Name: Rhango (Sort of a mix of Rhapsody and Ringo; music and one of my favorite names)
Gender: Male
Species: Smili
Personality: Rhango is rather solemn, and appears emotionless to strangers, but he gives subtle reactions or expressions that reveal his emotions and thoughts to those who know him well. He certainly isn't one of those "strong and silent" types, and actually prefers to talk over other forms of communication(although, it does seem rather monotone on the surface), but he does know when to hold his tongue.
Likes: He likes most foods and soft ground for dens as well as Smili that don't annoy him. He also likes music of all kinds and sometimes sneaks near human dwellings just to listen to it. Surprisingly, he likes sweets as well as meats and goes out of his way to find berry brambles or fruit trees sometimes.
Dislikes: He dislikes Smili that are egoistic, brave without reason, and Smili that are too clingy. He dislikes sour foods and thorns and uncomfortable ground for dens.
Background: Rhango was born to a rather large tribe of savanna-dwelling Smili. Their fur, rather than holding in heat, actually insulated them from the heat. In addition, they were not very active hunters; they hunted zebra and gazelle and giraffes by climbing tall trees and pouncing on them from above. In addition, his particular tribe did not travel with the herds; they had no need to. They made their homes in a grove next to the only waterhole for miles. They only hunted often enough to eat comfortably in order to make sure the herds would not be too scared to come back to that particular waterhole. They had food almost all year around except for a small portion of winter when the herds would settle down somewhere else in order to make their dens for spring.
When Rhango was born, it was a night of celebration. The moon was full and the trees were in bloom. It was spring and the hunting season was beginning once more. His mother celebrated with the rest of the tribe but soon went into labor. Once he was born, the celebration began anew for both spring and the newly born cub. Rhango's father celebrated the birth with the tribe and his mother smiled in joy and vowed that she would not allow this one die.
Several weeks later, Rhango had opened his eyes and after spending those weeks within the den being carefully cared for, he was beginning to explore outside the den. His mother took him to the waterhole to play when there were no herds to scare away and taught him to climb the surrounding trees when the herds were there.
He would also play with the other cubs. There were still some who had not opened their eyes yet so he couldn't play with them, but there were some who were the same age as he and they played tag and hide and seek and wrestled and all sorts of games that taught them how to use their natural abilities.
Whether it was after playing, helping around the tribe, morning, noon or night, Rhango would eat and eat and eat as long as there was extra food that he was allowed to eat. He loved food and once he was old enough, he would sometimes hunt extra just to eat a bit more. He also discovered that he liked fruits and that made him very happy. None of the other Smili in his tribe liked them, so he could eat all the fruits he wanted without bothering anyone or depriving the tribe of extra food.
Once he grew older, he grew out of his childish chattering and playfulness. He became serious about many things, but still found joy in activities or other people. He wasn't emotionless by far, but many of the Smili in his tribe interpreted his behavior as such.
When one fall came around, Rhango decided to leave his tribe to search for a mate and settle down with his own family. He did not know if he would return to his tribe with his mate or if he would enter hers, or if they would start an individual family on their own. He liked the notion of his future being undecided and said his goodbyes to his mother and father and the few friends he had, and then was on his way.
He had never learned what had lay beyond the borders of the savanna, as his living relatives and the rest of his tribe had not left the waterhole in a very long time. He decided the best solution was to travel so that he would have the least heat for the longest period of time possible. As such, he traveled at night against the sun from west to east and rested during the day. Rhango became temporarily nocturnal.
He traveled very far and for a very long time, and not once did he meet another Smili. He had seen buildings of towns and cities, and wondered if there might be some there, but it smelled so bad that he kept as far from them as possible. Just as he began to wonder if there were
really other Smili, he came to an enormous body of water. The sight of it awed him and he knew from then that there must be other places that are different from his home, where other Smili might live.
He turned north and traveled along the coast, admiring things he came across such as shells and crabs and a multitude of other such things.
He traveled and traveled, and eventually became very bored with traveling. He decided the land was far too big, but did not give up. When he came to another body of water(now there was one in front of him as well as to his right), he nearly gave up. But he saw the faint outlines of land on the other side. Rhango became ecstatic. He turned west and continued, running for as long as he could and walking when he could not run.
Several days later, he came the water(now to his right) ended and land extended. He quickly ran across it and on onto the land across the expanse of water.
He traveled further into the strange land, and turned north again. The nights were beginning to get colder, but Rhango found that he didn't mind. In fact, the cold rather gave him energy and spurred him on. His heart rose with the anticipation of meeting new Smili as he continued north, but he ran into another body of water. Dismayed, but not discouraged, he turned east and traveled with the edge of the water. Around he traveled and he found himself facing north once more. Onward he went!
EpilogueRhango had yet to find other Smili, but little did he know; he was getting very close to Russia. In this snowy country, there were more tribes of Smili than anywhere else in the world aside from Greenland and north Canada. he would continue, and eventually, he would meet a tribe of Smili and in that tribe, Rhango would find his mate. While they may or may not live happily ever after, this is the end of his travels and the end of this story.
((DONE! And I have a couple notes that might make his traveling make a little more sense. ^^; ))
TRAVELING NOTE: The savanna tribe lived somewhere in mid-Africa and Rhango traveled East to the Indian Ocean(when he came to that enormous expanse of water) and then north to the Gulf of Aden. (Never mind the strait between the Gulf and the Red Sea, because I didn't put that in this. :/) From there, he went Northeast along the Red Sea (that was when he could see the outline of land across the expanse of water) to that bit of land that connects Africa to Asia. He went through there and around the Mediterranean Sea and then north through Syria and Turkey and ran into the Black Sea. He went East around it and then north along the coast and then into Russia between Ukraine and Kazakhstan.
((lol, I was looking at a globe the whole time I was writing this in order to get it correct. Considering I don't live anywhere NEAR Africa and/or Asia. XD))
