What is a Vernamei Gargoyle?
They are tiny creatures, born the size of a mouse only to reach the size of a rabbit upon full maturity. Their limbs are short, keeping them close to the ground, but are long like a weasel. They have a short coat of rough fur, colored in mainly natural occurring colors, such as browns, white, grays, and black. The occasional odd color has been spotted, though only tiny spots or markings. VG's are omnivorous creatures, eating mainly berries and sweet fruits, they have also been known to hunt small rodents and insects. They may even take down something their own size, such as a rabbit.

Some VG's are born with tiny, flightless wings, resembling dragon wings. Their tails range from short bobbed tails, to long busy tails, much like a fox's. On rare occasions, one will be born nearly naked, only a very faint coat of fur covering their skin.

Social Life.
Vernamei Gargoyles generally live by themselves, or with a life-mate. Once a mate has been found, they are together until death. They are peaceful with one another, never fighting over anything. There are only ever a mate pair, and their young offspring, forming family groups. Once capable, the pups will leave their parents to live in their own. Litters consist of 1-3 pups. 1-2 being the most common amount. They are incapable of producing identical twins.

Where do they live?
They live virtually everywhere. They prefer to keep away from cold places, burrowing into the ground, or in trees to escape the cold. They are found more often in homes than outside, living in the walls and scavenging the kitchen. Once the mice and other pests are gone, of course.

Behavior.
Being docile and peaceful, they can make great pets. However, they are very timid creatures, and often have a worried expression. They tend to keep to themselves and rarely make a sound. They act much like a house cat, and once they are comfortable, they tend to play around a lot.

So I've heard rumors of Runic markings. What are those?
A runic marking is an uncommon marking of an ancient, long dead language. most often it's a letter. On rare occasions they will be a word. These do little more than beautify the VG and make it's coat more rare. At times, a VG may share a rune in common with several others. Though the more rare ones will influence the theme of the VG. For example, a Death rune will influence a darker more sinister looking VG. Though it's personalities will not be effected by it. These more often then not are domesticated pets, as they are highly valued, yet very vulnerable in the wild.

So what's this "Genetic Code" I've seen?
A genetic code is just that. The genes of a VG. A specific code may be predominant, or more likely to appear in their pups. For example, a runic code has a higher chance to produce a runic marking. Two put together doubles that chance. Certain colors are also in a genetic code. Two rare VGs may have a slightly increased chance to birth an uncommon, or even rare pup, or pups. As another example of how a code is read would be like this: Runic Blood Mist. Or possibly: Yellow painted. Mist and painted don't really mean much, except that there is a small amount, or a larger amount, of the color. If you have a Runic Grass Paint genetic code, this means you have at least one rune on your VG as well as a grass green color that takes up a larger space, such as a paint horse.

So then, how do we know what rune our VG has?
Simple. Below the genetic code will be the letter, or word, the rune represents.

OK, OK, so how does the marking system go anyways?
Being naturally colored, their markings are limited. Some have more markings than others, and some may share similar markings. For example, your VG was made first, but another came around that look similar to yours, but has some different colors. For the most part, their markings consist of stripes, spots, and odd facial markings. Almost every VG will have some sort of marking on it's face, many will have most of their faces covered. Eye markings are also common. Examples of uncommon markings are: Collar, Celestial Wing, and Spiral Eye. Rare Markings will be included into the Genetic Code.
