be the size of great danes with twice the jaw power. Their vice like grip is deadly and even the little ones can snap your finger like a stick of butter! Their eyes are large and quite alien-like, they can absorb any light and are nocturnal creatures by nature. However, a well trained Varren Rune is a wonderful guard dog to have around and very loyal to the one who raises him. Even though they grow to be very large they can be quite the pampered pooch if raised with a firm but gentle hand. If anyone tries to mess with a Varren Rune's owner, they will certainly turn vicious and are not known to release their grip on someone unless something from their prey comes off! Be advised that these runes are still quite feral even if they are tamed. You can not take the wild nature out of these dragons and they are mostly active at night. Their wild brothers hunt in packs and are the cause for many Rune Bearers and their dragons to go missing in the dead of night. So be weary of the wild Varren Runes but take comfort if one is tamed and calls you friend.

Zade wrote:The ground foliage was dense and very dark green, I found myself focusing on it curiously, the dark shade of green. Made me think of dank and dark places, cruel men, and the colour purple. Growling softly I closed my eyes and shook my head quickly to clear it. Focus Zade, focus. The voices I had heard earlier were growing steadily louder. Good for me yes, not so great for them though. Ah well, it suited my purposes well enough, I couldn't really complain. Then suddenly I sensed and felt the bushes thinning. Instinctively I cringed and stopped, sunlight burned my eyes, I was far more accustomed and suited to the darkest times of the night. Still, it had been a while since I had had the pleasure of tricking others into suiting my purposes. And life was rather dull on your own, as a loner.
So, even though I abhorred doing so, I flew out slowly into the sunlight, eventually coming to settle on the ground near two female humans feet, making sure to shuffle my feet loudly as I approached them. The first one, with long brown hair, turned and spotted me. I had to keep the blank look on my face, but inwardly I was howling with amusement. She looked as though she had swallowed a bone wrong and had it stuck in her craw. "Mary. Mary. MARY!!!" The female was screaming now, bolting to her feet and nearly tripping over herself. "WHAT IS THAT THING?!?" By now the second female, with yellow-ish hair, was panicking simply because her of her friend. "What?! What thing?!? Where...is it on ME?!?!?" Shrieking the second one jumped up and began to do an odd hop-skipping match with each other. How pathetic. I thought dryly, though I had to admit that it felt good to be able to inflict such fear. Making my eyes even bigger, and baring my teeth in a mockery of a smile, I chirruped and hopped a few steps closer. This, of course, garnered the response I had been looking for. The second female, seeing me now, let off an earsplitting shriek and literally fainted dead away. The first one froze, her eyes growing wider and wider, before she turned and bolted. What are friends for. I thought sarcastically, studying the abandoned friend now. They would fail as a pack. I thought to myself with disgust, such pathetic creatures. No loyalty whatsoever. Shaking my head slowly I hopped closer to the prone form of the yellow-haired human and started nosing through the belongings she still had with her. I managed to find several pieces of uneaten meat, a great find, along with several other interesting knickknacks. Eventually I grew bored with that though, and decided to move along. Opening up my wings I took to the air and flew off.
Zade wrote:Flying silently through the shadows between the trees I happened to find myself attracted to the sound of a roaring fire and two voices speaking. One was clearly female, and more than once her voice rose up in a tinkling laugh that echoed through the trees. The other was male, deep and rumbly with a playful edge to it. Chirruping thoughtfully to myself I finally decided that I would investigate, who knew? it might just prove to be a worthwhile endeavor that was more than a little fun.
Yet as I slowly approached the roaring fire and then began to watch the pair something felt a little.....strange about it all. For one thing the huge male had eyes that occasionally glowed golden, and there was a powerful aura to him that instantly drew me to him for whatever reason. But it wasn't until the huge male swiveled his head to look into the shadows, nostrils flaring as though he could smell me, that I felt a real quiver of fear slide through me. Tilting his head the male spoke out in a loud and commanding voice. "Who goes there?" Still hoping that I might avoid detection I remained silent, but with a sudden roar the human male transformed into a majestic red, blue, gold, and black dragon. Awestruck I found myself teetering out of the shadows, eyes focused wholly on the amazing rune dragon in front of me. Tilting his head the male let his wings fold and settled back on the ground beside his human companion. "What is he Falanon? Another Rune dragon obviously, but I've never seen one like this before...." The female human stretched out on her stomach and propped her elbows on the ground, resting her chin into her cupped hands. The male dragon let out a thoughtful rumble and addressed her. "I'm not entirely sure, never seen a rune like this before either. Let me ask him." Lowering his head so that it was inches from mine the big male looked at me curiously. "Greetings little one. My name is Falanon, I am one of the ancients. Who might you be?" A sort of breathlessness stole over me, but somehow I managed to keep my head and reply in a soft voice. "My-my name is Zade. I am a Varren rune, and...if you would permit it....I'd love to travel with you and protect you." The last bit I hadn't planned on saying, but this Falanon was so majestic....well, it seemed the natural thing to do. The human companion was a slight turn off, but I figured it was worth it if I got to travel with this ancient. Apparently surprised the big male turned again to his female companion, "He says his name is Zade, a Varren Rune, and that he'd like to travel with us....also, I've heard a bit about them, loyal to a fault and fantastic protectors. But whatever you'd like Kat, I'm good either way." I felt slightly deflated with these words, he was deferring to the human? But it wasn't for me to judge, instead I looked grudgingly at the female, who seemed to be studying me. Finally she shot a brilliant smile in my direction. "Of course he can come with us! The more the merrier I guess. Besides. He's cute." Cute? Not a word generally associated with me. But I was too filled with glee to care, I would be traveling alongside them from now on! It would appear that curiosity once again had won the day for me.
Zade wrote:I sat perched on Falanon's shoulder, after months of travel it had become normal for me to do this. Tucked away in the crook between his neck and shoulders I could while away the day until the sun went down, allowing me to come back out and continue socializing with them. Daytime was just too harsh on my large eyes. On Falan's other side I heard Kat yawn deeply, that generally meant that my time talking with them would be limited, when she was tired Falanon insisted on them all turning it in early. Well, except for me of course, I was charged with guarding them at night, a job I took great pride in. They were my pack after all, kept me fed, taught me how to live and have fun without stealing, more than that though....they genuinely cared for me. Flaws and all, even though most considered me ugly and ran off screaming, Kat seemed to think I was the most adorable rune dragon in existence. Odd for me really, who would think that I was cute? But I couldn't complain, life was good and fulfilling, already I had seen more of this world than ever before, and the travel too was intoxicating.
Eventually we found a nice clearing, and Falanon and Kat quickly set about setting up camp, I watched them silently for a while, eventually deciding to settle down on a low tree branch and just watch them. Kat started singing a song and pretty soon Falan joined in, the symphony of their voices lulling me into an almost trance-like state, utterly filled with happiness and contentment. In fact, it wasn't until much later when they were whispering their goodnights that I truly woke back up. Chirruping my own form of goodnight to them I shook myself awake and peered into the inky blackness surrounding us. For once my vigilance turned out to be necessary, three hooded men dressed all in black were slipping silently between the trees, moonlight glinting off the silver knives they were carrying in their hands. Hissing furiously, the audacity of them trying to attack such a mighty ancient and his mate infuriated me, and without making a sound I swooped in on the first one. It was a quick fight, he didn't know what had hit him, and barely had a chance to scream before I was moving on to the second one. He was more prepared for me though, and a sharp pain in my shoulder announced that he had nicked me with the knife. Still, Falanon and Kat were awake by now, and the third man had only just started running away when Falanon took him down, his roar of fury being the last sound the male would hear. Kat joined me instead, and together the two of us struck and parried with the man, until we finally wore him down to the point of exhaustion, at which time I dove in and delivered the killing bite.
For a few moments after the fight I could only sit wearily on the branch, minor shock and adrenaline still pumping rapidly through my body. Slowly though it dawned on me that I had protected them from this, saved them from any real injury, and Kat must have come to that realization at the same time as me, because she then threw her arms around me and sniffled emotionally, "Thank-you Zade, I don't know what we'd do without you." And I felt a sense of incredible pride and belonging rip through me. Even as Falanon murmured his own heartfelt thank-yous I knew. I had finally found a place to call home. Not a location or a nest, but rather a home in two living creatures that now constituted my pack, and that was the greatest joy of all.
