Username: Mordacious
WoI Name: Faidra
Gener: Female
Story: “ Standing there in my bulky wooden armor, I glared up at my mentor silently, seething. ‘Why one more time? I mean you no disrespect, Arkhantos, but we’ve been working on lunges for almost the entire day now.’ I murmured, quickly avoiding his gaze and looking around us. As I watched the blue grass play gently with the breeze, I sighed. He let out a grunt, either of exhaustion or annoyance as he sat down.
" ‘Faidra, I believe you can become a successful warrior. I truly do-’ I cut him off, tail beginning to bristle as I recalled the lecture I had heard so many times before. ‘But you just need to put the extra effort in. You've seen the prey, now you need to advance towards it. I know I know!' I snapped, turning my head away from him impatietly. 'Faidra....' Arkhantos began, 'Fai, I don't think you are quite ready to go on your quest for armor.' Arkhantos said gently, giving me a look of sympathy and pity. My heart fell from its home in my chest to the pit of my stomach, blackening with a storm cloud of emotions. 'Not ready?' I gaped, I was already behind. My older brother and sister had already undergone their armor quest, and, needless to say, returned successfully. 'How in Isket am I not ready?' Thoughts raced through my head, and in a furious attempt to clear them, It shook myself violently. 'I've gone through months of training. I'm almost a full grown warrior! I-' It was his turn to cut me off now. Standing, he gave me a look of annoyance. 'You have no patience, no respect toward your pack-mates. You are not mentally prepared for the journey.' Dipping his head once, he got up and walked away. 'We will continue our lunges
tomorrow ' He said in an emotionless voice.

" During the night, as I lie there restlessly, a plan formed in my mind. A reckless one, that's for sure, but nonetheless it was a plan. Rising, I didn't bother to shake myself free of any dirt. I didn't want to wake my brother, he would only try to stop me. Padding out quietly, all I heard was the sound of my beating heart and the soft click of my claws on dirt.
"Once I made it out into the cool night , I filled my lungs with it's crisp air. Padding onward, I headed toward Arkhantos and I's usually training grounds. I needed to pick up my armor. Pulling the armor from the bush as quietly as I could, I sliped it on and shook myself. Am I really going to do this? I asked myself, I needed to. I
wanted to. As it was, my pride already ached. I was an older teenie, and I hadn't even gotten down lunges..
" Swiping my tongue over my maw once, I trotted onward toward the darkness that was the forest. I told myself that there really was no
true danger, after all, it was all just a pup's tale. As I trotted along with leisure I thought of all of the horror stories my brother had told me. 'And as the Kronador swiped with it's huge, scaly, scarred hand the little pup jumped to the left! Easily missing its attack.' A proud smile on his face, Xander looked down at me curiously. 'Then,' he said, touching his nose to mine. 'He jumped forward and gobbled it up whole!' My eyes widened as I gasped. 'Nuh-uh!' I said, standing up and pawing at his nose. "Momma told me not to believe any more of your 'silly' stories.' I had said proudly, holding my head high as I turned quickly and hit his face with my tail. 'Oh yeah? I guess you won't hear anymore of my silly little stories ever again, then!' He yipped, sitting down expectantly. That caught my attention, spinning around I raced back to him. 'I'm sorry! Tell me more! Please?' Plopping down infront of him, I waited patiently for my next story.
" Sitting down, I licked my lips again. The beaten-down path seemed to go on forever. 'Danger? Seriously? All I see is dirt and bugs.' I grumbled, standing up and picking up speed. To my left, a few twigs snapped. It's just the wind, I told myself, It's only the wind. Padding onward, I slowed again. What was that smell? It was vile, it smelled of rotten meat and decaying plants. The hair on my neck rose on it's own, but I hardly noticed it. Surely the hunting party hadn't been out here. This was old terriorty... Besides, 'danger' lurked here didn't it?
" My tail bristling as well, I spun around to look at in in annoyance. 'Will you just-!' My words got caught in my throat as I inhaled the foul stench of a Kronador. My eyes looking up sheepishly, I noticed that it as an adolescent. It had been quietly creeping along behind me for quite some time now, but I was too deep in my thoughts to notice it...Until now. Spinning around I let out a growl. I could fend this monster, right? Couldn't I?! I have to admit, I doubted myself.
" 'Well, looks like it's time to use our lunge lesson Arkhantos!' I chuckled darkly, propelling myself forward I aimed for it's neck. I missed by a at least a tail-length, and I ended up biting it's lower chest. From what I could tell, it was a female that was attacking me. She had no horns, only that long, slick mane...Not to mention the two inch long claws. My teeth only grazing the skin, I knew I was in trouble. My back was exposed and she had an easy chance to snap it and kill me right there. Ducking down, I ran under her as she bellowed with fury.
" 'Haha, missed me!' I mocked, my tail wagging once. Perhaps it was the shock of it all, but I was strangely exhilarated by all of this. Running between her legs, she kicked me with those dreadful hooves causing me to fall over. She backed up quickly, lifting one of her scaly hands to claw me to death. Yowling as she claws came down on my shoulder, I rolled to the side. I decided it was best not to waste my breath with a come back this time as I got up and ran head-on towards her again. Taking a sharp right turn, I skidded to the side and ended up facing her side. Her belly was exposed! Was their underside as soft as ours? Taking a chance, I ran forward and rammed right into her, knocking the breath out of her. As she was regrouping I took a leap of faith and bit as hard as I could into her soft underside. She yowled in horror and fell to her side, gasping for air.
" The sounds it made...Still haunt me today... But it's life, nonetheless. And this war
must come to an end. But anyway, back to the story. Blood stained my muzzle, it dripped down slowly staining my white chest fur. Now the terror had finally set in. Backing up, I ran, tripping over my own four paws. I needed to get away from that noise. What if...What if more came to it's assistance?
" You were right, Arkhantos, I thought dreadfully as I ran. I wasn't ready for this. As the sun's rays started to peak through the underbrush, I kept on running. This path had to end somewhere... The armor cave couldn't be that far ahead. Skidding to a halt, I finally noticed how dry my tongue was. The blood did little to quench my thirst. 'Maybe I'll die out here...' I rasped dramatically, limping onward. My shoulder now burned with pain, and to my dismay I noticed I had three small streams of blood flowing down my leg. Whimpering, all I wanted was my armor. To slip on that cool... metallic armor was all I wanted. The wooden armor did little to protect me in my battle with the female Kronador, in fact, it didn't really serve a purpose at all anymore. The dark mahogany wood was covered with scratches and the chest plate hung by a sad piece of leather.
" Up ahead there was a cave, beautifully carved into the face of a red mountain. Marching towards it, my shoulder still ached and burned. Oh geez, I thought dreadfully, coughing once. What was that smell? It smelled like someone left their armor just lying there... Just wanting the rust to encrust it. Sneezing, I vaguely wondered if someone had died here, and that's why it smelled like metallic armor. It didn't occur to me, until later on, that the metallic smell was the smell of my quest's success.
" My eyes widened as I entered the cave, I had hardly noticed it's contents before... I was far to lost in my own mind. My jaw dropping slightly, I gazed around. In the cave lie armor, scattered here and there left by something known as 'humans' from long before. 'Wha...' Had I done it? I couldn't have. No, not really. The journey was supposed to take forever, Xander had told me so. But...To be honest, it felt like it had been forever. The Kronador, the thirst. (Even though I was gone for only about half of the night and day all together)
" Limping through the rows and rows of gleaming armor, I saw one that caught my eye. It's craftsmanship was exquisite.... It lie there, just glistening and gleaming silently...Waiting for me to try it on. Slipping off the wooden armor, I padded over to the unique armor. Once again, only the sound of my heart beating and my claws clicking on the hard-packed dirt floor filled my ears. Leaning down, I slid the armor onto my back, ignoring the cries of distress coming from my shoulder wound. It felt like home in a nutshell. The armor cooled me down to my skin, sending a shiver through my spine all the way to my tail. I felt complete, finally. I felt like I finally fit in.
" I headed home soon, proudly showing off my new armor. Arkhantos wasn't as mad as I expected him to be, considering I completely disobeyed his orders. He told me we still had much to work on, all while glaring at me quietly....But in the end his gaze softened and he congratulated me. 'Well done, Faidra.' Wagging my tail, I headed off to show Xander what I'd received."

"That's all, little one." I said softly, thumping my tail against the soft earth. Eowyn looked up at me with her curious green eyes and I wagged my tail more. "Do you have any questions?" I asked, tilting my head to the side as I chortled. "No..." She trailed off, looking down at her paws as she thought. "So that's how you go that armor?" She asked, wagging her tail as she trotted around the small fire over to me. "That isn't all for now, is it? Please tell me it isn't Fai!" She pleaded, yipping as she pawed at my side playfully. "How about you tell me how you met Vouno next?" She asked, eyes gleaming with excitement. "Another time, little friend. Go play with the other pups now...I'm tired." I said, rolling my eyes slightly. "Even-" I was cut off by a yawn. "Warriors need naps sometimes."
