Kennel Number Thirty-eight ;; K.N. 38As soon as word got out that Spotty had submitted new babies to the Pound of Hope, I eagerly rushed to view the new batch of beautiful pups. My eyes ran over the first few designs; they were simply beautiful but just didn't say "oh my god, this character is amazing!', and I knew here I would find a darling that would fit my desires. When my eyes first fell on the beautiful creature in kennel number thirty-eight, I literally gasped with delight because she was JUST the kind of character I love. She is simple yet perfectly designed and eye-catching. Trinity has been on my mind since I first say her. I hope that I can call the amazing creature of kennel thirty-eight mine someday.

Yes, she's an amazing girl

I honestly loved this girl from the moment I saw her. She is perfect, her her hair to her markings. I love everything about her. She reminds me so much of my best friend. She's tough but kind, fun to be with, and not afraid to be herself. Trinity is one of those characters that comes once in a lifetime. She would be right up there with my little Umiko, maybe even higher. Trin would be showered in art. Seriously. It would never end. I would extend her life story with a sequel and even rp with her. I really just love her that much. She's just such an amazing animal.
Even though I'm not an artist, I'm willing to do whatever it takes to make this wonderful girl mine. She is perfect in everyway, and would have the absolute perfect home with me at my character thread, at my rps, at my word documents, and in my heart. The love wouldn't stop. Her design speaks to me. I would even be willing to put aside time from my busy days to sit down and improve my art styles to draw for her. I could pixel, sketch, and sumopaint. Every drop of effort. I'm willing to give it for her. I've never felt this way about any other character I've ever seen, and I mean that from the bottom of my heart.

“That's her.” A slender black she-wolf murmured, peering down at a small, pale brown she-pup nestled against her mother, along with her three litter-mates. “I know, Night.” a dark gray male sat beside her, the silver stars embedded in his fur glittering in the moonlight. “This is the one called Trinity. And the black pup is Apollo. One day, they will have to battle each other.”
The she-wolf nodded. “As the Wolf Spirit of bravery, I shall guide this young pup through the destiny she must fulfill and the dangers she will face.” she gestured to Trinity. The male spoke again, but to the she-pup. “Yes. One day, young pup, you will be a leader.”
Another voice spoke. “Have you found her?” A huge golden male wolf emerged from a bush. “Yes, Mist.” Night murmured. “This is the she-wolf who will one day create and lead her own pack. But we believe we must test her loyalty. This black pup beside her will one day lead their current pack. Trinity will have to choose to hand over her territory to her family, or keep it for her pack.” Mist nodded in agreement. He looked down at the pup. “Sleep now, little one. One day, you will be a great leader and make us all proud.”

I sat only a few feet away from the stream, looking at my reflection in the silent ripples. Stirring the water with my paw, the wolf in the stream vanished, and I thought about what my mother, Nanuka, had told me about this place. When you die, she had said, your spirit will join the brook that runs through our land. I wondered how many wolves I had just touched, while mixing the swirling water. I rolled over onto my back so that I could feel the lush, soft grass press against my pale brown fur, and sighed, looking at the sky.
The clouds rolled across the blue, blocking some sun, then releasing it. Sniffing the air, I could tell that there would be storm, and my pack had to hunt. We had very little meat left on carcass that Codiac and Apollo had caught a few days ago.
Knowing that I would be needed, I heaved myself up from my relaxing position and headed back though the trees. I saw several tiny animals scuttling along beside my paws, and I managed to kill 3 birds and a snake. Not much, but it could supply the new mothers with food while the rest of us hunted.
The forest sort of opened up, into a clearing, but the trees still hung overhead like a roof, protecting us from rain or other harmful weather. They had started to moan in the wind, which became stronger. As I suspected, the pack was already lined up and ready to leave. Picking up my pace, I trotted across the camp and fell into step with Apollo, my older brother. My other brother Blitz was farther ahead, next to my friend, Rykua, and another she-wolf, Yanixa. The alpha of the pack, Tanaki, looked back at us from the front of the clearing, near the tunnel that led back into the forest. He was most eager of us all to bring back some meat, for his mate Quilina, who needed to feed his craving pups, Thistle and Crystal. He barked, signaling us to follow. Out in the thick forest, heavy mist clung in the air, as if trapped in the leafy canopy. The aroma of elk flooded into my nostrils, and Tanaki stopped, as did the pack. Nodding at us, he and the betas, Codiac and Dakota raced off a different direction. The others and I turned and twisted through the trees' branches until we broke out of the dense forest. Meadow stretched across the land, and drinking from the clear mountain brook was the herd of elk. They looked so peaceful that it hurt my heart to think that we had to kill them. But my growling stomach convinced me that I had too. Stalking silently into the open, I leaped, high into the air, and landed perfectly on the back of a small female, who reared up and whinnied in frightened surprise. Trying desperately to through me off, the elk pranced wildly around, and I had to bite my lower lip to keep from laughing. I had to admit, this female was making a total fool of herself, acting like a bucking-bronco. I needed to concentrate, I realized , if I wanted to catch anything. Digging my claws into the elk's back, I sliced through her thin skin, and ripped her back open, splattering warm scarlet blood all over the grass.
The animal yelped in pain, and me, with my soft heart, quickly shot my claws into her throat and killed her. I knew most wolves probably loved to see their prey suffer, but I can't stand seeing any creature be agonized, so I try to get it over with as fast as possible. Looking around, I could see that Codiac and Dakota were helping Tanaki drag a blood-stained body across the field. Together, the three of them had killed the main bull. They made a good team, though I could tell that Tanaki missed hunting with Quilina. Rykua and Blitz, along with Apollo were lifting another cow onto their backs, along with her young calf. The other elk had fled.
We hardly said a word on our way back to camp, probably because our mouths were full with bloody fur. But when we arrived to the clearing Tanaki padded to the cliff-like boulder that jutted out of the forest floor. “Well done, everyone! You all deserve a good meal. Eat up.” He smiled, springing down from the ledge and trotting enthusiastically to the den where Quilina and Shaysta nursed their small pups. I followed eagerly, clamping my jaws onto the enormous bull's leg. Inside I could see Quilina nuzzling her beautiful ginger muzzle into Tanaki's fur. Returning the greeting, my leader turned and cuddled her and the pups. I dropped the meat at Tanaki's paws, dipping my head. “Why, thank you, Trinity.” Quilina barked, thankfully. She thrust her muzzle into the flesh of the leg, as did Tanaki. While the two of them ate, I silently admired the tiny pups that were curled up so tightly, next to their mothers. Crystal held her puny little white head up, trying hard to open her eyes;I caught a quick glimpse of her piercing blue, so much like Quilina's eyes. Thistle was busily suckling on the warm milk that flowed into his mouth, this eyes shut and a contented smile on his face.
On the other side of the den, Spider sat, licking Kishi's fluffy gray pup fur while Shaysta devoured another elk leg hungrily. Staring down at Kishi, whimpering softly, a strange image flashed through my mind. Me. With a mate. And pups. And a pack. I shook my head, trying to clear it. What was that? Was that my future?
I didn't know what to make of what I had just seen. Suddenly I felt very tired, as if someone was pushing large weights onto my shoulders. Leaving the the mothers to eat in peace, I choked down a small chunk of meat into my uneasy stomach and hurried into the hunters' den.
Laying my head on my paws, I struggled to make sense of my vision, but all I did was give my self a head ache. How would anything I saw ever really happen to me? Maybe it was a mistake. “Kinda early to be going to bed, don't you think, sis?” Immediately alert, I turned to see Apollo's amber eyes flash from the darkness, his lithe black shape hidden in the shadows. “I guess.” I mumbled, not looking at him.
“Anything wrong?”
“I was looking at the pups, and then something weird happened. I saw this image in my head, but so clearly it seemed real. I had a mate, pups, and I was the alpha female of a pack.” I finished.
“Well , it sounds like a prophecy to me.” My brother barked thoughtfully.
“A prophecy?”
“Yah. You should go ask Mom about it.” Apollo suggested.
That was a great idea, I decided. My mother was an elder, and she was one of the wisest in the pack. Surely she could tell me what my vision meant.
“Thanks, Apollo! You're a genius!”
He smirked. “I know, I know.”
Racing out of my den and across the clearing, I shot right into my mom, chewing on a bone left over from the bull carcus. Shaking her head, she laughed. “Trinity, what's the rush?”
I explained my 'prophecy' to her, and she nodded.
“The wolf spirits have contacted you, my pup. You are destined to lead your own pack.”
“So, you mean I have to leave?”
“You don't have to. But if it was me, I would follow my destiny.”
I knew what I had to do. Clawing myself up onto high rock, I barked to Tanaki, telling him I had something important to say.
“I am prophesied leave and lead my own pack!” I yipped enthusiastically.
Tanaki looked up with sad but serious eyes.
“Is this what you want, Trinity?” he asked solemnly.
“More than anything.” I declared.
“Very well. We will miss you.”
Tears welled up in my eyes. “Good bye, everyone!” I sobbed. “I'll never forget any of you!” Nuzzling each of them, I hurried out of my camp and into the damp, dark forest. Taking a deep breath, I forced myself to think clearly. My life had ended as a hunter. And began as an alpha female.

Dark shadows loomed above me, blocking out the moon, the only light I had. I missed my family dreadfully, but I knew that I must follow my destiny. I hadn't stopped walking since last night, when I left. By now, my stomach was growling almost louder than I could, so I decided to stop for a hunting break. Well, I found out quickly that it isn't easy to hunt alone. I would be killed easily if I tried to catch some more elk, because wolves hunt in packs, and since I didn't have one yet, I didn't know what to do. It was so late, and I was exhausted, so I lay down in a soft bed of moss, protected by a thick canopy of bushy green leaves. Gentle gusts of wind kept rustling my fur, keeping me awake, and my mattress of greenery felt uncomfortable, too different from my nest back home. Home. I missed it so much. But this is were you belong, I urged myself. So, closing my eyes, I drifted into a restless sleep, the branches clattering like bones above my head.
Opening my eyes, I could see that I was in some strange place. It was different than any place that I'd ever seen, no trees, no bushes, no forest. I was laying across something hard and rough. Above me, a large shadow stood, starring down with a twisted, angry snarl plastered across his face. He seemed enormous and I felt pinned down, unable to move above from his beady, terrifying eyes.
He took a thin black tube out of his belt and pointed it at me. His face contorted into a sinister smile. My ears flattened against my skull, and I mustered enough strength to heave myself up and begin to run, my lithe body a ribbon of constant motion as I fled. His hard boots followed me, the black tube threatening to shoot. Finally, the boom sounded. I fell to the ground. I was dead.I woke up drenched in a cold sweat. My whole body was shivering, and I sighed with relief when I found myself under the trees in the mossy bed I had fallen asleep in. My weak limbs stretched out and my stomach growled. Determined to learn to feed my pack, I got up swiftly and began to search the underbrush. A frail rabbit filled me enough to satisfy me for now. But I had to be off again, hoping to find hope, and reach my destiny. But the small carcass didn't hold me for long. I soon had no choice but to let my tired body fall into another deep sleep.
~~~~
My sleep was dreamless this time, so I was able to get a good rest, though I must have tossed and turned a lot, because there was 3 burrs caught in my pelt when I woke. Flicking my ears, I peered around, observing my surroundings carefully. Everything was quiet, except for the occasional twitter of a bird from above. The bright sunlight dappled the ground like honey, and there was a calm breeze rustling the leaves; the beautiful day improved my mood. I yawned and stretched, then padded out my make-shift den, perking my ears for any signs of prey. A young fawn, accompanied my its mother, were nibbling on the grass in a near-by clearing, oblivious to me as I stalked them silently from behind. Once I was at just the right spot......
“Rah!” I leaped out of the bush onto the mother's back. Her frightened yelp was cut short and a sank my teeth into her neck. The fawn had fled back into the dense forest, invisible to the eye, or I would've killed it, too. Happily, I unearthed my fangs from the does flesh, and dove into my meal. “Maybe the Wolf Spirits were right.” I thought as warm meat slid into my stomach. “I can find food.” I gulped down a last mouthful and lay out on the lush, soft grass. It tickled the fur on my back, and I sighed wistfully, wishing I would always be this care-free. But my happy thoughts didn't last long.
Suddenly, a near-by shrub shook, and a beautiful white she-wolf burst from it, her whole body trembling, and her pelt stained with blood. She held a tiny white pup in her jaws. At first I was to shocked to talk, but I soon manage to gasp, “Who are you?”
“My name is Lioki.” she murmured, her voice shaking. A deep growl sounded from only a few wolf-lengths behind, but the creature who had uttered it was was hidden by thick greenery. Lioki yelped with fright, and turned to me, her eyes wide.
“Please help me!” she whimpered, looking frantically back at the bush in which she had emerged. “That grizzly bear! He's trying to eat my son!”
~~~~
Moments after Lioki had spoken, an enormous grizzly tore through the shrub, claws and teeth bared. Its beady amber eyes darted around, searching for the frightened she-wolf's pup. His wild gaze swept over me, then Lioki, and until finally it found the pup. Giving a horrible snarl, it lunged, swinging its claws at Lioki.
“Run!” I screamed, knowing we had no chance in defeating it. Lioki didn't hesitate bolting forward. I followed, my eyes wide and frightened. But the bear was to quick. It seized the mother, who was still clinging to her pup. Panic gripped me. They were going to die id I didn't do something! Suddenly, without thinking, I turned and ran back to them. Then, with all the strength that I had, shot forward and butted the bear hard in the stomach with my head. Gasping in surprise, the bear let go of Lioki and she leaped to the ground, unharmed.
“Go!” I urged them in a whisper as the grizzly began to regain his breath. Shaking his huge head, the furious bear swung his thick arm at me, knocking me into a small river near by. Just then, an idea hit me like lightning. This river had to go somewhere. Before the bear could strike me again, I romped up stream, with my enemy close behind. Yup, I was right. The water was getting faster. Excited that my theory was correct, I continued to bound forward. Peering to my left, I could see streaks of white pelting through the forest, and I knew Lioki was running beside me. A sudden roaring make me stop in my tracks. Just as I suspected, a waterfall was up ahead. Veering a quick right, I dove out of the water and clung to a large fallen tree that was wedged across the river. Clawing myself onto the damp tree, I watched as the bear flung is paws helplessly in the now-deep water. He was just about to go down when... 'Crash!'
I was lurched forward. The bears had slammed his heavy claws down on the tree. I could feel myself falling as the the old oak began to float towards the falls. Suddenly, a flash of red fur whizzed by; I saw a large male wolf beside me. He shoved me hard with his head and I flew off the log, landing on the mossy bank. I had hit my head; the male digging his claws into the bears think paws was a blur, but then I saw something that snapped me awake. I ran to the edge of the water falls, screaming, just in time to see the tree slide down the falls, carrying the bear and the strange male with it.
~~~~
“No!” I yowled, but all I could see was the endless fall of water. Lioki emerged from the brush and placed her pup down on the ground.
“Who was that?” she asked as her son began to whimper. “I don't know.” I replied frantically. “But he fell down the waterfall!” Leaving Lioki and her whining pup, I scampered down the steep cliff and onto the banks of the pool below.
“Hello?” I called, but no one answered. Suddenly, an enormous mass of brown fur floated to the surface. The bear appeared to be dead, though I couldn't be sure. I began to wade into the water, calling out to the wolf. Another flash of red caught my eye. There he was! His bright fur stood out against the dull brown sand of the bank that he lay on. I raced over immediately and began checking his fur. There appeared to be no blood or wounds. What I did notice was, he was awful handsome. Prodding him with my nose, I whisper, “Are you alright?” He stirred, then let out a long, mournful groan. “Are you alright?” I asked again, louder this time. He heaved himself to his feet, and shook his head. “I think so.” he murmured.
“What happened?” “You fell off the waterfall.” I said back, eyes full of sympathy. He shook his head again. “Come back up here with me.” I told him, and helped up to where Lioki was sitting, looking worried. “
Now.” he said, sitting down next to her. “What happened again?” Once he fully understood, I told him and Lioki about my destiny to be an alpha. “I would be honored to be a member of your pack.” Lioki told me. “After all, you saved me, and my son.” “Count me in, too.” the male replied. “By the way, my name's Jake.”
“Great.” I smiled at them. “Thanks so much.” We continued down the slope, stopping only to eat some elk carcass that the bear must have started on. Then I directed us into another forest, and once again we began our journey. Me, and the Pack.
~~~~
The sun had risen and fallen in the sky many times before Jake, Lioki and I had found a place to stay. The cave was small, dug from the hard layers of rock and dirt from a nearby cliff. The inside was dark and slightly damp but comfortable after we'd dragged in the bedding. Lioki and her pup had to remain in the den while Jake and I hunted for us. It was hard but the challenges payed off for sure. So far, being Alpha Trinity was great! A dream come true.
Jake and I were on the scent of a lone, eldery elk when we heard something that froze our bones. A shrill scream poured from the mouth of the cave.
“Lioki!” I yowled, throwing myself into the cave. The white she-wolf was pinned down to the floor by a large brown wolf with piercing green eyes. Her sides heaved with the effort of holding the wriggling mother to them ground. “Give me food!” she growled, though her voice was masked with exhaustion.
“Stop!” I boomed, and the she-wolf froze, and, seeing that she was clearly out-numbered, began to back away. I turned to Jake. “Help Lioki and her pup.” I told him.
“Who are you, and why are you attacking my beta?”
“Beta?” Lioki barked, surprised.
“I-i, I'm Alaroo.” the wolf whimpered. “I'm starving and needed food, and I though she might have some.”
I nodded. “So. Hunger drove you into doing this.” I concluded.
“Yes.”
“Alright then.”
“Please, may I join your...pack?” she pleaded at Lioki (who I had just decided would be the beta female) and Jake (who I hoped would someday be the alpha male).
“Yes.” I said again. “T-thank you.” she whispered, then collapsed on the ground. I noticed that she was very thin; her bones were showing. But at one part of her body, she was very plump. Then it hit me. That's why she was so weak hungry! She was going to have pups!
“Alaroo.” I murmured quietly in her ear. “Are you expecting pups?” She nodded, slowly, her eyes closing. “Well, they're coming soon!” I realized that was why she suddenly dropped.
“Help her!” I yelped to Jake and Lioki. “They're coming now!” Alaroo moaned; she began to bleed. “Push!” I urged her. She gave a shuddering heave, and a small pup plopped out.
“Here.” I gave it to Jake. “Lick it!”
“Oooowwwww....” Alaroo groaned and two more pups came out. “Lick!” I ordered.
“Last one!” I promised the she-wolf as she gave another enormous shudder. A very tiny pup slid out, and Lioki quickly applied the cob webs. Her bleeding quickly slowed, and I hurried over to her with some elk meat. She gobbled it down, and whined for more.
Alaroo ate a whole leg before she stopped whimpering. Her pups suckled contently, as she slept. “Who knew that she was pregnant.” I muttered to them. “But look! We've got four perfects pups, and future warriors of the pack!” There were three males and one female; all of the males looked exactly like their mother with dark brown furs and bright green eyes. The female, however, was pale gray with amber eyes; I suspected that she took the look of her father.
Alaroo suddenly stirred. Lioki was by her side in a minute. “How are you feeling?” she whispered, obviously not grudging against the she-wolf, though she had tried to kill her. Alaroo smiled warmly. “Fine, thanks to you all,” she murmured, looking down at her pups. “I had now idea that they were coming this soon. I'm so glad to be a member of your pack.” Sighing softly, she lay down her head, as did Jake and Lioki, and fell fast asleep. Lioki's son, who looked quite large compared to the new arrivals, snuggled his head into his mother's fur. Looking up at the stars, I knew that the Wolf Spirits were right about me being a leader. And if this was always how it felt, I was so glad that the chose me.
