Leopard geckos don't require that much care, I have friends who have leos who live In non heated tanks with bark and have a super basic setup and have been alive for about 10 years. My guide is just a simple guide for people who want a simple pet
Sounds like your friends don't take good care of their geckos, even if they have made it to 10 years. Reptiles require specific temperatures, and a heat gradient, and bark is not a suitable substrate for leos. I've seen people keep 2 inch standard goldfish alive in bowls for 10 years, and they most definitely are not okay, even though they have managed to make it to 10 years. Leos are already fairly simple to care for, which makes them a great beginner reptiles, so if you friends feel the need to cut back even further, then maybe they need to to reevaluate if they have the time, patience, and responsibility to properly look after their pets.
Thank you. My point exactly. And if you haven't done proper research, just get information from friends, you might as well kiss your gecko goodbye.
Or wait. Maybe you shouldn't. Because it's not healthy.
This is my point. Some day,I will be opening a healthcare and well being center for geckos and other reptiles to owners who have no sense in keeping one of these pets. I will give small healthcare lessons, like clipping claws, because sometimes you can clip them yourself, and feeding, for people who think these pets are simple and easy!
They don't require a ton of care or a lot of area, but your friend's leopard geckos are NOT happy or healthy. They're just lucky that their geckos haven't died without a heat source.
I fight for the people who have a heart and do their research before they get a pet that they will have to care for. They research everything, and want to be sure they have all the supplies they need.
Leopard geckos die without a source of heat, and heat lamps AND heating pads sustain a proper heating source. That should keep it at a resonable temperature for a DESERT gecko.
So,yes. Everything on my list is completely necessary for a leopard gecko to be happy and healthy.
