I'm sorry this is rather inactive at the moment.
While I'm a bit busy elsewhere I've also recently gotten a new computer and haven't been able to fix photoshop for it yet, I promise to give you a few new deer as soon as I can draw on this computer, don't worry.

It will be great to see more action here ^^
I'm sure everyone agrees that it will be nice to see some new deer and perhaps customs open again.

Two new deer up on the front page.
Normal rules for these; you have to write a story for me to judge, no poems/lyrics.

I can't say now when judging will take place since I'm busy with many other things.
I'll warn one day/a few hours ahead at least. (:

Good luck everyone!

((Trying for the buck,it's been a while.. XD I was waiting for the right one to bound along.))

Like a tiger he flew, like a tiger he jumped. One of the most graceful creatures, and the most rare, usually only wanted for their coats. This buck was no different. He was wanted like the others, but he was more wiser than them.He knew no fear, but knew to run when he had to.As his mother used to say,"If you see them, they cannot see you,if they see you and you cannot see them, but can hear them, show no fear and run gracefully away."

WIP,writers block...bleh..

[ note: this will go back and forth between the boy and the buck. ]

~ I was destined to be king. To watch the flora grow, feel the rays of the sun, and feel the wind tickle me. I was supposed to rule everything, even my predators. I was supposed to be the wisest, and the owls were supposed to be my advisors. The rabbits were my messengers, the falcons my aerial lookout, the frogs and songbirds my orchestra, and everyone else my subjects. No one was to rebel, no one was to object. It was supposed to be a peaceful kingdom. I was to rule it all.

All that changed with one, innocent demand.

= I was born premature in a crowded city with terrible breathing air. I was expected to die within the first few weeks. My mother’s fury was unleashed; my father had considered leaving, and my mother found out. How she found out, no one knew. My mother had her ways, I suppose. That aside, the doctors hung over me, watching me, expecting me to die. They had hooked me up to a bunch of machines, but they still persisted in watching me die. Why are doctors so interested in a baby dying, I do not know.
Miraculously, I survived the few weeks, then the few months, then the first year. The doctors finally let me off, but warned my parents about potential heart dysfunctions and other medical things I still can’t grasp the concept of. My mother doted upon me the day we left the hospital. As soon as I opened my mouth, she came dashing through the door to check what I needed. I was a content child, and I grew up with love.

All that changed with one, dark secret.

~ I was a fawn back then, and I did not know of the great expectations thrust forth upon me. I only thought that I was on an adventure when my father told me we were going to the Great Hills. You could see the forest from there. I remember I had pranced around my father, yipping with excitement. He had chuckled, and told me to, “Come along, or we can’t get there before dark.” I had dashed toward him, and I completely forgot about my mother not coming along with us.
After a day’s distance away from home, I suddenly remembered my mother. She wasn’t here with us.
“Where’s mother?” I inquired my father, looking at him with wide eyes.
He suddenly halted, and looked at me, incredulous. “Why do you ask?” he replied.
I huffed and retorted, “Because she’s not here, and I want her here!” A tear threatened to trickle down as I sniffled. My father sighed, and trotted towards me.
“Would it really help for your mother to be here right now?” he whispered, nuzzling my cheek.
“Yes.”

= I was a young child, five to be exact, when it happened. My father was always on “outings” and would come back very late in the evening, perhaps 1 or 2 AM. Wherever he went, I did not know, nor did I care—if my mother was here for me, I was fine.

still a wip~

I would like this buck because of his stunning beauty and qualities. They remind me of my cousin. Unfortunately my cousin passed away a few years ago due to an illness she had had from birth. The deer's antlers represent her ever growing strength as she fought the illness. Although occassionally her strength broke down, just like a deer sheds his antlers, it always grew back, this time newer and stronger. The buck's green eyes looking forward remind me of her eyes and their look of determination. It was ever present and always in her eyes. She believed. The buck's coloring is like that of my cousin's; her illness was of the skin. The thin and slender body/legs of the deer remind me of her small stature, but strong willpower. And lastly, the stripes on the deer's back illustrate my cousin's peaks and landslides through her treatment. The last stripe is small, showing how although she was recovering, she was also leaving us. God bless her and thank you for reading this.

The Story: (The Bucks and my Cousin's)

Born into a world with a problem didn't let them stop believing,
Didn't let them stop fighting.
Surviving through countless obstacles:
For the buck, it was hunters,
For her, medications and treatments.
Although she left us through a painstakingly long coma,
He is still among us.
The buck is here to help her onward and forward.
Through her old life with us
And her new one above.

"I am not a dog!" The doe shouted again, her head and neck in line with her spine as she glared at the writhing jumping canines beyond the fence. They always wanted her to 'come play' with them, to 'chase things' and 'race across the field'. But she wasn't going to just go chasing things or racing dogs around everywhere. It was the color, always the color with them. Often some of them would get in fights over what kind of dog she was. Some decided that she was a dalmation because of her spots, and several collies and huskies would get into huge brawls over whether the pattern on the front half of her body was like one or the other. Really, it was like a deer's pattern. Because, you know, that was what she was! A deer! Not a collie or a dalmation or any form of northern snow dog!

"C'mon Doe, stop saying that and come play!" A waggy tailed chocolate labrador barked, lowering his chest in a playful stance. Yeah, because they all thought that she meant her name was Doe instead of it being what she was. So they all started calling her Doe and a little crazy for not knowing that they weren't all named 'Dog'.

"Of course you aren't a Dog, you are a Doe!" A puppy somewhere squashed in the middle yipped, trying to jump up for a better view of the giant 'canine'. The other deer in the fence were beginning to mock her with it too, calling her Doe the Dog quite often these days. If only she had never survived that gun shot wound, never been put here with the various other deer and elk. They were kind people, these humans that went out of their way to rescue the deer. But they had way too many dogs. Usually the dogs just left the deer alone as they were trained to do, watching them from time to time with interest or just laying the the shade of the trees on the other side of the fence. But the day that she arrived that all changed. Now there was a dog in there, and they didn't think it was fair. This dog kept braking the rules by being in there.

Like she had a choice.

"No, I am not named Doe, I AM a doe!" Not that she actually had another name. Deer just didn't tend to name themselves or each other. Unlike dogs who were named by their humans, deer generally just went by smells.

"Yes, yes, we know you are a Doe; now come play with us!"

(sorry, I just felt like being very silly)
