Announcement: I've been in and out of the hospital lately and so haven't had much time to do my PoH work. I'm okay, but it will take me some time to finish looking at Crit Staff applications and editing forms. I appreciate everyone's patience.
Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

Breed:
Jack Russell Terrier

.:ρhуѕіςαι:.
General Description:
Like others of her breed, Lyla is a medium sized canine, slightly larger than most Jack Russells. Her pelt is mostly a striking white accented with a pale black blanket on her haunches, ruff and paw. This same understated black accents her eye, bringing out their pale color. Dark grey tribal markings grace her shoulders, and stripes mark her hind ankle and her front shoulder. She also sports a small ring in her lower lip.

.:Rειατiσηshiρ:.
Secret Crush(es):
None
Mate:
Kossmo
Devotion Level:
Very high

.:іη Dερτh:.
Personality:

Dominant Character Trait:

Lyla is one of the most energetic canines most have ever met. It is extremely hard for this female to stand still for any real period of time, however she can if she tries hard enough. Despite this energy, Lyla tries not to annoy people, although sometimes she just can't seem to help herself.

Secondary Character Trait:
Lyla is incredibly friendly and open towards others, especially those who can tolerate her high energy levels. It is rather easy for her to make acquaintances, however she does have some issues letting those relationships go any deeper. This is not because she is shy, instead it is hard for Lyla to trust others, despite her lack of pain in her past.

How does he interact with others:
Because of how friendly she is, Lyla loves to be around people, although she does tend to be a bit shy around large crowds. She loves the sounds of laughter, and will do anything to make someone laugh, unless it is at her own expense. She does not mind loud people, however she hates loud sudden sounds. While she has never actually bitten anyone, Lyla does tend to be a bit snappy if she is startled.

Sees Self As:
Lyla sees herself as a perfectly focused, hard working dog who is part of the family. She does not believe she is just a pet, in fact she feels she is human just like the rest of her family. She believes she needs to eat like people do, and will often turn her nose up at dog kibble.

Is Seen By Others As:
Determined and energetic are often to two main words people say when asked about Lyla. It is obvious that she does not see herself as a canine, which many find amusing. No one has anything negative to say about this female, even when they take into consideration her energy levels.

Sense of Humor:
Lyla's sense of humor is rather complicated, especially for a dog. She loves to play tricks on other dogs and get them into trouble, and she has a bad habit of weaving around her owners' legs to make them trip and sometimes fall. She will alwaus be amused at someone else's distress, but never at her own.

Temper:
Lyla is a terrier, and she does have the terrier temper. She does not tolerate children well, and is a bit snappy with them, especially those who grab onto her and do not give her the room she needs. She also does not tolerate other dogs that well, and has been known to start fights, however constant training has begun to curb this tendency in her.

Basic Nature:
Don and Kellie Rainwater wrote:It's important to note that above all, the Jack Russell Terrier is a working Terrier, a breed of dog specifically bred to perform specific tasks. The entire reason for the Jack Russell's existence is to run, hunt, chase and flush out fox and other animals. They were specifically breed to perform this task aggressively throughout England. It's the excitement and rush of the hunt that can be credited for the infamous personality and temperament of the Jack Russell.
Part of this breeding has ingrained a very vocal personality and penchant for barking in the breed. This is not a "nuisance" but a desirable trait that is supposed to be represented in the breed in order to do the job it was designed for. The reason that a vocal nature is necessary in the Jack Russell is so that hunters could find the dog during the excitement of the hunt. The Jack Russell quite routinely was placed at the front of the pack and was meant to run far ahead of the other hounds and hunters.
While in pursuit of its prey the Jack Russell is rarely concerned about the location of its owner and can often find himself well beyond viewing range of the hunt party. If a Jack Russell were to chase the game away and not communicate with a series of loud barks, not only would the hunting party not know where the dog is, but they wouldn't know where the dog had located its prey at; they would have no idea in which way to go or where to find their game.

Habits:
Lyla, like most terriers, loves to chase small animals. This is in fact her favorite thing to do, and she can most often be found chasing squirrels and moles around in her yard. When she isn't chasing something, Lyla is usually digging holes in the yard, often times under her fence to get out. She also has a tendency to bark for hours, just to hear her voice.

Talents:
She is extremely adept at digging, and can do so very quickly. It also seems like Lyla has springs in her back legs, giving her the ability to leap very high, straight up into the air with little to no effort.

Likes:
Chasing small animals
Her people
Digging
Barking

Dislikes:
Other dogs
Being told what to do
Being denied digging

History:
"I'm not going to bore you with the story of my birth and raising. There is nothing interesting about that. However, I will tell you how I got my tattoos and my lip ring. Those are some rather interesting stories.

Just as a little bit of background information, I was my mother's only daughter. I was also her only pure white pup. You may think this made her dislike me, but she didn't care what color I was. I did though, so as soon as I was old enough, I left to be on my own. Many weeks and messes later, I found Kossmo. Or well...he found me. I was covered in motor oil and grease, and he washed it off, but parts of my fur were already stained. Oh well, I finally had markings. However, I wanted more. I wanted markings that would set me apart from every other dog in this little town. I knew Kossmo had the ability to generate ink from his pointed tail, so I asked him if he would give me some markings. His reply was that he would, however I had to earn them first. At first I was confused. Earn them? Why did I have to earn them? Didn't I already deserve them? After a few moments, I decided to just try and do what he'd said. Try to earn my spots, so to speak. It didn't take as long as I thought it would before I earned the first one, the set of markings on my front shoulder.

Kossmo and I were out foraging for food together, something we've done so many times I find it easy to adjust to his more subdued nature. Anyway, we were getting pretty close to this cat when I heard a human scream followed by the sounds of a struggle. Without even thinking about it, I bolted in the direction of the scream, following my ears until I saw them. A group of young adults was assaulting a little girl, all for the few dollars she had in her hand! With a low growl, I flung myself into the fray, sinking my teeth into the thigh of one of the boys. He screeched and tried to get me off, but my grip was perfect. Finally I let go and he ran off, leaving me alone with the girl. Before she could reach out and touch me, I ran off, right into Kossmo. The tip of his tail dripped with dark ink, and his eyes shone. 'You've earned one.' was all he said before touching that tail to my shoulder. The pain was terrible as the ink sank beneath my skin and set up, but that pain quickly faded. The markings were very clean, very pretty and very permanent.

The next markings came out of nowhere, and I still don't know what I did to deserve them. Kossmo and I were relaxing in the sunlight when he suddenly sat up and flicked his tail, showing me the ink once more. We'd been together for a year at this point, so I was used to his odd ways, but this was different. He quickly marked my hind leg and added the rings that grace my shoulder and my ankle before flopping back down next to me as if nothing had happened. The last marking, the little female symbol on my inner paw, was given to me after I agreed to be with him as his mate. Because of that, this tiny marking is my favorite one.

The lip ring came two months after I agreed to be Kossmo's mate. That one was my decision. You see, Kossmo has this ring around his tail, something he is very proud of. I wanted something similar, so I began looking for a ring wide enough to fit my own tail. In my search, I came across a large, cat-like creature who had horns and an odd aura floating behind him. When I told him what I was looking for, he held up a small ring with a single claw. 'How about a lip ring?' After I agreed, the cat-like creature, who I later learned was an Ahzenai, quickly clean one razor sharp claw before punching it through my lip and sliding the ring through. It hurt for a while, but it healed up nicely, and is now one of my favorite features.

I figure that's all you really want to know about what happened to me, as the rest is not unusual in the slightest. So with that, I will take my leave."

The day dawned cold and snowy, like most did in these winter months. However, the cold air could not pierce the spirits of the small canine as she made her way through the sleeping city, her eyes bright. Although it didn't harm her high spirits, she knew the cold could easily claim her life if she didn't find shelter for the storm she could smell coming. Picking up her pace, the Jack Russell broke into a smooth lope, her ears tilted towards a hollowed out couch that lay forgotten on the outside of an old apartment building. However, another scent reached her as she neared it and she slowed, feeling her emotions drop slightly. As she turned to leave, a voice came from the inside of the couch. "You can stay here with me. I'm sure you can smell the storm the same way I can."

I am looking to adopt...

"Life is what you make of it. Always has been, always will be."

Image

"Fortune favours the brave."

Kennel number:
P90
Name:
Midnight
Breed:
Canis Lupus Avianis
Winged Wolf
∞ Shadow ∞ wrote:Canis Lupus Avianis are a cross between the dire wolf, grey wolf, and a mix of large birds including the condor, eagle, hawk, and owl. The prehistoric dire wolf gives its size and hearing abilities, the CLAs reaching the size of a great dane and able to hear for miles. The grey wolf gives its power and strength, along with hunting abilities and present adaptations to today's world. The condor and hawk give their large wing span and muscle strength to fly faster and longer. The eagle gives its stamina and sharp claws, along with soaring capabilities. The owl gives the CLAs outstanding eyesight and they are able to see up to 2 miles away clearly.
Appearance
Canis Lupus Avianis are large, muscular, powerful creatures that appear as large wolves. Their wings fold into an indentation in the spine that make the wings unnoticeable under a flap of skin and fur that fold over them, giving them the appearance of a normal wolf. Each wing is typically span from 6-7ft from tip to base. The largest wing span ever recorded was 16ft from tip to tip, Midnight’s wings. Usually the wings are one solid color, very feathery and muscular as well. They move like any other large bird wings, and can potentially carry twice the wolf’s weight, making it easy to carry large prey. With one solid blow from either one of the wings, concussions, even death, can occur.

Coat Colors
CLAs’ coat colors usually come in a small variety of black, fawn, dark brown, reddish, and very rarely white. However, sometimes rare mutations in the skin pigmentation occur, causing color combinations of a mix of the above colors. Patterns are normally solid, but mutations can result in splotches, or random variations of dipped paws, tails, ticked necks, etc. Very few CLAs with these pigmentations have been recorded.

Eye Color
The only known eye colors of the CLA are shades of hazel and blue.

Prey/Eating Habits
Canis Lupus Avianis eat all things that the grey wolves do including a diet of fish, rabbits, deer, elk, mice, shrew, birds, bird eggs, snakes, and very rarely another winged wolf's pups.

Territory
Winged wolves live in dense forest areas with many clearings and usually a meadow or two, also including rivers, streams, ponds/lakes, and scattered trees, mountains, and hills/slopes.

Behavior
Canis Lupus Avianis show typical wolf behaviors including the pack system, the most dominant wolves being the alphas with their right hand wolves ranking in at beta position and carrying on down to the medicine wolf, warriors, elders, pups, and loners. CLAs are aggressive against rogues and loners, but in some cases loners have been accepted into the pack life. All wolves are to answer to either one of the alphas, the female alpha usually being more powerful then the male in the pack.

Other Abilities
CLAs have powers. The most obvious are the large feathery wings that sprout gracefully out of their shoulder blades and back. The only other possible powers that have been recorded are mind reading, but this is weak and takes much skill and practice to master, super speed, which, since these wolves already very fast in the air and on land, top speeds in the air reach about 150mph (with super speed) and up to 95mph on the ground (with super speed). The average speed without it is 65mph (on the ground) and 125mph (in the air). A few other abilities mixed in have reported extreme fighting abilities and extra hearing/smelling/seeing capabilities.

Pregnancy
CLAs are in heat every winter from start to finish. The gestation period is 3 months, a bit longer then the average grey wolf or dog. If a winged wolf breeds in the beginning of winter, she will give birth in the beginning of spring, etc. CLAs are reported to have multiple breeding sessions to ensure successful pregnancy. Canis Lupus Avianis give birth to 2-4 live pups, although the first CLAs were hatched from eggs. The reasoning behind this is unknown.

"Love is like war. Easy to start, hard to end, and impossible to forget."

Why do you want this animal and what will you do for it?:
Why do you want this animal?
Even before I adopted Devil, I’d been admiring a select few characters. They’d always been there, and were rarely tried out for. Midnight was one of these characters. However, I want to try for him first because he is my favorite of the bunch. He has a simple but interesting design with his accessories and has a wonderful piece of art already.
When I first saw him, my brain began to hum with ideas, mostly in relation to a roleplay I am in and a certain user who likes winged wolves. And it couldn’t be a coincidence that his name, Midnight, could not be changed. Now that I’m on summer break, I feel it’s the right time to try out for this wonderful Canis.
What will you do for it?
Midnight will have his very own post in my character thread and will be colored whenever a good line art is available. He will also have art of him ordered. He will be used in multiple roleplays, including the one his sisters are in. He’ll also likely be apart of what ever Shadow and I come up with next. His design won't be 'changed' per se, but his colors will be flipped. The new Midnight will have a black body and grey dots under his eyes.

"Actions speak louder than words."

Personality:
Natural leader
This one always tends to go to the front of the pack, and doesn’t shy away from the spotlight. Even when this wolf steers his flock the wrong way, he’ll accept it and deal accordingly. When he isn’t in charge, he’ll feel a bit uncomfortable, but he won’t try and grapple power from whoever has it.
Confident
To be a leader, one must know themselves and have confidence. Wolves do not follow weak, insecure leaders, but the more dominant and sure leaders. So, fitting perfectly with his other trait, Midnight is naturally confident of others and himself.
Brave
Once a daring pup, Midnight has now settled for being brave. When danger threatens, this CLA will not run away from, but towards the danger. Obviously, this trait sometimes turns on him if he doesn’t use good judgement.
Protective
He hates anyone he likes being hurt and tries to protect everyone he can, emotionally and psychically. He sometimes tells white lies and takes the blame for somebody else because he wants to protect others.
Resilient
Midnight has proven himself to be a resilient wolf, though he has lost much throughout his life. He always rises back up, determined to continue on in life, namely in honor of those he lost.
Distant
It is somewhat hard for Midnight to come down to earth and relate to other wolves. He tends to be always thinking of his pack and what they need, therefore he is often distracted and quick about doing things. His rank also occasionally puts distance between him and his pack.

"Nature never did betray the heart that loved her."

Likes:
Nature
This wolf is very conscious of the life around him, and appreciates nature. Everyday wild is something he appreciates, mainly because of his close encounter with people.
Organization
Midnight is very happy when all things are running smoothly. When the pack is functioning well and it is a time of little problems, he relaxes. Organization to him means reliability and soundness, even in the roughest of waters.
Shadow and Mika
Though he hasn’t seen them for years, he still loves his sisters, Mika and Shadow. He knows that they are in a pack together, and his thoughts are often stolen by them and his duties.
Flying
He loves the fact he has been gifted with the ability to fly. He uses his wings readily and often, they are no secret. And so, his wings have muscle that one can only get from flying hard, fast, and regularly.
His knife
Though it is a reminder of his past, Midnight actually likes his knife quite a bit. Though he doesn’t use it, he probably will never get rid of it as now it is a sort of good luck charm.
Hope
How can one not like hope? Hope means much more to Midnight then it would a normal wolf, as it has played a large role in his life. Hope is not some idea to this wolf, rather it is embodied by things such as a newborn pup or rain after drought.
Making a good impression
This wolf cares what others think of him, even though he is distant at times. He tries to be apart of his pack, not just its leader, though often times he only partially succeeds.

"Never trouble trouble 'til trouble troubles you."

Dislikes:
Chaos
As chaos is the opposite of order, it is also the opposite of what Midnight strives for. Chaos leads to confusion, fear, panic, and sometimes worse. It is impossible to control and hard to dispel. It pushes a leader to his limit and ruins lives, sometimes permanently.
Wolves close to him getting hurt
He’s a bit touchy and protective when you broach the subject of his pack or his sisters. He reacts this way because of his past, and now is protective of those around him, especially his family,
Anybody with bad intentions
He strongly dislikes wolves who purposely do something to hurt another wolf, emotionally, psychically, or both. He does not understand their reasoning and is openly hostile to them.
Being weak
Weakness is something Midnight avoids at almost any cost. He hates feeling weak and adding to that feeling is the need to be a role-model, a wolf to look up to. How is he supposed to lead and inspire wolves when he feels like breaking? That is why he developed resilience.
His nightmares
For some reason, Midnight often has nightmares. They often parallel with real life or come from his memories. Most of the time, they wake him up or cause him to not want to sleep.

"None but the brave deserve the fair."

History/Background:
“My tale has been twisted and scrambled as it is told and retold. I think it’s about time I set the record straight. However, I only have a few moments, so I will just tell you how I got my knife and my vines.”
~~~~~~~
How they tracked him down was unknown, even to the winged wolf himself. But here they were, trying to capture him, without a tranquilizer. The humans had been sent to try and find as many CLAs as possible after the lab escape, which had been years ago. Midnight hadn’t been one of the escapees, but his father had been. He was just glad the people’d found him and not one of his sisters. Midnight snapped out his wings, each of his wings being 8 ft long, and made the people stay 16 feet away from him.
He had to admit, they hadn’t come totally unprepared. The humans were working to untangle a net while they fired things overhead to try and prevent him from flying off. He lunged forward towards the youngest humans, eighteen year olds, and swung his wing out towards them. The three of them fell over on top of each other, trying to get away from the angry Canis’s feathery wing.
Now that a sizable hole was in the human circle, Midnight leapt over the three downed humans and began to take off into the air.
Chaos ensued.
They began shooting all matter of things at him, and though none of the projectiles were deadly they could definitely injure him if they hit. Now perpendicular to the ground, he shot upwards as fast as he could, leaving the humans and their projectiles behind.
Thinking himself free again, Midnight began to celebrate in the sky, barrel rolling, diving and doing other tricks. However, he still flew steadily away from where he knew other CLAs lived, for he guessed the people were tracking him from the ground.
It wasn’t smart to be so unsuspicious; mistake number one.
A thrumming in the air first alerted Midnight that he was not alone in the skies. His ears swiveled about, and now that he focused, he heard a human contraption flying at the very edge of this senses.
Snorting, he sped up, but didn’t bother to reach maximum speeds. The helicopter sped up as well, chasing the winged wolf. Midnight looked back at the approaching helicopter and thought nothing of it, confident in his abilities to out fly it.
That was mistake number two.
As the helicopter finally got within a distance he was uncomfortable with, the air started to churn. The blades of the helicopter sliced the air and sent its normal patterns spiraling out of existence. In this turbulent air flow, Midnight struggled to stay aloft as rouge winds buffeted him from every direction.
Looking downward, the wolf could only see woods for miles. Deciding that he had to land or be tossed out of the sky by this metallic bird, Midnight folded his wings into their indentations and began to fall.
The people in the helicopter could only stare in disbelief as he dove down into the forest.
~~~~~
Opening his slivery blue eyes, Midnight found himself suspended just feet from the forest floor by vines. Grunting, he began to struggle, but the vines were wrapped around three of his legs and his wings.
He soon fell asleep again, unsure what else to do.

Hours later, after he had managed to lick the dew off some nearby leaves, he heard something besides the normal noises of the woods. He lifted his head from its limp position and focused on the sound.
It’s was a person.

Midnight took a deep breath and closed his eyes, sending his mind out towards the human’s. The CLA soon gained access to this person’s thoughts. Ugh, why does the Corporation need me to track down this wolf anyway? How did they even chase it all the way out here? And why do they want me to kill it? He heard the human draw out something from his belt. Then this male person’s mind became resolved and thoughts flooded through it. Forget them. I’m not going to kill it, I’ll help it get out of this crazy forest. If I can even get close to the wild animal.
Pulling out of the person’s thoughts, Midnight waited for the tracker to find him.

Two days later
Midnight startled awake when a branch fell to the ground not far from him. He slowly turned his head to look at the place where the sound had come from.
There, staring in awe, was the long awaited tracker.

Knife in hand, the black haired, green eyed man rushed over to the winged wolf. Entering his mind again, Midnight tilted his head.

They didn’t tell me it was winged! Or that such a creature existed. The man lowly whistled and a flash of greed shone in his eyes. Imagine, if I captured this wolf! The possibilities... Midnight growled lowly and the tracker exited his fantasy. No, I have to free it...

The man quickly went to work cutting the vines, but didn’t dare touch the growling wolf. So it ended up that the vines were still wrapped around Midnight, but he was not tied. When the tracker was nearly done, only a wing remained, the man had another thought. They’ll punish me if they find out. I can’t take my knife back, it will surely have some of his fur or something on it. Now the tracker was getting smart and suspicious. I’ll put it on the wolf!
Not smart.

With only one vine to go, the man --who Midnight had learned form his thoughts was called Vince-- strapped the knife to the leg Midnight had no vines on. The winged wolf allowed it, only because he was grateful that the man had saved him instead of slaying him.

Midnight didn’t wait for the man to figure out how to cut the last tether, with a flex of his wing it snapped. His silver blue eyes rested on the human for a moment, then he coiled himself up and shot through the gap in the canopy he had created when he fell, leaving behind only a single black feather and memories.

"Our greatest glory is not in never falling but in rising every time we fall."

Art:
I'll color in some art and order of him if I get him, since I fail at drawing on Oekaki and can't scan traditional art onto my laptop.
Other:
The breed Canis Lupus Avianis is (c) ∞ Shadow ∞ and I have her permission to use the breed and make the character her characters’ sibling.

Also, I apologize about the story. My muse started to fail me. ;n;

Why do you want this animal and what will you do for it?:

Where do I even begin? Spotty makes such unbelievably beautiful designs, this being one of my favorites, it caught my eye, and it's the only thing on my mind. Beyond that though, there's something about her that remind me of myself. I saw her, and right away I thought of me, and then her and Rocka Bay (a character I previously got from here). It then hit me, she too would be great for the comic I am making! I'm still looking for wolves to be in it, and I really do think she could add a great mix to the story.
Over all, she'll most definitely be used. Currently, the first few pages of the comic are being sketched out, but I am still in need of characters that will fit in well with the story. Thus, she'll he getting much art, and I'll cherish her, and love her to pieces. I'll be so grateful if I can call her my own, you would really make me the happiest person in the world!

Fray is definitely what you'd call a tom boy. She's anything but girly, and doesn't mind getting dirty. She fits in well with the guys, and almost sees herself as one. She's quite stubborn, and once she has her mind set on something, you can't talk her out of it. She's more of a leader than a follower, and tries hard to show little weakness. Fray's not too emotional, and really only shows anger towards others when she's sad. She does sometimes prefer to be alone, but that's usually only when she's in a bad mood. Despite that, she can be very kind, and she would risk anything for the ones she loves. She's strong, and not easily scared; she's a risk taker, and doesn't back down. It takes some time to gain her trust and faith, but once you do, you'll be glad; she's a great friend and companion.

History/Background:

This story is similar to Rocka Bay's, the wolf I previously got from here, because they both will be used in the comic I am making, meaning it has the same plot, which is looking and protecting 'the stones'. Though, she only will be used in the comic if I am so lucky as to calling her my own.

My name is Fray, I am part of a small, tribal wolf pack, living deep in this forest we call home. Most wolves dare not live here, but we have learned to survive, and moreover, thrive. Our spirit-guides show us the way, at least, that's what my father tells me. My father is the shaman in this pack, and told me that we all have a spirit-guide, they are that little voice in your head that helps you choose right from wrong, and watches over you. They'll present them self to you when you're in a time of need, and have lost nearly all hope. My pack members and I worship these spirits, in hopes they lead us in the right way. We're a tight-nit pack, we watch out for each other, help each other, hunt together, and live together.

As for me, I'm an older pup now. Me and others my age will be taught how to hunt tomorrow, learn survival skills, and other very important things. I'm not nervous like those other girls, they act like mud is quick sand, and can't stand getting a little dirty. That's mostly why I stick with the boys my age. I'm practically one of them now, and they can relate better with me. Truthfully, I don't care when the other girls snicker and joke about me, or call me a boy. I don't let it get to me at all, and the guys are better than they'll ever be. One day they'll envy me, because they'll be wishing they had all the boys around them, even though I don't see myself with any of these guys. I actually can't see myself in love. I'm so boyish, I'd think a guy would like someone more like a girl, but it doesn't bother me at all. Besides, my father keeps telling me I'm too young anyways.

I cannot wait to learn how to hunt though! I wonder how the others feel about it. I look around the small tent my father and I live in. It's pretty much made of sticks propped up against each other, and large leaves and vines covering it. I look at the cushion of green leaves my father still changes every week where my mother once lay. I stare for a while, remembering the great times we all once had. I can still see the pain engraved in my father's eyes, even when he smiles and even when he laughs. It'll always be there, I know he misses her, and I do too, but he just can't seem to move on. You see, she was the protector of the Turquoise stone, and our home land was invaded. The stone was crushed, and therefore, she was killed too. The story of these stones date back to the beginning of the wolves.

Legend says there was a wolf pack who lived in a dry, dead land. This land was called Brayon, and wolves lived here were named the Pack of Brayon. Now, in the sky, lived a pack of winged wolves named the Diamond Pack. They have great strength and power, and could preform great miracles. The Pack of Brayon never gave up their hope in the Diamond Pack, and in return, the Diamond pack presented them with eleven magic stones: Garnet, Amethyst, Aquamarine, Emerald, Pearl, Ruby, Peridot, Sapphire, Opal, Topaz, and Turquoise. The Diamond Pack, of course, kept the Diamond. For years, the pack lived in peace, and used the stones for good, but that soon changed. They turned on each other and used the stones for their own personal gain. This caused many fights and great disputes. The Diamond Pack leader flew down from the sky, took back the stones, and spread them all around the world, as with the Wolves of Brayon, and they may never return. It's said if you can get all of the stones, and find the land of Brayon, you will get the land itself as your prize. It is no longer a land of death and emptiness, but is flourishing with life, and there are no humans to get in your way. But, it's very hard, since there are wolves out there to destroy the stones, in hopes of gaining the powers they hold. And once a stone is destroyed, the protector of the stone is too. To repair a stone after it's destroyed, it's said you must find a descendant of a Wolf of Brayon, only they can remake it. But the protector, they cannot be saved after they die.

Word is that the Turquoise stone has recently been remade, but it's a week's journey on foot. It means the world to my father, and it sure meant a lot to my mother. Ever since she died, my father never got better. He has that far away look in his eyes, and sometime zones out, not hearing a thing. At night sometimes he'll stay up, looking at the night sky with tears streaming down his face. It eats me to the core, a piece of him is missing, he was so much happier when she was around. Sure, he laughs and smiles sometimes, but deep down we both know he has no more happiness to show. I miss her too, but something happened in him, as if the true him as left and sorrow has fill his body. I want to help him so badly, and the only way I think I can is to get back that stone. Once I finish my training with the others, I'll do my best to talk them into joining me. Flint and Eli, two wolves my age, are very close friends of mine, and if I can talk anyone into coming, it's them.

My father enters the tent, lays down on his bed of greens, says a quick 'good night', and closes his eyes for sleep. It's hard for me to sleep, I cannot wait for my training. I look at the moon and the stars above through the opening in the tent. A few hours later, I heard a faint "Pssssst" noise coming from the brush behind the tent. I exit and investigate, bumping into Eli. "Can't sleep either?" I ask as he comes out of the brush into the opening in the forest where I am. "Nope, too excited." He says, and looks over from where he came from, seeing Flint. "Did I miss anything?" he asks looking around. I shake my head. "I can't wait for tomorrow!" Flint exclaims with excitement. "Shhh! You'll wake everyone up, and then we all will get in trouble!" Eli growls. I roll my eyes. "Loosen up, Eli." I nudge him with my shoulder. Eli lets out a slight sigh. "Don't get mad at me when the alpha snaps at us all." Flint begins to laugh. "You worry too much!" Eli's eyes widen. "Quiet down!" He says, looking around to see if he's waken anyone. I begin to laugh, seeing Eli freak out over nothing. "I'm leaving before anyone comes!" Eli said before bounding off. "Watch out, they're coming after you!" Flint yelled, then looks at me. "Well, bye Fray, see you tomorrow." He said as he ran after Eli.

I watched them as they scampered off into the night with a smile. Those two put on quite the show. Such total opposites, if I didn't know them, I couldn't believe they were friends. One thing that's for sure, they can always get me to smile. I feel myself beginning to yawn, and think it's best if I go to bed, I'll be needing some rest for tomorrow anyways. I quietly make my way into the tent and bury myself in the warmth of the soft, green pile of leaves. I curl myself in a ball, my tail gently laid on my muzzle, and fall right asleep.

"Wake up, wake up, wake up!" I hear as I feel my body pounding. Startled, I quickly look around, seeing Flint pawing and bouncing on top of me. "Today's the day!" Eli says looking down on me. "Get up!" Flint says joyfully, still standing on my back. "Maybe if you got off me, I could get up." I said, looking up at him. He laughed a little. "That'd probably help, wouldn't it?" He said, and backed up, standing beside Eli. I stand to my feet, and shake of my pelt. "Do I look alright? Flint tackled me on the way here." Eli asked as he tried to fix his hair with his paws, but a little piece always stood straight up. He gave a little glare at Flint. "Here, let me help you with that!" Flint said and gave Eli a big, wet lick all up his face to his hair that flopped over his forehead and was perfectly swayed to the side. Now, it stuck up and out in every direction, with gobs of saliva dangling off, oozing down his face. Eli's face was covering in anger. His lips began to curl up, showing his fangs to Flint, with a low growl coming from this throat. He jolted at Flint, bringing him to the ground. I quickly pushed Eli off. "Guys!" I said firmly with bared teeth. "Save the fighting for the training." I looked at Eli and wiped the goop off his face with my paw. He tried not to make eye contact, I could tell he was embarrassed by his actions. I looked at him in the eyes. "It's alright, we all want to kill Flint from time to time." I said with a smile. He smiled back, and we both looked over at Flint, who had gotten tangled in tree vines. "A little help?" He asked with a crooked smile as he dangled a foot above the ground.

Boys, so stupid, but, you got to love them. Eli and I helped Flint down. He fell to the ground, and bounced right back up. "Can we do that again?" He asked with excitement. "If you want to be late for training." Eli said, turning to leave. I nodded. "He's right, we better get going." We made our way to the center of our pack land, where the lead hunting wolf, Inferno, stood. Another wolf our age, named Nathan, sat right in front of Inferno, awaiting training to begin. He turned his head back towards us. He smiled and looked at Inferno. "Can class begin now?" He asked impatiently. "Once they get over here, sure." Eli, Flint, and I walk past the girls our age. They look at me, and return to their chatting. They pause to stare at us, then begin to laugh, and return to their conversation. "What's that all about?" Eli asked glancing at the girls, then back at me. "I don't know, let them think what they want, I much rather hang out with you two than them any day." Eli smiled, and Flint leaned against me as we walked. "Really, you mean that? Good! Cause you're better than those snobs anyways!" He said just loud enough so the girls could hear. They grunted and glared, snarled and gasped, then went back to their ranting. "Everyone, come over here so training may begin." Inferno said in his deep voice. The females moved towards him all together as a group. Eli and I followed Flint to Nathan, where we all sat together in front of Inferno. Once everyone made it over to Inferno, training began.

"Hunting will be very important in your every day life. First, you smell. Find where your prey is located. Make sure you go against the wind, not with it, or else they'll smell you first. You must be quiet. Move slowly the closer you get. Don't let your prey see you, try to blend in, or hide. Once you're close enough, move as a pack to catch it. Work as a team, communicate with your group, it's not a one-wolf job. You could never take down a full grown buck alone, remember that. It's best if you have a wolf to first scare the prey, running after it from behind, then, a wolf running at each side of the prey, to block it in, and if need be, have another wolf father ahead somewhere, to cut it off, or at least slow it down. This is the ideal way to get a deer, or large animal, but there are different ways. Today, you all will have to hunt down and bring me back what you've caught. You can either catch a small animal on your own, or work together as a group to catch something larger, maybe not a deer, more like a young hog, or something of that nature. Oh, and remember, if you get hurt or die, I'm not liable. Does everyone understand?" Flint raises his paw. "What's liable mean?" "Uh, er, eh, you'll do fine!" Inferno said. "Now go and catch me something!"

I hear all of the girl complaining and whining, I just look at the boys and smile. "Can you believe them?" Eli let out a slight laugh. "Let's go catch some food and show 'em how it's done." Eli said with a sly smile. Nathan bounced up and down with joy. "Come on, lets go!" "Remember, Inferno said you have to be quiet." I said in a hushed voice. Nathan held his ears back. "Oh ya, sorry." "Come on, let go before the girl decide to do something for once." Flint said before sticking his tongue out at the girls. We all follow Flint, which I'm not sure if that's the best idea. "Are you sure we're going the right way?" Eli asked quietly. "Of course I do! Do you know anyone who'd make a better leader than me?" We all just gave a look at each other, and let Flint have his moment of glory, being the leader. I sniff the air. "Smell anything?" I asked. They all give the air a whiff. "This way!" Flint said in a whisper, and quickly turned left. As he began to slow down, I knew we were getting close. I was shocked to see a fawn laying there all alone. It was young, and there was no scent of it's mother. In fact, it had dried blood on its face, making me guess its mother had been killed, and it had been splattered with her blood. It wouldn't make me feel bad to kill this little guy, it's probably best, since it would need its mother at this age for food, this fawn will only starve to death if we don't put an end to its misery. "Aww, it's kinda cute..." Flint said, and looked at Eli. "Can we keep it? I promise I'll take good care of it! I'll feed it, and care for it! Please?" Eli rolled his eyes. "Oh please, you must be kidding me." Nathan could tell Flint looked crushed. "Don't worry, we'll find you another pet, ok? Imagine how proud Inferno will be when we bring it back." "No, I want this one!" Flint said with pleading eyes. He blew his cover and hopped in front of the fawn.

Eli reared back, ready to go after him, but for some reason, I stopped him. "Wait." I said. "Look." The fawn stood shakily. "Shhh, I won't hurt you." Flint said, staying low to the ground showing submission. When he looked down at the fawn's feet, he saw it was caught in a snare made of barbed wire. He slowly approached, and to our surprise, the fawn did not try to escape, run, or even hurt Flint. Flint untangled the wire from the fawn's leg, and took a step back. "You're free now little guy, maybe I can see you again." Flint said looking up at it. The fawn nuzzled him a little, which tickled him and made him laugh. It was a sight to see, two species that are suppose to hate each other becoming friends. it was truly amazing. When Flint came towards up, the fawn followed behind him. In fact, it hid behind him, scared of us. "This is ridiculous!" Eli said with anger. "I don't know, it's kind of cool actually." I said. Eli looked at me with disbelief. "Don't tell me you've gone soft on me." "I haven't! But I just think it's a little cool that a deer trusts a wolf, that's all!" I said getting in Eli's face, also beginning to get a little angered. Nathan pushed us a part. "How about we let Flint see how much work keeping a deer is, and how it will never work, and let him learn his lesson, and we can just go catch something else?" I looked at Eli for a couple of seconds, still unhappy with him, then we both looked away, saying 'fine' at the same time.

Eli led the way this time, Nathan behind him, and me beside Flint and his new pet. "What should I name him?" Flint asked me, then looking back at the young buck. "How about Ricky?" Flint smiled. "I like that!" "Quiet back there, you'll scare everything away!" Eli said, probably just to annoy me. "Ignore him, he's just in a bad mood." I told Flint. "I wish Ricky could speak wolf..." Flint said. Ricky made a sort of grunting noise deer make. I smiled. He was pretty cute for a deer. I looked down at Ricky's leg that was bleeding. I frowned, it didn't look too good. "Don't worry, my mom is one of the healers in our pack, maybe she can help." I nodded, and noticed we were coming to a stop. I looked at Flint. "You and your deer stay behind that oak tree, I don't want you both getting in the way, or getting any more hurt." "Come on Ricky!" Flint coaxed Ricky to follow him behind the wide trunk of the oak tree, where he cleaned out Ricky's wound. I went over to where the others were, seeing a group of rabbits munching on fresh vegetation. Eli kept looking at me, but I refused to return his gaze. "Attack on one...two...three!" Nathan said as we all sprang from the bushes, bounding after the rabbits. The quickly sprinted side to side, through thick brush and leaping over and under fallen trees. I saw Nathan and Eli chasing there close by. "Box them in like Inferno said!" I said loud enough for them to hear. Nathan stayed behind Eli and I, making sure none could turn around. Eli and I ran along side each other, four bunnies in between. Some tried to turn, but it was nearly possible with my legs moving so fast. We all began to bark, to confuse and startle them, then, we attacked. We got three our of four, which wasn't bad. We made our way back to Flint, who had fallen asleep, snuggled with Ricky, who had his head on Flint's back. I nudge Flint to wake him up, since it's a bit hard to talk with a rabbit in my mouth. They both stand, and follow behind us, making our way back to Inferno.

All of the pups sit in a line with their catch laying in front of them. One of the girls had a pile of berries, which really shouldn't count, another with a half dead caterpillar, and a third with a bone which she probably found buried somewhere. Eli, Nathan, and I all had bunnies laying at our paws, and Flint had Ricky laying beside him. Inferno stood there in shock, staring straight at the deer. When he saw it move, he found it almost unbelievable. "Well, I've seen a lot of things in my life, but a deer happily laying by a wolf, that's just... unheard of!" Flint stood over Ricky. "You can't hurt him!" He said firmly, looking Inferno straight in the eyes. Inferno let out a hardy laugh. "Are you telling me what to do? That's food, not a friend of yours. It's a deer! We eat them!" I was surprised to see Flint still standing there, not even phased but Inferno's outburst. "You told me to catch you something, and so I did, you never said I have to kill it." Inferno was at a loss of words. I could tell he knew Flint was right, he never told him to kill it. Inferno let out a sigh. "This is ridiculous. There's no possible way you can keep this walking meal hidden from the rest of the pack. They'll kill him before you know it." "I'll prove you wrong! I'll take good care of Ricky, he said before walking off, the deer giving Inferno a quick lick before prancing after Flint. I felt bad for poor Flint, everyone kept putting him down today, I had to cheer him up, so I followed after him. Frozen with shock and confusion, Inferno watched as we left. "You named it!?"

"Wait up Flint!" I said as I caught up to him. "Are you alright?" "Everyone thinks I can't do anything! Well I'll show them, I'll show you all!" I saw Eli coming after us. He followed by my side. "You two alright?" I didn't pay him much attention, Flint just sniffled and tried holding back the tears. We approached Flint's tent, where his mother was making medicine from herbs and other things she'd found in the forest. Flint poked his head inside. "Mom, I have a patient ready for you." "Bring them in!" She said as she arranged her herb collection. Ricky scampered in and sprawled out on the floor. Flint's mom looked at the deer with bewilderment. "I found him caught in a trap and when he looked at me, I just knew he needed help and he was just as lost as I am, not able to find a purpose in his life, and I felt the same way. So I saved him because I just want others to see I can do something, I can help him, honestly I can, so can you please heal his wound?" There was a long moment of silence. His mother was saddened by his words, and for that reason only, she agreed to help. "Flint, you stay in here and help me treat his wound." "We'll be right outside." I told them, stepping out of the tent. I walk up a hill near there, with Eli following after me. "I'm sorry about before, Fray. I didn't mean to annoy you." I lay on the top of the hill, Eli still right by my side. It's hard to hold a grudge against him. He then nudges me behind the ear with his wet nose and smiles. "You know you can't be mad at me." He's right, plus, that really tickles. I begin to laugh harder and harder as he nibbles the tips of my ears. "Stop, stop!" I plead as I roll over. "That really tickles!" He laughs and plops down, laying on his back as I am, looking at sky. "I'm leaving this place the first chance I get. There are nice wolves here and all, but I just want to be free, you know, be my own wolf, do what I want, and go where I please. On my journey, I'll get the Turquoise stone that my mother once had. That's my dream. Maybe that will bring back my father." I said looking up at the sky. Eli turned his head towards me. "You're leaving us?" He said in a faint, maybe even saddened voice. I looked over at him. "Well, ya, of course, I'm not staying here forever, are you?" Eli looked back at the sky. "Well, maybe." I scooted a little closer. "Hey, don't be sad, you can come too! And Nathan, Flint, and heck, even Ricky can come along! The more the merrier!" That seemed to cheer him up. "But, what about our families? Won't they miss us?" Eli asked. "I'm sure, but we'll come back and visit, I gotta show that stone to my father anyways." We both agreed to the idea, and happily chatted until Flint and Ricky came over to us.

I stand and look at Ricky's leg. It has long strips of leaves wrapped around it, and some sticky substance under that, oozing out. From the smell of it, it's some sort of medicine Flint's mom whipped up. "She said he'll be better soon. She also made something close to deer milk made of roots, almonds, and other kinds of nuts and smashed up. He can stick with us now, right?" Flint asked hopefully. Eli nodded. "If he means that much to you, then it's fine by me. Fray?" I too nodded in agreement. "Where is he going to be while we're training for the next week?" I ask. "My mom said she'd watch over him and keep him in the tent, and would do her best to keep other wolves away. She's covered him with dirt, and keeps freshly picked flowers and herbs near him to hopefully mask his scent. So far so good." Flint looks so proud, I'm happy for him, that he's found something to care for, and that he loves,that he's not only helping, but it's helping him too. I just can't help but feeling a tad worried. If he agrees to going with Eli and I, it'll be even more tough to keep other wolves and predators away. But who am I to take something that means so much to Flint away from him? If they're up for the challenge, then I am too.

The next morning, I wake up before the boys make there way over to my tent. As I begin to exit, I turn back my head and see my father sleeping, the fur under his eyes drenched with tears. I sigh lightly and go over to where he's laying. "I promise I'll get that stone back for you, I'll do anything to bring the old you back to me." I licked his forehead, and then left to go meet everyone at training. Nathan, of course, was there already, still so eager to begin. I go over to him, and wait along side him, Eli and Flint soon coming too. Once they make it, and the girls are some-what near our group, Inferno begins. "Now that you all know the basic of hunting, I'll teach you fighting!" I'm always up for a good fight, so I smile, knowing it should be fun. Another wolf approaches Inferno, to help show us good fighting strategies. They show us some good moves, how to bring a wolf to the ground, and how to get back up, how to confuse another wolf, and anything else you could think of. Now it was our turn. Inferno paired us up for one-on-one duels. I was paired with one of the girls, which only made this moment sweeter. In four seconds flat, I had her on the ground begging for mercy. Whoever won against the wolf they went against was then paired with another winner, which only left a very shy girl who stuck with that group, but never fit in, me, Nathan, Eli, Flint, and one of the mean girls. I was paired with the mean one, named Trix, Nathan with the shy girl, and Eli versing Flint. Trix was just as easy as the one before, the shy girl surprisingly beat Nathan, but she refused to fight anymore, and Eli took down Flint. So that left me and Eli.

We stand face to face, awaiting Inferno's signal to begin. "I don't want to hurt you." Eli mouthed to me. "You won't be the one having to worry about that." I said quietly. He looked at me with a confused look, then Inferno let out a bellowing howl, telling us to begin. I flung myself forward, ramming Eli to the ground. I then pin him to the ground. He struggles to get up, but it seems nearly impossible. I give him a sly smile, then let him up when Inferno announced me as the winner. "You so cheated." Eli said with an unpleasing look. I laughed a little, he and I both know I won fair and square. "Good job Fray!" Nathan said hurling toward us, then coming to a screeching halt, walking beside us as we headed to camp, which is the center of our land, where all the cool things are. There are huts where wolves make things, such as beads made of wood or rocks, they then string across long, thin leaves or vines to make necklaces. There are also toys made from sticks and other things found in the forest, the fresh market, where wolves trade fresh kills or berries for other things. It's a really great place, I've made friends with many who work there, so I get good deals on a lot of things. I notice Flint coming over to us. "Got anything good to trade?" He asks us. "I found a spearhead that might be of value." Says Eli. "I found a nice berry bush, I could trade a branch of berries for something nice." Nathan calls out. "I found a silver ring a person must have dropped." I said. "Near here?" Eli asked, surprised. "No, I left pack lands, it took me about a day and a half to make it there, but it guess it was worth it." "You left pack lands, are you insane?!" Nathan said, acting as if he was my father. "Oh calm down!" I said firmly. "It's no big deal. I'm fine, and there were no humans around anyways." "You must be crazy or something." Eli said, shaking his head in disapproval. "Why does it matter so much if I stepped out of our land for a day or two?" I said, now getting quite annoyed. "I didn't finish. You must be crazy for not inviting me along." Eli said, looking at me with a smile. I began to smile, too, and rolled my eyes.

We all split up to get our things we are going to trade, and meet back up at camp. I go to the fresh market first, I want to get a nice dinner for my father and I that we could share before I left to get the stone. For the silver ring, I was able to get six cuts of deer meat, two oranges, which are quite hard to find around here, a bundle of raspberries, and four turkey wings. Eli helped me take it all back to my tent, except for two cuts of deer meat and two turkey wings that I was planning on trading. When we got back to camp, I trade my two turkey wings for a necklace made of beads carved with intricate designs strung across a vine with a long feather dangling down as the centerpiece. I give my two cuts of deer meat to Flint to trade. He gets some kind of grass that's hard to find around here that deer go crazy over. Most wolves use it for bedding, or to attract deer so they may kill them, but I know he's getting it for Ricky. By the time we have our fun with trading, and take our goodies to our tents, it's afternoon. We all meet up in the center of the camp, it's a big fire pit where the wolves in our pack celebrate special occasions. It's surrounded by all of the huts for trading, and all the wolves come here on full moons and tell stories, howl, and have a great time. There just so happens to be a full moon tonight, so why not get there early?

As the sky grew dark, more and more wolves showed up until all was present. Everyone huddled in close, the warmth of the fire bringing them in. The light bounced of the excited eyes of every wolf as some began to sing and dance around the fire. I kept by my friends, Eli, Flint, and Nathan. We talked, laughed, and told jokes. I saw may wolves were dancing, then Eli nudges me. "Come on, lets go dance!" I'm really quite hesitant. "Oh, I don't know Eli, I'm not good at dancing, and..." Flint then pushes me out of the group into the open area where other wolves are dancing and skipping around. "Well, I guess I could, but just five minutes." So much for five minutes. We danced the whole night away, I think even Nathan and Flint danced together. Then we all started howling at the moon. When I wake up, I'm snuggled in close beside Eli, which is good, because he's warm it's freezing out! I begin to shiver as I know winter is beginning, and it's coming fast. I see Nathan and Flint curled up alongside each other, shaking like leaves. Chills run down my spine as the cold air keeps rolling by. I snuggle in closer to Eli seeking warmth, which seems to wake him. "Are you ok?" He asks, seeing me shivering so hard that my jaws chatter. I nod and we stand up. "Wow, what a difference from last night!" Flint stays as he stretches. Nathan lets out a long yawn. "It is cold!" Nathan says, trying to keep himself warm. "Do we really have to go to training today?" Flint groans. I nodded. "So we better get going." I said, and with that we all unhappily made our way over to Inferno.

It really wasn't worth it, we are all freezing, and all we did was learn to scavenge. Learning where to find food when we need it, which berries are edible and which are poisonous, and I suppose those things are important, but I wish it could have been a little warmer, but it only got worse. For the next couple of days, the temperature plummeted. Our lessons dragged by, and we couldn't even hang out after classes because my father is forcing me to stay inside before I catch frostbite. You'd think he'd let me be with my friends a little bit after that big dinner I made for us. But, I really do need to spend some time with him, especially since I'll be leaving soon. I've got to tell him tonight. I pace around the tent, waiting for him to return. When he walks in, I immediately stop and look at him. I'm afraid to tell him, I'm really all he has left, he'll be all alone, and I've never been without him for a long time. But something inside my urges me to get that stone, almost like it's my destiny, I must, it's not a option. He gives me an odd look. "Are... you alright?" "Come sit." I tell him, and pat the ground in front of me. He looks a little confused, but obeys. I take a deep breathe. "Dad, word is that the Turquoise stone has been remade, and it's a week's walk away. There's no guarantee that it's there, but if there's a chance, then by all means I'll do whatever I can to get it back for you. You can't hold me back, I have to do it, I have to go get it. I feel as if there's a part of mom in that stone, as if it's part of her legacy. Right when my training ends, I'm leaving, and I'm sorry, but you can't stop me." He sits there, his face drained of emotion. It's all silent, and I wait for him to say something.

He takes in a deep breathe and curls his arms around me, embracing me. "I know I can't stop you, when you have your mind set on something, there's no stopping you. But, I'll miss you, and I'll be waiting here for your return." I hide the sadness I feel, and I stay strong. "I'll be right back home before you know it. Tomorrow is the last day of training. Eli, Flint, and Nathan will all be with me, we will stick together, and I'll get that stone." "I know you will, you're Fray, and you can do anything when you put your mind to it." He looked at me with a smile, even though I could tell he was very upset. I don't think he slept well that night, but what needed to be done needed to be done.

I wake up knowing this is the day I'd be leaving. I felt much more confident about it for some odd reason about retrieving the stone. I quickly make my way over to the training area, where I meet up with Eli, Flint, and Nathan. "Today's the day?" Flint asks. I nod and look at Flint. "What do you mean 'today's the day'?" He asks. "I'm going to go get the turquoise stone, it's about a week away, if it's even there. Eli said he'd come, and I'd be fine with you and Ricky would come too." I then look at Nathan. "And even you too." Flint and Nathan think about it for a minute, then Nathan speaks up. "I'll go, I'm up for an adventure." Flint seems to hesitate. "Ricky can come too? And we're coming back once we get it?" I nod with a smile. He perks up and happily agrees to go. Training soon begins, and we learn simple things like how you can tell when it's going to rain, how to find and build shelter, and wolf body language. Once we finish training, we say good bye to our families, get Ricky, and set off on our journey.

Before we get far, I sense we're being followed. I stop and look around as the world around me becomes dead silent. The cold wind begins to howl as the trees sway back and forth harshly. "What is it?" Eli asks. "We're being followed." I said stiffly. "Who's there?" I ask with a raised voice. A small wolf delicately walks out from behind a tree and cowers in our path. She's familiar looking, and then I remember her. She was the shy girl in our training group, the one who never fit in with the other girls. "I want to come with you guys." She says in her soft voice. I don't really see the point with bringing another wolf along. For all I know, she could want the stone, too. "Why?" I ask questionably. "Well... I feel as if no one knows me, or notices me. The other girls leave me out of their conversations, and when I try and speak, they ignore me. I want to be remembered for something. I don't want to be that one wolf no one thinks exists. I want to help you in any way I can to retrieve the stone. My mother knew your mom, you know..." "Don't." I say loudly, and there's a long pause." "Don't talk about my mother, no one knows her like I do." "I...I'm sorry, I didn't mean to bring back any painful memories or anything..." She stutters nervously. "Well, you did, and you can leave now." I said and turned away, walking towards the direction of the stone. "C'mon guys." I say as I leave. Eli catches up. "Maybe you're being too harsh, she didn't mean to hurt you, and the more wolves we have, the better protected we are. She could be put to good use..." I ponder over his ideas as I stand still. I let out a soft sigh. "Fine." I say simply and keep walking.

"What is that doing here?" The female wolf, who I believe is named Afeli, asks with eyes widened at Ricky. "He's my pet!" Flint said with a bright smile. Ricky grunted and kicked up some dirt playfully. Eli laughs lightly. "We got quite an odd pack here, don't we?" I smile and nod my head. "Definitely." Suddenly, small, white, wet circle fall onto my muzzle, then on the world around me." "The first snow fall!" Nathan exclaims. Soon, everyone begins hopping around like crazed rabbits, nipping at the falling snow flakes. I can't help but laugh, and join in on their game. Once all of our stomachs ache from laughing, and we're tired of running around, we plop on our backs, laying in a circle in and look at the sky. We talk and joke, smile and share stories, just like we did at home at the camp fire, almost forgetting how cold it is. Once Ricky begins getting the worst of the frigid air, and begins to shake, Flint stands up. "Maybe we should find shelter, Ricky's getting cold, and the sun's setting." We all get up and search for shelter. I lead the way, stumbling upon a good sized cave. "I'll go find some wood and rocks to start a fire." Eli volunteers. "I'll go get some straw for bedding." Afeli says before setting off. Flint, Nathan, Ricky and I settle down in the cave, now feeling the cold air more than ever as the sun goes down.

Time passes, and Afeli returns, be there's no sign of Eli. I begin to worry, and Nathan can tell. "I can go looking if you want..." He says, trying to ease my worry obviously. "No, I can, you stay here and watch the others." I tell him before making my way through the forest. I occasionally call out his name, but to no prevail. I follow his scent, but it's hard with the blasting winds and the snow falling heavily. My heart begins to race. What if he's been killed, or hurt, or trapped? And it's all my fault I didn't make it in time. I only realize I am running at full blast when I stumble over tree ruts in the dim lighting. I call out his name even louder now as I keep up my fast pace. My eyes begin to water with fear as I think of the horrible things that could be happening to him at the very moment. "Eli, where are you!"

Bam! I run straight into something and fall backwards. My head got the worst of it, so I rub it with my numbed paws. "Fray! I heard you yelling and you got me worried, are you alright?" Eli says with a worried expression running over to me. I quickly stand, looking around, seeing him makes me less tense and I let out a large sigh of relief. He stands there, looking at me with the most concerned expression, the sticks he had gathered are all over the ground. The horrible thoughts of him dead somewhere vanishes as I fling myself forward, embracing him, knowing that this is real, and not a dream, and that he really is alive. "I thought you died..." Was the only thing I could think to say. I don't know why I'm hugging him right now. Maybe I'm overwhelmed with emotion, or overtaken by fear, but whatever is the reason, I am glad my friend is here. He holds me close, his head beside mine. "I'm fine." He whispers softly, as he looks in my eyes. He gently wipes away my tears, and I'm embarrassed I am even crying over something as dumb as this. I hate showing my emotions, crying makes me so weak, but I have to be thankful that he's fine, so I don't defend myself and make excuses for these tears. "The others are worried sick, we better head back." I finally say, and I help him regather all of the firewood.

As we head back, Eli breaks that silence. "So... you were really worried about me?" He said glancing around, not seeming to want to make any eye contact. I shrug and say "well... Ya, for all I know, some hunter could have shot you down." That put a smile on his face for some reason, and I look at him with confusion. "What?" He still is smiling when he says "oh nothing". I roll my eyes, he can be very confusing, but I don't urge him to tell me. We make it back to the cave and worry leaves everyone's face. Flint barrels towards Eli and knocks him over, licking his face continuously. "You're ok, you're ok!" Flint yelps with joy. I know Flint and Eli are just like brothers, and if Flint lost Eli, he might die with him. They're so close, I sometimes forget they're only friends and see them as being twins. It's good to see them happy, though. It almost makes me want a sibling. Ricky sees how happy Flint is and skips through the snow, prancing around and kicking up snow at us playfully. It's still hard for me to believe a deer would want to be part of a wolf pack, but at the same time, it's pretty cool.

I turn to see Afeli arranging out beds neatly, making sure the place looks perfect. I begin to feel bad for how I went off on her. She looks at me, as if asking if the place was to my liking. I take the sticks into the cave and set them in the center. I then look at her. "Thank you, and, I'm sorry about before, I just get a little... well, a lot, touchy on that subject." She shakes her head. "No no no, it's fine." She says looking at her paws shyly. After a full day of walking through a forest, searching the woods for Eli, and playing in the snow, I'm extremely tired and make my way over to a pile of straw. I may be cold, but I somehow drift into a slumber.

Blood, that's all I see. A sheet reddened snow, Eli laying in a pool of blood, a bullet straight through his side, and I was too late to save him. Flint, starving himself, mourning over his best friend's death. Nathan, disappointed with me, knowing if I tried I could have made it in time. Eli, a slow death, pain surging through his body. I wake up screaming, hoping this can't be true, only to see Eli laying beside me. I'm breathing hard, as if I had just went on a long and exhausting run. "There was blood! ... And... And..." I say between heavy breathes. Eli scoots in and holds me close. "Shhh... You were having a nightmare, everything's fine." He says nuzzling me softly. I bury my face the thick fur on his chest, my breathing beginning to soften. He's not dead, he's fine, nobody's disappointed with me. The freezing air shoots into the cave, it's even worse now that the sun's gone. I pull my head back and look into his eyes. "Are you ok?" I can see his breathe in the cold air, the moon's light reflecting off his eyes. "Just cold I guess." His fur's so thick and warm, I wish he'd stay, and I am glad he is. I sleep the rest of the night with no more nightmares, and am nice and warm.

The next morning, I wake up with Eli still beside me. He sees I am awake and looks over at me. "You were shivering when I woke up, so I thought I'd stay until you woke up." He said with a caring smile. "Thanks." I say and stand, seeing the world around us covered in a thick layer of white snow. I see a pile of fish, with everyone else stuffing themselves. Eli and I make our way over and eat some fish before we set off. For the next couple of days, we really push ourselves, and I can feel us getting closer. I begin to notice the love forming between Afeli and Nathan, and find it pretty cute. It doesn't bother me much that I don't have anyone like that with me, I'm comfortable with having such great friends.

The snow and wind pick up until its turned into a blizzard, and we're forced to stay in another cave. I think we need the break though, everyone seems to want to lay around anyways. I lay on my back, Eli sitting beside me. He begins to twirl around a chunk of my hair with his claw and says "I wish I could pause this moment right here, and live it forever." I don't quite know what he means by this, but I give him a smile anyways. "Do you think we're close?" Flint asks, before going back to licking Ricky to clean him. "I know we are, I can feel it. We're so close." The blizzard soon begins to die down, but I can tell the others want more rest. "I'll go see if the stone happens to be somewhere around here, you guys rest up." I know it's not, but I need some sort of excuse to let them relax. Eli quickly stands. "I'll go too." "No, it's fine, I'll be right back." He looks at me for a while with caring eyes, but I want to go. I've pushed them enough the week, they could use some extra sleep. I leave and go off into the woods. I go farther than expected, but to tell the truth, it's nice to be alone. By now the blizzard has stopped, and the snow is getting softer. I trudge through it, making impressions in the snow with my paws. I loose track of time, and decide to head back.

I make it back, and the snow begins to fall once again. Eli's pacing back and forth, and when he sees me, he quickly makes his way over. "Are you alright? You've been gone for a while, and I almost began to think you...." he says quickly but begins to trail off. I smile, I know exactly how he feels. "I'm fine." The others come out of the cave and we continue our journey. The temperature yet again drops, but I keep pushing forward. "Can we have a break yet?" Flint asks as it's mid afternoon. I want to say yes, but I know we're so close, we can't stop now. "No, just keep pushing." I say and we haul ourselves uphill, snow lashing our faces. My paws begin to bleed from walking so much with them being numb. I don't let it stop me, I have to get that stone. Afeli begins to stumble, she's running short on breathes, and falls over, unable to get up. "We have to stop!" Nathan says staying by Afeli's side. The wind is blowing so hard, we have to yell for anyone to understand us. "Just get up Afeli! We're almost there!" She winces with pain. "I can't!" her paws are badly bleeding, and her nose is dried out and cold. "Maybe we should take a rest." Eli says, seeing the others in pain, but I just can't stop now. "Ricky's hurt too!" Flint says as Ricky falls on his side, his body shaking heavily. "No! Just a little further, please!" I beg. "If you won't stop, then... Then I am leaving!" Nathan says, putting Afeli on his back.

I'm hurt by his threat, and without thinking I scream "fine!" He looked at me in disbelief and then with disappointment, and quickly left. "Don't go!" Flint howled, but it was too late. He looked at me. "Do something!" He begged. "It's too late!" I snarled. "He's gone, and you can leave if you got a problem with it!" "Fray... Don't say things like that, you don't mean it..." Eli said looking at me sadly. Flint had tears running down his face now, but the stone was pulling me in, it's so close, how can I stop now knowing it could be right over that hill? "Oh, shut up Eli! After all we've been through, I thought you might understand me!" He looked so hurt, like his heart had been crushed. "If I didn't love you, I'd be off with Nathan, but I do, so i won't leave you, but we have to rest." I'm truly shocked. He meant love as in friend, right? "You... love me?" I ask slowly, and then suddenly, BAM, BAM!

Gun shots. Eli's eyes widen and he's frozen, then slowly slumps to the ground. My heart sinks and I lay down beside him. "Eli! Eli, please don't leave me, stay awake!" I plead as I brush the hair from his forehead. His eyes are barely open. "All this time, I've loved you, and you've never even noticed... I should have told you while I had the chance, I should have told you what you meant to me before..." He said in a hushed, pain filled voice. I shut my eyes tight. "Don't say things like that. You're fine, you'll be fine! Just don't go!" I yell, pressing my face against his neck. "Be strong like I know you will, take care of Flint for me, don't let him get into any trouble. And if anyone deserves to have that stone, it's you." He said as he closed his eyes. "It's that stone's fault you're like this anyways." Then I think. "It's my fault, all of this!" He opens his eyes and holds my face with his paw so I'm looking him in the eyes. "You listen, none of this is you're fault, this is how it was meant to be. Don't put yourself to blame." He then leans forward and gives me a long kiss. He then set his head back on the ground. "I had to do that, at least once." I close my eyes as tears stream down my face. I weep loudly until I notice that the urge to get that stone means nothing to me anymore, I want Eli to live. Ricky and Flint are passed out from the cold, and getting help seems impossible. I cry harshly, and I bury face in the snow, wishing I could just disappear, or even die. Something makes me look up, a glowing blue-ish light I can see out of the corner of my eye.

I pull myself up out of the pool of Eli's blood, and hobble over to where the light's coming from, though it's hard to see through the thick snow and my tear filled eyes. I fall and feel so weak, and I cannot pull myself up. "I can't!" I scream, knowing no one is there to hear me. There, standing before me, is a wolf who looks oddly familiar, though, it's not a normal wolf. I can see through it, almost like a ghost. Then I realize, it's my mother. Her spirit, and at that moment, I know she's my spirit guide. Her eyes glow turquoise, and she motions over to a snow bank, the that same blue glow I saw earlier. I pull myself over to the top of the snow bank, and tumble down to the source of the light. It's the stone.

I manage to get the string attached to it around my neck, and look up at the towering hill of snow from which I fell. There's no way I'll be able to make my way back up, but I must try. For Eli, for Flint, and even Ricky, I gather all my strength and stand shakily. About half way up my legs buckle and tremble, and down I go. I scream in agony, maybe breaking something my leg. After that, everything goes black.

I wake up with unfamiliar wolves surrounding me. They speak softly to each other, occasionally looking at me. "What's going on?" I mumble, my vision blurred, but the pain in my leg has vanished. "You've been out for twenty one days." One calls out. Twenty one days? I look around, seeing I'm in a large cave, with many wolves. All my memory begins to come back to me. "Where are my friends?" I ask, jolting up, looking around frantically. "Well, the deer with the wolf are fine, and are right outside the cave, but the other, well..." Their pause worries me even more, I can hear my heart racing, pounding through my chest. "What!?" I almost scream at them, begging for an answer. "He's not well, we got the bullet out, but infection may have set in. We're doing our best to keep him well, but I'm not sure if there's much else we can do." The wolf the motions to where Eli's laying, and without hesitation, I sprint over to him.

"Eli!" I nudge him with my nose, and he lets out a sort of groan. I lay beside him and lick his face. "Please be ok." I plead. "Fray?" He asks in a pain-filled voice. He looks at me with half open eyes, and smiles when he sees the stone. "I knew you'd get it. I always believed in you." I smile back, despite the sorrow I feel, still knowing it's all my fault, no matter which way you put it. He closes his eyes and sets his head back down. "Fray, I don't feel good... And, to be honest, I can't promise you I'm going to make it..." "Please don't say things like that, you'll make it, you can't die." I say, trying my best to hold my tears back, I need to show him I'm staying strong. "Fray..." He begins, but I stop him with a kiss. Suddenly, Flint comes running in, looking very serious, which is odd for him. "What?" I ask looking at him. "There's a wolf out there, and he wants to see you." It's strange, because no one should know me here. Eli tries to stand, but winces in agony, and lays back down. "Be careful." He tells me, I nod, and head out.

There's a large wolf there, with a black flame marking around one eye, black paws, black slash-looking markings on his tail and back, and has one black ear. His eyes glow a bright green, and he has the emerald stone. Right off, I know he's not here to be friends, he emanates with rage and evil. His eyes show no happiness, and looking at him drains you of whatever joy you had. The fur on his back stands straight up, and he gives me vicious smile. "Your the wolf who got the stone? This should be easy." He said slowly walking towards me. I know he's much stronger by the looks of him, and all the rest of the wolves have hidden themselves, so he's obviously feared by many, but I've come too far to loose this stone. I take in a deep breathe, my back legs pushing my forward, and I sprint towards him with fangs bared, ready to fight.

I am looking to adopt...
Image
Kennel number:
P34

Name:
Xue Fang
{ fragrant snow }

Breed:
Tundra Wolf

Why do you want this animal and what will you do for it?:
Usually I tend not to even glance a look at character designs, since I tell myself that I can easily make designs for myself if I'd want to. When I saw Spotty's design though, I don't think I can help myself from at least giving a try in adopting her. As soon as I saw her design, I already had a story churning in my mind.

I began taking a real big interest in her story now, it's been rolling out ever since I saw her and I can't seem to stop myself XD. I really want to design the other characters also, broaden out the story a bit more. If time allows, even draw a few comics for the start of the story. Gah - I'm making myself too excited now orz. I won't make promises that I won't be able to do, but I assure she'll get love and art whenever possible <3

Personality:
Devoted. to her faith, her family, her friends.
Xue Fang is utmost sincere and faithful towards people she loves and cares for.
It's what fuels her to continue on, and gain hope from.
It's what causes her pain also, once hurt by a relationship, she tends to drag it along for a long time.
You can see it as a double-edged trait that gives her joy and pain.

Conscientious. living by the rules.
Xue Fang has a clear line of the right and the wrong.
She wouldn't mind if others don't follow what she sees is the right path.
But she tends to speak to herself a lot, which some would call it a self-discipline.
She's seen as very hard-working, even to the point of being a workaholic, but she denies that she is.
Maybe it's out of habit...?

Naive. Innocence of a pup.
Many say she is white as snow, as well as changing and molding into what others say.
Due to the environment she grew up in, her knowledge of things that are not usually spoken of is very low.
This might make her seem a bit uneducated, but surprisingly, it's quite the opposite.

Gregarious social butterfly, always smiling.
Xue Fang, like her name, seems to attract a lot of people towards her.
Not because she has a special talent or power, but probably because of her always smiling face
As well as her friendly mood around her.
She has a lot of tolerance towards others and it doesn't seem as if she has any dislike for other's preference.
Not surprisingly, some people just chooses not to talk to her because of her.. "fake" like behavior.

Inapt with emotions and expressions.
