My entry

Postby Flitter » Fri Jun 29, 2012 2:30 am

I stood beside a hill
Smooth with new-laid snow,
A single star looked out
From the cold evening glow.

There was no other creature
That saw what I could see --
I stood and watched the evening star
As long as it watched me.
~Sarah Teasdale

I was intending to use Equid's beautiful lines...I really was. But then I did the background and...it just didn't work! I'm sorry... <3

Anyway, this was tons of fun. I was drawn to this competition by the offer of help from such a good artist, and then I just kind of got sucked in! I feel like there's something missing--any input, anybody?
the timer is all-knowing, but not by that much. :3

Oh, Equid? Do you mind if I keep this the way it is and then copy the same design onto your lines with the required headshot stuff?

Hello there. If you're having a rough day, I hope that the next one is better for you. If you're struggling with things, I'm so proud of you for keeping going. You are amazing.

It seems all the posts from yesterday are gone. You don't have to put the markings on another wolf unless you want to because I didn't say you can't use your own lines.

I wonder where you got your drawing skills though if you didn't get them here.

Ok, I will try to remember the tip I gave you.

1. Snow, there would be some in the tree branches, at it's base and on top of the wolf and beside it's body and paws. To do this I'd create another layer above the lines. Be sure you erase the base of the tree except w here a few roots come above ground. To smooth out the snow I would use a smudge on maybe size 4 (ish)

2. If you already worked on the art on the 30th, and saved it, it is not lost. All you have to do is go to

viewtopic.php?f=16&t=1260850

and then click the appropriate post there and follow Nick's directions, this is very important! After you follow Nick's directions, the art will post in your unsaved artwork first (the little ones at the bottom that you have not completed.) Then come back here, click color me in, choose your art from the 30th and save it again, it will post here.

I am also going to post this in the first page and give people some further time to complete.

Thanks again (I think I responded Friday) for your kind words, Equid...I tried to fix it up, but the snow on top of the back is worrying me. I just can't give it the proper depth. Oh well...this closes tomorrow, and I should just accept that this is good enough for now. It was fun to enter, if nothing else! <3

Good job working with the tips. For the depth you are looking for on the snow, take the 2 layers you seem to have and work with them. On the snow, add in a little lighter on the top or use the dodge tool to lighten it to near white in color at the top. I'd even use a brush to paint on some near white on his back instead of the splatter. I would also use the smudge tool to blend the edges in making it look like accumulation instead of dots. On the darker layer, again the smudge tool and even the burn tool to darken in a few spots where the snow is thicker. The smudge tool is great for smoothing edges. If you look in my gallery you'll find a snow scene as an example if you'd like. I always work on things 25strokes at a time or less and then stand back and take a look and see if I want to undo it. You can use control z or undo up to 30 times in this Oekaki.

I'm glad you did your own lines, it looks very nice and I'm off to judge after Nick's 2:30 AM update is complete.

Congratulations, you win grand prize in my competition. Yeahhhhh!!!! :D :D :D :D :D

Send me a trade suggestion with what store pets or what $30 in store items you would like. Plus the other pets of course from the trades. Once you are done, I will move on to the 1st place winner.
