"Ƨσ, WHAT'S IN IT?" ROWAN ASKED, EYING THE HISSING POT WITH DISTASTE.
"Chicken," came the gruff reply of the shopkeeper. Rowan cocked an eyebrow. "Yeah, you told me that already, but what's the gray stuff floating around in it?"
"Chicken," the old woman repeated, rapping on the pot with a filthy wooden spoon.
"Uh... huh." Rowan coughed, suppressing a gag. "And... what's the orange... chunks?"
"Chicken."
"How about those things that are kind of—"
"Chicken."
"Whatever, give me two bowls." Regardless of how unpleasant the prospect might be, she was hungry, and, frankly, nothing else in the market looked any more appetizing. The lady spooned the, um, 'soup' onto a plate that looked and smelled as bad as she did, muttering dazedly. She plopped it down on the counter and screamed "NEEEEEEEXT!" even thought there was nobody else waiting in line.
"Hey, I said I wanted two, you—" but the woman was wandering blindly into the crowd, hands outstretched, alternately murmuring and screaming at the top of her lungs. "AREN'T YOU GONNA MAKE ME PAY FOR—aw, forget it." Rowan balanced the plate on one hand and scrutinized its contents, before realizing that if she scrutinized it any longer, she would only make herself ill. Cautiously, careful not to look at what she was about to put into her mouth, she took a sip. She immediately regretted this decision, as this turned out to be one of the most disgusting things she had ever eaten (which is saying quite a bit, because believe me, she's eaten some disgusting things. So disgusting, in fact, that the very mention of some of the things she's eaten would make you puke). Determined not to eat any more, and merciful enough not to feed it to her cat, Rowan began to tip the plate onto the ground in front of her. As the contents spilled out onto the concrete, a passerby bumped into her, flinging the soup into her face. He continued on, as if he hadn't realized what happened.
But Rowan realized it. Mopping up part of the mess with one sleeve, she caught up to the culprit, and grabbed him (despite her being considerably shorter and lighter) by the neck of his shirt. The man did not look alarmed. On the contrary, he looked rather like he was enjoying this. And he also looked very drunk (because nobody in their right mind would be happy to see Rowan when she was in a bad mood). "WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?" Rowan thundered. The crowd parted around them, but didn't intervene. The man grinned stupidly, and ran one finger down Rowan's face. This, of course, got him punched in the face . Then kneed in the crotch. Then pinned to the ground wit his head being repeatedly smashed against the floor.

Kate Beasley

{Female/15/Divided/Minor telekinesis/Heteroromantic asexual/Single/Location: Outside the newspaper company/Mood: Average and analytical}

"Those darn Divided should get outta town!"

"... will they hurt the children?"

"Them Divided be causin' the poor life in the Pith!"

Same old, same old, Kate thought to herself, leisurely strolling through the masses of socializing people. People blaming the Divided for the problems everywhere, every time. Kate knew the true reason behind why the United hated the Divided; they feared them. Powers like shape-shifting, telekinesis, and whatever else is in the world was something that the world wasn't quite used to, and no one knew how to really control it. That "Cured" program that Kate had always heard about probably didn't help a thing; it was avoidable as long as you knew the right people. On top of that, there wasn't an one hundred percent success rate in the the program.

If the whole powers thing is a genetic ordeal, then that would most likely be the largest problem the United would have to deal with, the telekinetic thought, passing through a dark alleyway that she had been through all the time. No matter how hard the United tried, the genetic coding for the powers would be passed on from generation to generation, even if the person was "cured" of their powers. Even after generations of children, the genetic code would still appear, no matter how weak and faint it was, and reactivate at some point in the life. Genetic coding couldn't be altered, even by the government. If it, the genetics, could be altered by anyone or anything, then Kate probably would have never been a psychopath, sociopath, clinically paranoid, or hypersensitive to high electromagnetic fields.

Casually walking through the alleyway, Kate realized that she was almost near the newspaper printing company that she worked at. Even though she had multiple days off during the weekend, the telekinetic always went in to chat with everyone. It was easy to collect information at the company that she worked at, since everyone was so chatty about the latest headlines. Of course, the company couldn't print everything that they heard on the street, since the government would probably have their hides for some of the things, so a lot of the workers talked about the classified information they weren't allowed to publish in average newspapers. On top of that, it was place where Kate could chill out and pass time when there was nothing else to do.

And, like she always did when she was in an analytical and thoughtful mood, Kate walked by her place of employment, completely oblivious to the world. After a few feet from the entrance of the company, she quickly realized her mistake and wondered back to the newspaper store.

Like usual, all the publishers were busy clacking away on ancient computers and laptops. Strong, bitter smelling coffee wafted through the room, overwhelming Kate as she stood there, staring at everybody working. Some people were chit chatting, obviously on break, and drinking the terrible coffee that the place served.

"Hey, Keisha! You here to pick up on the latest headlines?" One of the male workers, Bryan, called in his usual, friendly voice.

Keisha Bridgette Ingram; the only name that these people, United followers, and the oblivious know Kate by. Kate Beasley; the only name that the Divided and other government watched groups knew her by. It was nice having a fake alias that everybody could get used to, especially when you could portray that person's personality almost perfectly.

Giving a fake, friendly smile, Kate called back. "Hey, Bryan! I'm just here to see if there's anything that I could do!" That would probably draw at least the boss' attention.

Of course, she was right. At that moment, the boss walked in with a stack of newspapers that had recently been printed. "I need you to sell these," he grunted, hoisting the load into Kate's scrawny arms. "I'll make sure to pay you for overtime today."

Giving that fake, enthusiastic smile that she had learned so well, Kate gave only a nod and headed out the door to do the job she was given. She didn't care if she would get payed or not; this was one of the only jobs where she could gather information without having to be too social. On top of that, the pay was decent, the hours were decent, and the job kept her busy through the days.

Sitting down on the ledge of the window, the telekinetic untied the string bound newspaper stack, using her telekinetic abilities. No one paid attention to her; most people were convinced that she had nothing to do with the Divided. And that had to stay the way it was. Soon, Bully laid down next to her, looking cute and innocent at the pedestrians. Secretly, he was chewing on a mouse that he had just killed.

Mayia Arakai Hikamaru
The day was dragging on for what felt like forever, Mayia's sky blue eyes dull with the boredom. It wasn't until she saw a small crowd gathering around the stall that sold scrap metal that her eyes lit up with concern. The man that ran the stall was nicer than most she had seen, less stingy, but a little more devilish, and it seemed that he and a customer were having a misunderstanding that she could see from where she stood, Hamlet using his ears to listen in from where they stood by a stand that sold food that was mostly rotting… "She's bullying him." Hamlet hissed, his ears still pointed forwards as he watched a strangely dressed girl mess with the owner of the stall. If she had been paying attention, she would have seen the rare sight of a bird flying over head, but she felt she had an obligation to help those who have helped her in the past. She walked through the crowd, her eyes blazing behind her bangs as she pushed off her hood and fought her way through the crowd. The man didn't seem to recognize her, but that didn't matter as she boosted herself up onto the counter, her cat on her shoulder.

"Scraps! Metal that can be melted down and made into anything!" She started, gathering a larger crowd. "You, miss, don't know what you're talking about. People pay good money for anything that can help them survive, and this junk is more versatile than anything that you can find in Pith. The copper wire can be twisted and reformed into springs to fix machinery or to hold together anything falling apart in your home. A chunk of brass, sturdy. You could always melt it down and make anything you could ever want, and its still in usable condition." She said, wanting to get off of this table before the crowd got too big. SHe looked down at the man, letting he eyes show for just a second before she jumped off the the counter, a few gullible market goers actually buying some of the merchant's wares. "Consider our debt, paid." She murmured to the merchant before looking to the girl dressed like a hipster from the time of the Great War. Her eyes were narrow and impatient, looking like she were ready to snap, but merely headed up through the crowd with her hood pulled up again, Hamlet having moved back onto his place on her head. She couldn't believe the youth of the United… So smug and ready to mess with anyone that they could. Living was hard enough without being taunted by children, her eyes fixed on the top of the crowd. Now, she had to find some food as well as a refill of the medicine that Hamlet needed to calm his little weakened heart. Hamlet was a great partner, a wordless purring echoing through his throat and causing her hood to vibrate against the crown of her head. "So, do you smell anything you want?" Mayia asked, looking up at Hamlet for a second before he silently leapt from her head and onto the closest, and sturdiest looking awning in the area. There weren't many that could hold a person, let alone a cat.

Nicolai Ruan
The sound of yelling and cheering came from up the street… Perfect. He didn't even get away from the front of the restaurant that he worked in before a commotion interrupted what had started out to be a fine day. He decided to see what was going on, walking up behind the crowd and glaring over it before a few people cleared a path for him. This wasn't good… Nicolai didn't even move before he put his hand to his face, his right hand in his pocket as he tried to restraint himself from pushing himself through the crowd to beat the guy who he thought was in the middle.

"Dex! What the hell did you do this time, you moron…" He growled out, not having caught a glimpse of the girl who was beating up one of Nicolai's former friends. He trudged into the middle of the circle, pulling his hand from his face and glaring down at the shaggy, black haired player who lay with his face to the floor, dull green eyes looking up at Nicolai's unamused golden ones. "Hey, miss… Mind getting off this dunce? I need to have a word with him." He said impatiently, his arms now folded across his chest and his foot tapping against the ground. The people who made up the crowd were regulars in this area, and needless to say, Nicolai and Dex were a duo well known in this small area of town where restaurants could be found on every street corner, whether they could serve food or not. "I'll be sure to finish punishing him when I'm done talking." Nicolai added on before crouching down with his eyes narrowed on the fallen boy. "Geez… Can't you just stop being a creep for once in your life? This is the fifth time this week. Hell, I feel like beating you up right about now for doing this to me." He grumbled, getting a nervous laugh from the one he called Dex. "W-What can I say?… She came onto me this time…"/ Dex chuckled feebly, earning another glare from Nicolai. Shaking his hazel locks, Nicolai sighed, his shoulders looking relaxed, but the look on his face showing every bit of irritation that he felt course throughout his body and into his fists.

The will to win is important. But the will to survive is Vital.

Lile shifted uncomfortably -the woman next to him was eyeing him with the eyes of a hunter, on the prowl. Shimmying himself away from her on the wooden bench, the two were sharing she was over dressed, overweight and had way to much make-up on. Her shimmery long pink sequined dress came to her ankles which looked like tree trunk's protruding from her bright red high heels. Wrapped around her neck was a light purple Boa, its feathers tattered and torn even missing in some places. The Woman's Bright red hair was tied in a bun and her eyes heavily pasted with Blue and green make-up and tanned powder was caked on her face. Lile cleared his throat and Got up to leave with a snort in her direction Ghost followed, away from the lady. A drunken man stumbled past him, a smug look smeared in his face grey crud splattered on his sleeve. In the moments that Followed Lile didn't catch all that was going one moment the man is pushing past him the next a girl has him by the collar off his shirt soon followed by the man getting his head beaten off the floor. the noise as his skull connected with concrete multiple times was hollow and it seemed hurting him was effortless to the girl. Ghost growled once and looked up at him.

--What is happening here?-- He asked putting his hand down on the table to watch what was happening the crowd was thin near him so seeing the man being beaten was no issue to Lile. The crowd around was getting rowdy hollering out loud whoops of excitement and whistling at the girl in a street mans usual sick way. "why hello little divided boy" came a Erie tone from behind him. the back of his neck bristled the hairs rising on edge as he felt cool breath on his tattoo. the woman he could see out of the corner of his eye the sparkly dress and the thick stench of her body odor and cheap perfume mix smelled rancid to him. out of instinct the tables structural make up rose t the front of his mind, naming off chemicals and metals in the tables frame. he could altar them without thinking Lile slid his hand away. An outline of a hand print with the faintest hue of blue-purple light was left there.jumping out of his seat he saw the look of dismay on the woman's face- as if he had hurt her feelings.

His face stayed the same- calm and expressionless, the small explosion that would occur if he activated the mark would be small enough that it wouldn't hurt anybody, it would cause a rise of smoke, cause enough of a distraction fro him to get away move to the other side of the room possibly. Taking his thumb he ran it across his index finger, as if he were trying to light a flint. out of no where the table erupted in a blast. the frame collapsing and sending a leg sailing into the ring where the girl still bashed the drunk man around. Through the dust trying to clear he could see the bewilderment on the woman's face. Leaving not time Lile disappeared into the crowd or tried to the people seemed to fade around him. there eyes unsure if they should be watching the girl or him. he sighed. --Crap Lile what have you done now? drawn unwanted attention to yourself you dumb ass-- he thought angrily to himself. Stands of blond hair falling across his face, his beautiful honey golden eyes a blase with he small fire the table has started. though his face showed nothing he grimaced with displeasure.

Яσωαи LOOKED UP FROM THE MAN SHE HAD JUST BEATEN TO WITHIN AN INCH OF HIS LIFE, TOWARDS the young man standing over her. Without taking her eyes of the new arrival, she smashed Dex's head once more into the concrete before standing up. She cracked her neck. "What are you all looking at? Go away!" Rowan barked at the mass of people, and the crowd quickly dissipated. She turned back to the man. "He's all yours. Don't worry, it shouldn't be anything too permanent." Monster slipped out from the inside of her jacket and batted the stranger in the nose with one paw. Rowan made no effort to restrain her cat. "Nice tattoo," she said, tapping her cheek.

Starting to grow bored of simply standing there and obeserving, Kyle idly clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth before he tugged his black beanie hat down over his neck. He guessed he may as well give the Black Market a once over before he headed back to the Divided hide-out.

As he stepped out of the alley he'd been stood in, he lifted his gaze to the air and decided to test out his latest trick with Faith. He whistled two notes, one high then one low, and smiled slightly when he heard that familiar soft cawing floating through the air. Sure enough, a familiar silhouette appeared and Kyle laughed as Faith swooped low and perched on his shoulder. He wrinkled his nose at what she was carrying, dropping the dead rodent into his raised hand. "Oh, thanks, Faith," he chuckled as he held it by the tail then tossed it aside. Faith then headbutted him, her beak softly nibbling at his ear for him throwing away her 'present'. "Urgh, fine," he sighed as he knelt to retrieve the dead mouse, once again holding it by the tail. He then lowered into his jean pocket. He glanced accusingly at Faith. "Happy now?" His expression appeared serious but his tone was playful. Faith headbutted him once more then cawed softly into the air.

Kyle rolled his eyes before he glanced towards the crowd. As always, he was ignored in the mass of civilians as he began to walk towards the Black Market. He had been there a couple of times on the off-chance that he'd see something of interest. He had gotten some useful things there. He'd managed to get bird feed, at one point. But then it turned out to be some sort of poisonous berry - luckily some mice ate them before he could feed them to Faith. Nonetheless, it was intriguing to go there sometimes just to see what some people tried to sell.

Nyx paused when she heard a commotion at the stall she had just left, and turned to see what was up. A girl was sitting on it, talking about how the metal and wires could be used. Nyx listened intently, as though she was interested. When the girl finished, she jumped off the counter and muttered something to the merchant. The illusionist, usually affecting by most peoples gaze, bowed her head when the girl glared hard at her.
Okay, so maybe it was a little rude of me. Damn, I gotta watch my words, cause I am really gonna end up making some powerful enemies. She heaved a sigh. It wasn't in her nature to apologize, but she did feel bad. Adjusting her poncho thing, she turned and walked off, to the fringes of the market. There, she let her hood drop, exposing her neck and the Divided marks on it.
She sat down against the wall, pulling her chin up to her knees and putting her head on them. She half closed her eyes, but remained alert to all those around her.

Nicolai Ruan
The second that Dex was released and on his feet, Nicolai had gotten up and locked the guy's head under his arm, glaring down at the no good narcissist. He could hear a loud blast coming from a table not far from where they were, but he had this guy to deal with first, slamming a fist on the top of Dex's skull. "Thanks…" Nicolai uttered out at the comment of his tattoo, a slight and coy grin appearing on his face before he pushed Dex back a few feet. "You do this again, and I can get you fired. You're not good for business, leaving me to do your clean up duties every week. I ought to break your nose." Nicolai sighed before his eyes widened for a second, the flash of fur just inches from his face. Upon looking back down again, he saw that the girl had a cat. An… interesting cat. It looked like it had been beaten ten times over, but it didn't seem to be in any pain at the moment… He reached out to the cat, scratching the creature under his chin and smirked lightly. Dex seemed a little ticked that Nicolai was hitting it off with the girl that was beating him up not two minutes ago. It was enough to put a sour expression on the shaggy boy's face. "Don't you dare think about it, Dexter. I'm just petting her cat." Nicolai said, not having to look at Dex to know what he was thinking of doing. Nicolai even went to the trouble of calling him the very name that he hated. It was just so nerdy, and for a guy that chased girls, that wasn't the best thing in the world. Dex backed down, though, shoving his hands into his pockets before heading to the restaurant that Nicolai had just left to clean his face.

Pulling his hand away from the cat's fur before looking at the girl and holding out his hand. "The name's Nicolai. If Dex gives you any more trouble, just call me. I'm usually in the store over there." Nicolai said lightly, looking friendly, but not very keen on sticking around too much longer. He just had to make sure that every girl that Dex bothered would know where to go if Dex ever did it again.

"Ɩт'ƨ ROWAN." SHE TOOK NICOLAI'S OUTSTRETCHED HAND AND SHOOK IT. "BE SEEING YOU, THEN," Rowan said, giving a rare, lopsided smile, before casting a venomous glance at Dexter. With that, she stuffed Monster back under her jacket and turned on her heel to leave. But she stopped and turned around. "You look kinda familiar. Have I seen you somewhere before?" Rowan recalled her earlier days at the training facility where she had been labelled as cured. She unconsciously touched the divided brand on the back of her neck and tried to remember where she had seen Nicolai before.

Nicolai Ruan
Nicolai nodded in response, unconfident that he was going to remember her name in the first place. Names just weren't his specialty, and making him remember a date was just as difficult as making him remember names. He was ready to head off on his way again, but before he knew it, the girl had asked if she had seen him before. It struck him as an idiotic question… How would he know if she had seen him before, moving a hand up to his head as he tried to think about any unusual place he had been before. His family had been pretty high class, but he left his home when he was young, so he doubted that this girl had seen him anywhere very special.

"Not sure… If you come here often, then you probably saw me walking home or something. I don't really do much other than eat, sleep, work, and occasionally get that jerk out of trouble." He sighed, having put his hand to his face again, just over his tattoo out of habit. That guy… He bothered too many people, and every time, it was a new person. Never in his life did he have to drag Dex out of a problem with the same person twice. One threat from anyone saying that Nicolai would get him was enough to get Dex off their back. Setting that aside, Nicolai waited, hoping that she didn't try asking him any difficult questions.
