Flent {fl - ent} is the singular and plural form when referring to flent. The "toddlers" {As humans would call them} are called fawns, the age to call them that is from zero to nine years. Then they become flent.

- Long, slender snout for the most keen scent around

- Long legs for swift running and quick escapes

- Fur that sheds in the spring but grows in in the fall for harsh winters
- Claws {You can't see them} for climbing trees and jumping from one to another
- Long bushy tail that helps to camouflage and appear as grass
- Omnivores that eat small mammals, insects, and their veggies as well. They love fruit also
- Relatively common colors {brown, black, grey, etc.} but most usually have bright highlights that blend with flowers and such
-history-
Once the kings of the forest, they feared no one. They lived with fear in some creatures and lived in large, well organized herds. But then a human captured a fawn, and fell in love with their fur. They started bringing big dogs and guns and killing them for their fur.
The few left alive retreated to the deepest, hidden forests where no human could never make it there. They managed to repopulate, but now don't risk living in herds. The females live with their fawns until the age of nine, then they break off on their own. Males visit females in the late fall for mating season but then leave them on their own to raise the fawns. Because of their slow breeding rate it is hard for them to regain population they once had. But slowly, they are managing.
The humans who do manage are kind, and care about them. They want them to join them in their human lives and live happily, they want them to succeed in the wild, but they want one in their own lives as well. Will one of them choose you?
-habitat-
The flent live in the deepest forests. Near waterfalls or streams for freshwater. You'll never find them on the plains, and rarely together. Their large habitat allows them to have plenty of room for territory, as the males are very territorial, and have plenty of prey and herbs for each flent to live.
You'll rarely see them together, only a mother and her fawn{s} or a male and female in mating season. Since the females can only mate every ten years {Nine for the fawn to grow and one to... Re-energize.} the males may get bored and roam, looking for new, better territory.
You'll only catch them in a clearing at night, and then it's in the deep grass that you can't even see their ears in searching for bugs and plants.
In the winter snow months they don't hibernate, they refrain to warm dens part of the time, but usually at night they will go out and eat something. Whatever they can find. Their thick fur helps them stay warm in the snow.
-personality-
Most flent are a bit fiery, having a short temper. But they can be the sweetest creatures you've ever laid your eyes on. Just don't upset them. Before the humans hunted them they would never get angry, the most patient, calm, and understanding. But that all changed. Now it's easy to upset them and they don't tolerate a lot. But they rarely ever fight with one another, as they hardly ever see another flent.
Flent love to hunt, they love to run, but most of all, they love to swim. They are excellent fishers and can stay under water for about a minute at a time.

Flent do not mate permanently. After mating in the late fall, the males leave, the females give birth in early Spring. The males don't return. The mothers keep their fawns for nine years until they are developed enough to live on their own. Then they stay alone for one year, the next fall, they mate again.
The only time you will ever see flent together is a mother and fawn{s} or a male and female in fall. On their eleventh year females can give birth and males can reproduce. The maximum fawns born is two. One is common and twins happens to about every one out of five females. The females typically produce three to four offspring in their lifetime. Unless they have twins each time, then they would have six to eight fawns in a lifetime.
Orphans usually die off, if their mother is killed or dies with birth. But sometimes young females on their tenth year will adopt it and raise it as their own. Though it will be tiny because it never had milk. Another thing that can save orphans is if a female has a fawn and it dies, whether something takes it or it was just born with something wrong with it, and the mother of the dead fawn finds the orphaned one it will take it in and raise it with more protection. Typically, if a female has a fawn and it dies, she becomes infertile and can never have her own fawn{s} again.
-growth and development-
Born about the size of a kitten fawns are tiny. They take about a year to start walking and it's necessary to move them around often so they don't get eaten or killed.
At the age of nine they break away from their mother and become their own flent. On their eleventh fall both females and males become able to produce offspring.
As a fawn, they are curious and mischevious. They get into everything and romp and play. They don't have to have a sibling to play with. They can have fun on their own. Just after they start walking they learn to swim and it comes somewhat naturally. At the age of two they can catch fish on their own and swim better than any human could ever dream of.
