Guess: The atmosphere is full of dirt, dust, smog and even rust and sulfur so when the light reflects off it at sunrise and sunset, it usually gives a reddish or orange glow. The sky is blue during the day because different colors have different wave lengths. Red, orange, yellow, and green have long wavelengths and pass straight through the atmosphere. Blue and violet are very short waves, so that is why blue is reflected off. The waves are too short to pass straight through.

Guess: The colors of the sky are created because the atmosphere between the sun and the earth consists of many different particles and chemicals. The sky directly surrounding the earth though, mainly consists of nitrogen and oxygen molecules as well as the dust and dubree kicked up by humans and animals on the earth's surface. So, when the light hits these particles it is broken up and the different wavelengths are scattered in different directions.
