Mayia Arakai Hikamaru
Years of being pushed around… Pulled from what she called home and into a place seen as a beautiful place. This beautiful city was nothing more than atrocious, Mayia's eyes fixed on the street as she sat, crouched int he alleyways of the Black Market. This was the place she spent most of her time, though it was teaming with people. Just too many for her to feel comfortable. The only reason she was here for the calico cat that laid upon her lap, the one that needed even more care than she did to survive. She dragged her fingers across his back and looked at the pills she was able to swipe. The medicine in this place wasn't great, but it kept young Hamlet alive, the cat sound asleep after having been so uncomfortable and restless from the pain of his own heart. When the cat woke himself up again, Mayia let a soft smile crack her lips, a hooded cloak hiding that smile from the Black Market goers. "Good morning." She murmured softly, letting the cat climb up to her shoulders. The kit was young, but not so helpless that she had to dote on him. He was ill, but manageable. A fighter, just like her. That was why she loved the little cat, no matter what happened.
"Time to go home?" She asked him, a low purring in her ear telling her otherwise. She glanced around her, nothing in the alley to stop her, and not a single recognizable sole roaming the markets. Even then, she could hear Hamlet whisper to her, "Something is amiss… We need to be careful, or you might get hurt again." Her smile faded the second she started to walk, disregarding the warning by simply petting the kit. "Hush… I can take a hit, you know." She murmured softly, the fear in her eyes from the thought of having to fight again, but her voice making it clear that she would if she had to. She was glad for the hood on her coat, the one that helped to hide her eyes, along with her long bangs. She would rather not let her weaknesses be known from a single glance that told all of her fear. "Hamlet, want to get something to eat before we go? I have a little money left." She murmured softly, glancing back at the cat who perched on her shoulder, the sweet little creature having moved up to her head and flopped down on his stomach. She could see his little paws hanging in front of her face, but that probably wasn't the bast place for a cat to be in a city like Pith. Well.. As long as no one tried to hurt him, it should be just fine.

Nicolai Ruan
Nicolai did his work quietly, wiping off the tables and forcing that occasional smile at customers. If he scared away any business, he'd lose this job for sure, and this was the easiest job that he was able to get in months. Years, really. He was paying rent for his apartment, so as much as he hated the work that dealt with people, that was the only kind of job that he could get. Hard labour, or public service of any kind forced him to deal with annoying bosses, employees and customers, but it was work, and he got paid decently enough. It made this torture worth while, and gladly as well, he didn't need to stay for much longer. He brought a tray of dishes to the back and was soon dismissed, a sigh passing his lips as he tossed off his his apron and tossed it onto the rack, dressed in a thick, vintage aviator jacket modelled after the ones that had been worn back in the Great War. He kind of envied those people… Their lives were exciting, up until the day that they died. They weren't living in the best time, but heck, anything was better than this. Living a mundane city, doing nothing day in and day out other than sleeping, eating and working like clockwork. He didn't live in the heart of the city, but he still lived in a place where living wasn't very hard at all.
With his golden eyes glinting under the shadow of his hazelnut coloured hair, Nicolai looked up at the murky sky, expecting it to rain at any minute. "What to do…" He huffed softly with his hands tucked away in the pockets of his thick brown pants to keep the chemicals out. He had some time to kill, but what was there to do in this town? Eat? No thanks… He was stuffed from snacking between his runs. Sleep? What was the point of that when he had the time to sleep ten hours before having to get into work. Hang out with friends? Yeah right… Nicolai wasn't the kind to make friends so easily. He preferred not having friends, since he was able to see how much drama went down when people allowed themselves to trust the wrong people. He wasn't going to be letting himself get manipulated like that again.
