*awkwardly pops in*

It's me again, and I'm still looking for the right dog food...the allergy symptoms haven't stopped with my dog after switching to Blue Buffalo Wilderness' grain-free salmon formula (I thought perhaps he might've been allergic to grain, turns out he isn't).

Comparing between Amazon and a website called "Dog Food Advisor" that I found, I found that Instinct Grain-Free dry food is the best value with the highest rating, plus, it's listed as "hypoallergenic" on the Dog Food Advisor website.
What my dog is allergic to is still a mystery; we're considering getting allergy testing done but are a bit intimidated by the price.

Note that my parents are still adamant about not feeding raw nor home-cooked meals, i.e. they're going to stick with dry food and I can't change their opinion no matter what.

Anyone have any experience with Instinct (Nature's Variety)?

Of course, I'm really bad with the authority of things, and have been wondering if Dog Food Advisor is indeed a reliable site.

To go along with the conversation, I wouldn't trust it if it's called "Old Yeller" simply because that was the name of a book/ movie. If indeed the dog food was made to ride the flow of the book/movie in order to make some extra money, as it appears from the picture on the bag, then I don't think it would be a very good food. But, of course, that's only my opinion.
Science Diet. Thought it was wonderful and amazing and a gift from the heavens when reading the package.
We gradually began switching our dog over to Natural Balance at the time and he ended up picking up the Science Diet pieces and dropping them like gifts randomly around the house, and then eating the Natural Balance.

What's your budget? In my opinion the best kibble out there right now is Orijen.

Other than that, I'd go raw.

But I don't have good resources in my area. :p

I feed Instinct right now to both of my cats and my pooch. They all thrive on it.

I switched from TOTW, which isn't the best, but it certainly a great food, to the Instinct and my goodness.. Her muscle tone has gone up leaps and bounds and I think her thighs are like rocks. xD I really like this food and so do my animals.

It can take two months for a dogs system to be clear of the allergen and for you to start noticing a difference. 3 weeks for there to to be a difference in coat. My b/fs dog was broken out in hives for.. almost 4 months while we figured out what he was allergic to, it ended up being fish. Dogs can be allergic to random things, you just have to sort through and find it.

We feed him raw and have the dry food for when people watch him so they don't have to deal with raw meat, which bothers people for some reason. We always have dry food out for him if he wants it, but he doesn't eat it. He likes his Northwest Naturals, raw food and he eats it frozen or thawed even though we try to leave it to thaw.

You're no supposed to feed raw and kibble at the same time and having kibble out all day is a bad thing as well.

Raw and kibble digest at difference rates so you can not get all the nutrients. Raw and kibble should be fed 10-14 hours a part.

Also, when a dog gets hungry their body begins to produce large amount of stomach acid to be able to fully break down the food. If a dog can graze and eat whenever they please their bodies do not produce these large amounts of acid therefore they can not break down the food to the fullest and reap the benefits.

@ Cardinal
Thanks for your help; I'll recommend it to my parents.
I read the reviews and it seems to be a very nice quality food.

Good idea, another reason why I am glad I switched to a raw diet.

You know...the more I feed Okami her raw meals and the longer she is on it, the more the idea of feeding processed kibble just seems gross >.>

Ehh...that's just me though. If I can help it, I don't think I'm ever going to go back to feeding kibble for any dogs I ever have...

*random thoughts* XD

Yep, I saw the recall and took back the bag I had JUST BOUGHT. As in.. a couple hours before. -.-' No pets have actually gotten sick from it, only people.. A few of which have been hospitalized. Ick. Having a toddler.. I'm more than used to seeing her try to taste to kibble or shoving her hands into her mouth and other peoples faces after handling dog food. Ugh. I'm not taking any chances. Besides, I think I'm switching off of TOTW. My store now carries Earthborn Holistic which I've ordered off line before and really liked. TOTW is roughly 45 dollars for 30lbs whereas Earthbron is 50 for 28lbs. More expensive for less.. Right? Not really. TOTW is $1.12 to feed a day whereas Earthborn is 90 cents a day to feed. ;D

Link: A friend of mine sent me this the other day and I found it super interesting. Your thoughts? http://rufflyspeaking.net/blog/choosing ... ee-kibble/

Does anyone feed their dog Chappie? My dog is on Chappie at the moment, and she is a healthy agility dog. It's cheap with no artificial stuff. Is this good for dogs or not? apparently it's good for dogs with sensitive stomachs, which my dog has, because it is so bland.
