Starshade!! wrote:Oooh!! Realistically colored cats <3 I can figure out what their kittens would actually look like if they were all real. I know cat genetics...or...I'm studying them. Anyways, since her mate is a tortoiseshell (Tortoiseshell is extremely rare in male cats) He can only pass down one color, Red or Black (I'm not going to go into detail as to why...it would take a looong time xD). Which one would he pass down?
Starshade!! wrote:Hehe, tortoiseshell and calico are the exact same thing xD Calico is just tortoiseshell with white. Calico is actually even more rare than tortoiseshell, because you'd need the whitespotting gene thrown in there xD
Well, I'd need to know what color he'd pass down. The genetics are different with either gene...See, a tortie (Tortoiseshell) tom is a mutation. Because of that, he is able to pass down only one color to his children. At least, that's how it is in real life xD
Starshade!! wrote:Hehe, it's fine. And tortie isn't a breed. It's just a color xD
Got it...so...if they parents don't carry anything:
Tortie tom (Red - Flamelicked) x Brown tabby (Rocktalon):
Male kits: Black, blue, brown tabby, blue tabby
Female kits: Tortie, dilute tortie, torbie, dilute torbie
A dilute tortie is, instead of black and red, is blue and cream. A torbie is a tortie cat with tabby stripes
