Toru
I couldn't find any names specific for samurai, so I decided to go with a Japanese name as I was the closest I could think of. Toru means both "penetrating" and "wayfarer", and I chose the name to target the second meaning. I love the sound of it as well; I think that it fits his personality in terms of sound just as much as in meaning.--------------------------------------------------------

The strong wind smashed into the newly born pup's skin, feeling to the pup as if someone was drumming him with hard stones. The cold was possibly even worse than the wind, and the blue-green grass whipped around his mother's scarred legs like it wanted nothing more than to grab onto them and pull them down under the soil.
Not exactly a great start to a newborn pup's life.
Why did his mom have to be so irresponsible and stupid? Heavily pregnant, she had went outside for an evening run despite the fact that she knew she would probably have pups within the next few days- or hours. Of course, when she was hours away from the Dens, she had gone into labor, and now had five newborn, weakened pups laying next to her feet while she stood against the freezing wind. One of them had already succumbed to the cold, and would never get up again. Another was close. The largest pup, whom the mother was cradling close to her legs, was the only one vaguely awake. Blind, terrified, and numb, but awake. He would hopefully last through the freezing night better than the other pups. If any of them made it through the night, that was.
The mother, Lekaina, set off another deafening howl across the plain. Nothing responded. Most of the other wolves were probably asleep at this time of night, and those awake would think it nothing more than a hunting call. The family was completely on their own.
The largest pup felt Lekaina grab onto the scruff of his neck, and carry him forward a few steps. Quickly, more pups were brought up to his area. The mother was slowly inching the remaining four pups towards the den, one by one.
The pup felt the minutes go by, turning into hours. The cold and wind didn't let up. If nothing else, it was getting worse and worse by the minute. The routine of being picked up and placed down in the grass to wait became monotonous. Worse yet, he could almost feel the life being slowly sucked out of him, his feelings getting weaker and more blurred by the minute.
About an hour into the process, two more pups had been left in the snow, their lives stolen by the cold. While the journey was much quicker now, Lekaina was ridden down with sadness and a loss of hope.
Another hour into the journey, and the caves were visible in the distance. Both of the pups were near-death, and Lekaina was losing hope. Carry. Drop. Carry. Drop. The cycle continued on.
Finally, Lekaina reached the opening of the cave. Instantly, she felt hope again. Two of her pups had survived, at the least. In the future, she wouldn't be so stupid. Lekaina decided from that moment on to be cautious, protective and a good parent towards her pups.
Looking down at the smaller pup, a small grey female, she whispered softly in its ear. "I shall name you Kasumi, meaning of the mist, for your pelt would blend so perfectly into the mist that you would be invisible." She then turned to the other pup.
"I shall name you Toru, meaning the wayfarer. From the way you so endured the night, I can see a great traveler in your soul. I cannot wait to see what you will become in your future."
With that, she curled up to sleep next to her pups, waiting out the night to see what the next day brought.

Toru watched as Kasumi struggled to walk to his side of the den, merely ten feet away from the opposite wall. She shuddered and collapsed next to him, obviously tired from the tiny exertion.
While Toru had grown, learnt to run, and become an ordinary Warrior child, Kasumi had trouble standing up. She had no end of defects, permanent disabilities, and was in constant pain. While others had convinced Lekaina that it was simply genetics and wasn't her fault at all, at least part of it had to be contributed to her early near-death experience out in the blistering cold. Kasumi was a constant reminder of Lekaina's irresponsibility, and it had nearly crushed her spirit. She was constantly out of the cave, trying to get it off of her mind. She was gone so often that Toru had been forced to learn how to take care of both himself and his sister, which was no easy task considering that he wasn't much more than a pup himself.
Toru, at least, had turned out well physically. He was very tall and lean, with long legs and a thin, fit body. From the moment he was born, he had been constantly alert, which hadn't changed at all. However, his mother was known, for good reason, to be irresponsible and stupid, while his father was deceased. His family didn't earn much respect, and the siblings were viewed more as an object of pity than potential warriors. However, they were still given food, and at least were alive and well. While it certainly wasn't an easy life, they were pushing through it. For now.

Toru slowly walked by his sister up out of the tunnels and into the turquoise grass covering the hillside by the entrance. A faint breeze whipped the fur around his ankles, and the smell of flowers filled the air. A group of teens about his age were mock-fighting each other, dressed in wooden armor. A few older wolves supervised them, shouting pointers and otherwise instructing them.
Training.
One of the instructors walked up to the group, her black fur held up in tufts by the wind. She looked over Kasumi critically, then turned to Toru. Her ears perked up as she saw a potential warrior.
"So you're one of the new teens? Great! Let's get you fitted up with some armor. I think I know a set that would fit you well." The fae barked, turning around to walk to what at first looked like a huge pile of wood. She pulled out some pieces from the pile, and started to put the armor on Toru. The wooden pieces fit perfectly, wrapping around his chest, legs and back as if they were hugging him. Something stirred in him, slightly, a wisp of energy that filled every part of his being. He was finally going to get his chance to act like a normal Warrior, to fight. To fight... to fight... for some reason, the word filled him with incredible joy, poured energy into his veins. He didn't know how to explain it, but he liked it.
"You ready?" the teacher asked him.
"Definitely." he replied, wagging his tail as he spoke.
"Then let's begin." The wolf grinned at Toru, guiding him over to an empty patch of grass.
For an hour or so, she coached him through battle techniques, testing every aspect of his strength and skill. Strangely enough, he enjoyed it. The previous night, he had almost had a panic attack, as he had thought of becoming a warrior as the inevitable but terrifying. It was almost as if putting on the armor had... changed him, twisted his personality until it was unrecognizable.
Oh well. He didn't care. He wanted to fight.
Finally, the wolf led him over to the group of other teens battling. They had obviously gotten here earlier. Toru lived in a cave very far from the entrance, so it took a long time to get to anywhere outside the dens. The teacher barked for one of the teens to come over- a blonde fae with blue markings. She looked at him with a bored stare, as if she had done this already twenty times today- which, of course, she probably had.
On the Warrior's mark, they started sparring.
The fae instantly leaped towards his throat, sending them both in a tumble through the grass. Toru quickly pushed her off of him, throwing her slightly into the air as he did so. She clambered to her feet, her face stuck in a snarl as she ran towards him again.
The two collided, paws locked as they tried to reach other and grab the other's open fur. Toru ducked under her belly, twisting around to try and reach the back of her exposed neck. Her fur was half an inch from his jaw's grasp when she darted from underneath him and turned to face his golden-eyed glare. They looked at each other for a second until the went at it again.
This time, when the fae dashed to meet him, Toru twisted to the side and grabbed her back leg in his jaws, which was unprotected by the simple training armor. Twisting it sharply but not hard enough to hurt her, she smashed to the ground, her teeth gritted in irritation. She tried to get up, but Toru put his paws on her chest. With his full weight, he was able to pin her down. Giving up, the fae went limp in submission, panting heavily from the exertion. The way she was lying reminded him of how his sister did when she-
He had completely forgotten about his sister.
"Kasumi!" he cried, looking around the meadow. He couldn't see her silver coat among the crowd. Wait... a small, silver wolf was wearing armor way too big for her at the edge of the meadow, a burgundy warrior pinning her down against the grass. It was definitely Kasumi. And her eyes were open in complete terror.
With no thought to it at all, Toru ran as fast as he could towards the enemy, his lips curled in a snarl. Tackling the other wolf with all the strength he could muster, he smashed into the ground with him and stood over him. Red pounded at the edge of his sight; he prepared for the kill.
"What on Isket are you doing, Toru?" One of the Warriors pulled him from the other, gripping him hard by his neck and slamming his face to the grass. "You nearly killed him! This is a training exercise, not the real thing! Do you have any idea what you're capable of?" The Warrior loomed over him, his red eyes filled with shock and anger. Toru looked back at him, slowly realizing what he had nearly done. What... why had he done that? Of course it was a training exercise. They'd never let anyone actually get hurt. The burgundy wolf wasn't an enemy; it was a fellow teen learning how to fight. Getting up to his feet, he clumsily pulled off his armor under the Warrior's gaze. As soon as it was off, he lost all urge to fight, to draw blood, to kill. He just wanted to get to his sister, who was now looking at him in shock.
The armor. The armor had done something to him.
(This is a work in progress.)

There wasn't a category for 'Armor Concept', so I decided to put it here. The armor has one transparent material in it; while it looks like glass (Well, it's supposed to. I'm not the best at drawing glass, so it looks like plastic but it isn't.) it's very sturdy and won't break in battle. I based it off of magma and fire, which is one of my favorite inspirations to use, so I did. ^^ The 'fire' was also inspired by his beautiful eyes. It represents the fiery change that his personality undergoes when he puts it on.
I apologize if it's similar to another set of armor somewhere out there; I've seen a lot of them, but not them all. I'll change it if it won't work out.

The WoI are in a constant war against the Kronadors, a race of chimera which looks like a hybrid between a horse and a reptile. Their war has been going on for many years, as neither of the races can outmatch the other.
All WoIs have armor. It was originally found by the UR WoIs, and is located in a cave deep in the forest. As part of a teen's job, they must go get their special armor from the cave. It's very dangerous and some don't make it back. Once they have their armor, they are considered a full WoI.
The WoIs live in the Dens, a massive network of tunnels. The Dens are a reddish-brown color, and it is very barren and high up in the mountains. The dens are made from a certain kind of mineral that doesn't erode very easily.
