Name/Element:
Earthquake
Desired Nickname:
Some SoE have shortened his name to just Quake, he doesn't really mind.
Adam when on the surface. He picked it up one time when he was down on the surface. Someone asked for his name he told then ‘Earthquake’. They laughed and said something in their own language. He believes that they were saying what ‘Earthquake’ meant in their language, he wasn’t too sure but since it sounded like Adam that is the name he has used whenever he went on his trips. Everyone else calls him by his real name.
Gender:
Male
Likes:
Rain – Earthquake can sense the dryness in the earth a lot of the time, it tends makes him feel a little uncomfortable, the rain settles him oddly.
Magic and Juggling – This has always drawn him in. The illusions and the tricks of magic tease him but waving away possibility. Earthquake even tried to learn how to do what he had seen other do on stage and in the streets with no success, not only was no one willing to teach the tricks but he just couldn’t pick it up. But then again, what is more magic then the dragon that Earthquake can turn into? Even if only SoE can know. Juggling on the other hand, was a skill that came easily to him; it almost seems like magic in itself to Earthquake, the way the balls move in the air and how easily he can catch and toss them back up in different patterns.
Clubs/Party’s – He isn’t as fond of them now as he was when he was younger but he still enjoys a trip every now and again. He feels it’s mostly due to the fact that he likes to have fun, to smile, to let his distractions and worries flow away by the music and smiles that replace them.
Sweets – Now a few chocolates and lollies are one thing but Earthquake has a large sweet tooth. Mostly for deserts and such over the occasionally sickening lollies. Earthquake has had to teach himself how to make his favourite deserts so that he can fix them up whenever he wants, even in Eloria when he can bring the things he needs with him.
Earthquakes – He can’t help it. He loves what he does. The shaking and the rumble, it just appeals to him in a way that could possibly be because that is just part of what, who he is.
Dislikes:
Too much dryness – He can tolerate it for a time but it bothers him mostly. He can put up with it if he really had too but he isn’t wholly fond of the idea.
Staying in one spot – It’s not like him to settle down for a long time in one place. It’s in his blood to keep on moving. Yes, he has his home back in Eloria that he is happy to return to but he can’t stay too long before he is off again. Some have tried to get him to stay for a length of time with little success. It will take a lot of persuading and coaxing to get him to stay put for a while. Or something that catches his heart might to the trick too.
Sour – Mostly just with food but anyone with a sour personality will have a lot harder time getting anything out of Earthquake then others. Sour foods though, you can keep them for yourself; Earthquake won’t have any of that. After a binge of sweets, sour things have a bad effect on him, and he really just isn’t fond of anything that is sour.
Bullies – Meat heads who think they own the place and are fine will knocking other away to get what they want. Earthquake finds it sickening. It’s a trait that he first found in human. Bullies that think only about themselves and could care less about whether or not people get hurt in their out bursts and such. He doesn’t like it one bit. He’ll stop them if he can, and if it’s appropriate to do so, since it’s not something that others should have to put up with.
Personality:
Earthquake is protective, which pairs well with his fatherly side. He feels the need to care for or at least watch over smaller and younger SoE, to make sure that they don’t get into too much trouble. He will try his hardest to protect those who cannot fight for themselves and that means not just young SoE but also injured or weak SoE. This protection is mainly reserved for other SoE, since Earthquake has seen and even experience more than his fair share of humans tendances to get violent and ugly, but he does think that there are some humans out there who want to help, and in turn Earthquake feels he should help them too. But his fellow SoE comes first, whether they like that or not. Watch out though, partly because of his past, when he feels he needs to, Earthquake is not afraid to throw a punch to get the message across.
Don’t get the wrong idea though; he is a nice guy, pretty go with the flow and lay back. Mostly keeping to himself. He does find it difficult to make new friends, since he lacks the outgoing personality that he sees as needed sometimes, but he is brave. Travel is always something that he is comfortable with. He likes to be on the move and is willing to dive head first into a cave to check it out when he needs to find a place to rest.
And that is what tends to get him into trouble. Earthquake has had to learn the hard way that being reckless isn’t always a good think. He is fairly smart, not smart enough to defuse a bomb, and most of what he knows is common sense, but he can think of a way out of quite a number of situations when needed.

Story:
See the second post for the story. It's quite large so I'll post it there instead c:
Other:
Earthquake’s eyes are indeed different. His right eye is a dark chocolate brown and his left is a deep emerald colour.
His eye sight is not the best, so in his human form he wears glasses. Glasses are impractical for his dragon form though, so sometimes flying and/or landing can be troublesome.
A small chunk is missing from his right ear, there was once on earring in its place but it got ripped out in a small tussle from when he was younger.
He has a small loop of string around his tail. He plans on finding some beads for it on one of his trips but hasn’t found any that caught his eye yet.

Story:
'Not all of my stories mean as much to others as they do to me..'
The gentle wind glided through Earthquakes dark, curly mane that trailed all the way down the dragons back. His eyes closed to the breeze as he glided smoothly, using his other senses to insure that he wasn’t dropping. Dangling from his claws hung a backpack, inside were some of the things that Earthquake often brought with him on his frequent and often lengthy trips down to the surface.
He let the air lull him deep into thought as the dragon looped in the sky.
Eloria is a stunningly beautiful place, that is something that no one will deny. But Earthquake couldn’t help but feel a little overwhelmed up there. He loved it, he really did, and the freedom that was promised, but for him, the surface always called, yearning for him to be there.
Earthquakes first time venturing down, when he was just a young SoE, he was struck in awe by what was there. It was shockingly different then the familiar Eloria. Somehow, and it surprised him, he felt comfortable there. Not as at home as he felt in Eloria, no, that would always be his home, but he fell in love with some of the things he found. And he found plenty that disgusted him too. Maybe that was the lure that called to him? The promise that it wouldn’t all be perfect like it sometimes, ever so slightly, felt back home?
His first trip on the surface lasted much longer than he had originally planned. His idea was to just go and check things out, get a feel for what it was like and the things that went on down there. A day at most. Well that as the plan anyway.
It lasted close to two weeks. It’s needless to say that other SoE were looking for him, worried that he had gotten himself into trouble, but he didn’t want them to find him, not until he wanted to go back. After his first trip down Earthquake wanted to go down again so much more, and when nothing stopped him, he did. He was young and thick headed then, mixing in with some rough people, which caused his one earring to be ripped out in a small fight that had started, leaving a small chunk missing in his right ear. He was particularly interested in the clubs they had, he claimed that the music had been what had taken him there but he was never too sure. Earthquake was older now, his habits have changed very much since then, not all though, he still had a fondness for the clubs that he now rarely visited, but the one thing that will never change is his love of travel and the surface that expanded out below Eloria.
Opening his eyes slowly Earthquake focused on the fuzzy horizon ahead of him. His mind drifted off once more as he flew, the breeze beckoning him into lazy twists as he moved through the sky. The sky was beginning to darken as the colours of twilight descended on the earth. It was time for Earthquake to land and make his stop for the night. While he had no problem traveling in the dark, he had been on the move of a large majority of the day and the possibilities of a nice long rest drew him in.
Having to guess how close he was to the somewhat blurry ground was a small challenge, since Earthquake did not have the best sight around, but wasn’t anything that he couldn’t manage. Landing by the edge of a quiet town Earthquake changed into the human that other people would see, a man without the usual features of a SoE, the tails, ears and horns, but so as to not stand out a t-shirt, an uncommon piece of clothing for most male SoE. Fishing out his glasses from the backpack that still rested from his fingertips he slid them on, the landscape surrounding him suddenly becoming clearer and sharper.
Slinging his backpack over his shoulder Earthquake gripped a set or three coloured balls. “It’s been a while.” He muttered to himself out loud, his smooth voice hanging in the air as he moved off deeper into the large town. One by one he tossed then into the air, effortlessly catching them and passing then back up into the air and into his other hand as he walked gradually along the pathway. He had wanted to learn to juggle ever since he first saw a small child practising on one of his early trips down to the surface, the young child’s determination and developing skill tempted Earthquake into learning it too.
The sky had darkened considerably since he had landed in the town but Earthquake now realised that dark clouds had formed, and with it brought the threat of a down pour. Not really looking forward to getting soaked he caught his juggling balls mid-air and pocketed them before heading off towards the shelter of a nearby pub.
Small, cool water droplets came down in a mist, rapidly covering the ground and anything else that happened to be in its falling path. Pushing the pub door open and slipping of his glasses Earthquake strode over to a stool at the unattended bar. Using a dry edge of his shirt Earthquake wiped off the gathering drops of water that clung to the glass. The pub was fairly quiet, with a few groups of people chatting about the place but in just a few minutes the noise level increased quite dramatically.
Earthquake fiddled with a mat that rested on the bench and listened to the large group that stood behind him as they talked. Most of them seemed shocked or worried. Interested, Earthquake sat up and focused more on what they were saying, picking up bits of the conversation here and there.
“I can’t believe it, when did it happen? So close by…”
“I know that person! It was with them the other day at…”
“Was anybody..?”
“They are all out aren’t they? Please tell me someone went and helped to look.”
“Someone was missing though, I hope they…”
It soon got to loud to hear even that group, who were standing only a short distance away. Giving in, with the hint of a head ach coming on, Earthquake stood carefully moving around the crowds of people, making his way out of the pub and onto the street. It had certainly rain in the short time that Earthquake was inside, evident buy the soaked ground and small puddles, but luckily the rain was nothing more than a light drizzle again. “What was all that about?” He pondered aloud as he headed further down the street
Glass. There was glass on the road.
It was a car crash. That was what the crowd of people in the pub had been talking about and that was what was waiting around the corner for Earthquake to see. It must have happened in the last hour, but since then everyone had cleared out and made attempts to clean up a bit before the down pour came. The clouds and the time of day were against him and the dim light was no aid to his already poor eye sight. Two cars. That was what it had been. The words of the people in the pub floated back to him then.
“Someone was missing though.”
Normally Earthquake would have left it, of course he would have felt bad but he often just didn’t know what do in those situations, but something caught his eye. Something that stopping him in mid step, and if he hadn’t of had so much practice, he most likely would have lost the concentration that he used to hide his SoE features. But there it was. That small toy that switched on something inside of Earthquake. That fatherly, protective side that only started appearing as Earthquake grew out of his teenager years. A small plush doll with a dress. It was then that he knew that someone really was missing since no one had come to collect the doll.
Fifteen minutes later, Earthquake had made it to the park, a small trail had led him there and he knew that the missing person would be here. The rain had eased of and finally stopped, leaving the air frigid and cold. Earthquakes breath came out as a mist in front of his as he searched around the park. In his search and the faint lights that lined the path that he walked that cast more shadows than light Earthquake almost tripped over the small girl a second before he spotted her. She was huddling under a light, hugging her knees so close to her chest it was hard to tell where they started and ended in the weak lighting with her head down. The water that dripped of off the ends of her dark hair suggested that she must have been out here this whole time in the rain.
Earthquake slowed and knelt down beside the girl. She reacted and lifted her head slightly, just enough for him to see the tears that trailed down her face. She sniffed and buried her head back into her knees. Earthquake frowned, concerned for the child. “Aren’t you cold out here? It’s dark and has been raining…” He didn’t finish, he wanted to see if the girl would respond. The girl would have been no older than six or seven. Earthquake did get a response from her, a slight shake of the head, but this time she didn’t put her head down again and instead focused her shimmering ice blue eyes on him. Good, thought Earthquake. It was progress. “Where are your parents? Do you want me to take you to them? Is there someone you know that can take you to?” Earthquake spoke in a gentle and soothing tone but the girl just looked at him and blinked.
Trying a different tactic he asked, “What’s your name then?”
“..Claire.” The girl said so faintly Earthquake was sure he would have missed it if he hadn’t been really listening.
“You can call me Adam. Do you want to see a trick?” He replied with a smile, using a name that he was once called when he gave his real name to someone, since then the name has stuck whenever he was on the surface.
The girl once again gave a small nod and shifted her body slightly, so that she was facing Earthquake now. He grinned and pulled out his juggling balls. “Keep your eyes on the balls; just watch how they dance.” One by one Earthquake once again tossed the coloured balls into the air; controlling them and throwing them back up. From one hand to another and back again, the balls danced around each other to land safely again. Throwing them higher Earthquake used the small amount of time to fish out another spare coloured ball from his bag, and in a flash was back to juggling and adjusting the rhythm to fit four balls. Letting the balls fly higher into the air he shifted his hands, leaving one to do all the juggling and lifted the other one to wave funnily around the balls, that even got a smile out of the girl, Claire.
The girl seemed to have lightened up a little now and this time when Earthquake asked if she wanted him to take her home she gave a nod. They climbed to their feet together and Claire held up her hands. “Carry me?” She breathed in a small voice. It was cold and late. She must have been out here for a few hours at least and Earthquake didn’t object to carrying her. He crouched down and let the girl climb onto his back.
“Let’s take you home.”
