To adopt a jbd dragon you must go to the dragon's thread (which you should be able to access on the front page from the list of jbds) and follow the artist's guidelines to adopt (like a form to fill out, etc...) They are free to adopt, but only if you win one. Most contests for the jbds that I've seen were contests that test creativity and artistic flair
