You can get rid of the lines by moving the layers around so that the puppy layers are above the mom and dad layers. Just click on a layer and drag it up the list. A thick black line will appear where the layer will be placed when you let go of the mouse.

Will keep 1, 4 & 6 then ^^ You keeping the rest? Oh, and moving the layers should hopefully fix the problem, if not, check the layers type is set to "normal" on the layers box. I found it was on "multiply" or something on mine once, and this same problem happened
