Twinkling and glistening lights touch my skin and it feels so right,
Warm glow a calming effect, it spurs me into action and then,
the tinsel shimmers galliantly like soldiers marching ironically.

Shining lights draw almost everything, like moths to the flame.
The lights remind you, of the joy and the colors bright and joyful.
Even if there was a time, this holiday is to be chased a time of merriment,
Cast aside your woes like frivolous cares.

Jump, leap, sing like the bounding matriarch before you.
Even if your life might end every year,
like the deer bounding in the wood.

Hm, feels like I need to say something about this.. It's not bad, I promise so don't worry! xD

Customs and breeding will start opening at random times once this winter event is over.
I know it have been long and I'm sure some of you have waited enough for the breeding function, well, there's not much more wait left. <3

Also; If you have changed your username you need to tell me so I know this!
On my list I only have the username from when you first posted in the thread, so I have not updated with your new ones!

Lights glimmered and twinkled, and a young woman stared in awe at the deer in the window tilting her head first one way then the other the blonde examined the flashing doe from all angles. "She would be perfect" blonde sighed before looking down at the floor

The doe ran, her ears laid back anxiously, her young fawn beside her was panting heavily from the exertion of their long journey. When finally the mother decided that they both could use some rest she slowed, eventually pulling to a stop. The faint sound of baying dogs made the doe's eyes widen in fear while her fawn looked at her in confusion. Grimly she looked around, though the doe had no firm recollection of trees and greenery she did remember her mother telling her of a time when there were mighty living things that grew from the ground, brown and green in spring and summer, and brilliant hues of gold and red in fall. But she had had the most trouble believing that, the only one that sounded plausible was what the "Trees" looked like in winter. Tall, grim, and shadowy. Similar to the spired rocks that grew jaggedly out of the cold, hard earth today. However the doe wasn't in the mood for reminiscing, her fawn and her were in danger. The hellhounds were after them. Big, mutated dogs with three eyes and poisonous fangs, a literal nightmare for the few natural deer that lived there. When the baying increased in volume the doe nervously pushed her fawn forward.....and into a pool of toxic waste. In horror the doe watched helplessly as her fawn wallowed in the mutation causing toxins. Finally though the doe was able to reach forward and pull out her fawn, before promptly hiding in a thicket of stone where the hellhounds would never find them.....though the doe wondered if perhaps death at the hellhounds fangs would not have been a better fate for her infected child.

~*~ Three Years Later ~*~

Anatemă hesitantly poked her head out of the hidden cave in which she lived, her mutation had forced her to become a solitary entity, living apart from her brethren and trying to survive alone without a friend in the world. Her mother had died only a few short months ago, making Anatemă's solitude complete. Though the pretty doe had a grim feeling that her mother had only really visited out of guilt, since she had been the one who had accidentally pushed Anatemă into the toxic mutation inducer in the first place. But Anatemă doled out no blame, she couldn't fault her mother for not being genuine in her desire to see the "mutated freak" out of anything more than motherly obligation. Though Anatemă's mutation wasn't damaging or harmful to others, it was a danger to any who might be near her. The fawn spots of her youth had never disappeared, rather they had changed to display red and green spots that brightened and flashed, every moment of every day for as long as she would live....which wouldn't be long at all, should a hellhound or some other monstrosity see her.

Today was tricky, Anatemă needed to slip out of her cave and into the meadows, that were protected by steep cliffs on all but one side, a task which meant she would need to travel for about half a day to reach the relative safety they provided over the spring and summer months. Knowing that this trip was necessary to her survival Anatemă took a deep breath and started to head towards the Hidden Meadows, though she kept her ears and eyes on the alert for any sign of danger she knew that this journey would be measured in not hours or days, but rather minutes and seconds, where every small, split-second decision could and would determine her fate. Hellhounds had been reported, sniffing around near the normal herds and Anatemă knew that didn't bode well for her, still she could delay the trip no longer, already she ran the risk of encountering the blistering temperatures of early spring, since she had already delayed leaving a few weeks earlier, due to the hellhounds proximity. However it was now or never, and she knew full well that not attempting the journey would result in death. Nothing grew here in the Valley during the blazing heat of Spring and Summer.

To Anatemă's relief the journey thus far was proving to be rather peaceful and uneventful. However her stroke of good luck was about to change. The sudden hellish baying sound that reached her ears struck terror into her heart. The hellhounds! They've caught my scent! she thought fearfully to herself, panic making her normally well-organized thoughts disintegrate into a confused muddle. All she knew was one instinctive drive. Run! And so she did, bounding fleetly over the charred and grim terrain, her hooves crushing the black stalks of poisoned plant-life that grew pitifully throughout this place. For once Anatemă found that she truly hated her mutation, it had brought her naught but pain and even greater hardship than that of the other deer. With a frightened snort she veered around a corner and her heart stopped for a fraction of a second. A yawning abyss, a giant gaping black maw that lead into some other place. Or at least, that's what it seemed to Anatemă. Still the sound of the hellhounds grew even louder, and she realized that she had no choice. Maybe that's the truth of it, none of us have a choice, we all simply must live with the pain and heartbreak of our circumstances. She thought miserably, even as she threw herself into the opening.....and felt herself
falling.....
falling farther.....
and farther.....
Until there was nothing, just her, the darkness, and the feeling of weightlessness.

~*~ After Much Time Passed ~*~

Anatemă woke to a world of colour and oddities. Strange things grew from the earth, multi-coloured and frightening, with purple and blue vegetation adorning long striped branches. However even odder was the plethora of creatures that stood in a semi-circle around her. Their heads tilted curiously. It took the poor doe a long while to realize that she was looking at a herd of deer, but each possessed bizarre mutations, from three eyes, to six legs, to antlers growing from his head and rump, along with a final majestic stag who snorted out smoke. Uncertainty flickered through Anatemă's eyes. Is this real? Surely not, I must be dead, or dreaming. She decided sadly, her eyes closing. She'd rather just fade into oblivion than be forced to see a world that could never exist. A sudden disgusted snort caught her attention, and she looked up to see yet another deer approach, a doe with a superior glint in her eye. "Don't waste your time with this one. She's to busy wallowing in self pity and believing this to be a dream, she won't be of any use to us. Don't even think of letting her stay Romulus." Anatemă stared in shock at the red doe who had a large spine-like marking along her back, who were these deer who could read minds? Turning now to the fire-belching stag who had been watching her quietly she wondered what was going on. Finally though, after the spine-doe spoke softly into his ear, he stamped a hoof and nodded. "Welcome to the herd of Mutants, you arrived here through the Abyssin. A portal of sorts leading to this place. Here the creatures with strange adaptations thrive. We are the only deer who dwell here. If you so wish you may join us. But beware, on your own you don't stand much of a chance." He flicked an ear and the assembled deer turned and started to leave. Anatemă struggled to her hooves, she knew that she needed them, and more than that, she wanted to finally BELONG somewhere. Anatemă would have sworn that the red doe dipped her head in approval. And in that moment she made her decision. "Wait for me!!!! I'm coming with you!!!" she called, and shakily trotted after them....and was welcomed into a world as bright as the one her mother had once explained to her.

[Whew! This was fun to write <3 I fell in love with this doe immediately, but more than that I pictured this story and had to write a bit of it for her. It sort of ties in with my other two deer, Romulus and Whisper, both of which appear in this story, hope you enjoyed reading it, and good luck to everyone else who enters! All your writing is fantastic <3]

A rather small doe stood near the edge of a frozen pond while her body leaned forward as if peering into it's frozen surface. She was an innocent and inexperienced young thing, for she was just beginning to enter adulthood for the first time. She was still perfectly curious, and perfectly vulnerable. Although she was still young, she was still a bit small for a doe of her age. What she lacked in size, she made up for in wit. A tentative hoof stepped forward and daintily scratched the surface of the ice. It was cold to the touch and quite brittle. The ice shattered as soon as the doe applied pressure to it. Her hoof plunged through the icy water of the pond as coldness sent shivers up her spine. Immediately, she retracted her soaking wet leg and jumped back from the pond. She knew well enough that it was no use to try again, for she would surely freeze herself to death. She remained planted firmly where she was standing though, but the reason for doing so was unknown. It seemed that this peculiar little doe was intent on crossing this pond against all better judgement, rather than simply walking around. Perhaps something below the surface was the answer to this mystery?

She gazed intently at the pond with piercing green eyes. She was most definitely searching for something, but what? The doe had a concentrated look on her face, and her eyes shone with frustration. Her eyes peered through the hole in the ice she had created, looking for a sign. There! Was that it? The doe thought she had seem a glimmer of silver flash through the murky water, but she couldn't have been sure. That was just enough reason for her to dare try crossing this pond again, for she had to reach the center somehow. Suddenly, she lurched forward in a leap of faith, perhaps the ice at middle of the pond was thicker than she had perceived? This would be her fatal mistake. She scampered across the slippery surface of the icy pond, her limbs flailing frantically to regain balance. The ice surrounding her petite body began to crack, a sickening sound rang throughout the chilly morning's air. Her heart stopped for a moment. Then, just pure relief. The ice had not broken all the way through, but she had to be very careful.

I was laying there, crying and depressed. I slowly sat up, while the cold wind blew on my face. I didn't know where I was. Was I dreaming, or was this reality? The last thing I remembered was seeing these glowing lights from a distance. Then at that moment, I remembered where I was. I was in the forest! I was freezing, the snow making my feet all cold and numb.
EEEEEEEEEEEEK! EEEEK!
What was that sound? I stood up quickly and ran around frantically trying to find out what that screeching noise was. Then I saw it again, the same flashing lights I saw when everything around me went black. I creeped closer to the flashing lights. The lights were so beautiful, shimmering green and red. There it was, a beautiful doe. The fur was brown with a shade of darker tan. The odd part was it's flashing lights on it's back. But then at that moment, I realized why the doe was screeching in pain. The doe had a huge wound that was open. I quickly ran to the nearest bush and pulled off a ton of leaves that were soft and smooth. I then wrapped all of the leaves around the wound to stop it's bleeding. The doe licked my face, expressing how it felt about me. The doe was still in pain. I left the doe and roamed around the forest looking for smething the doe could use as a blanket and pillow. I then found a dried up cotton plant. I picked all of the cotton and hurried back to the doe. She was still lying there in pain. I remembered I had a sewing needle in my pocket so I sewed the pieces of cotton together to make a nice blanket. I then found some bird feathers on the floor and rearranged a pillow using bird feathers and some leftover leaves and cotton. The doe then shortly fell asleep.
ZZZZZZZZZZZ........
I then fell asleep also.
2 hours later.......
I woke up. My head was buried in the snow. I ran over to the tree where the doe was last sleeping. She was gone. But then something happened. It was so cold that my hands were red and I couldn't take it anymore. I fell down to the ground and everything went black. The wind blew and blew while I layed there, with pain on the ground.
WHOOOOOOOSHH
One day later...
I woke up in a hospital bed. Ever since that day with the doe I always felt that there was a magical side to planet Earth. I now study doe in the forest, hoping to spot that little doe I found that day........

Many, many, years later......

I was in my old stage. I was helpless and crippled. My age didn't stop me that winter day, I remember it just like yesterday. I was walking in the forest for the last time in my life. I saw the same lights. It was the same doe. This time she wasn't alone; she had deer babies! They were like rainbows full of love and laughter. I was very old so the coldness and the wind knocked me off my feet onto the ground. I ly there.........I never woke up.......I'm guessing that my spirit is telling you my story. May I RIP...........

The Doe's Perspective......

Hello. I'm the doe that the guy named Burning told you about. I am...*cough*...g-g-ge-getting very old now. My babies have grown up into big bucks and does. I'm all alone now. They all have families. I'm depressed and living in this forest alone. I visit them from time to time, but not anymore. I can't find them. I hope they're okay! *cough* ...Well a-an-anyways, I-I-III live with a risk of getting hunted. I'm not as fast as I was back then. The strangest thing is, my lights are still glowing as bright as they were in the good 'ol days. *BOOM* *BOOM* *CHICK-CHICK*....
Storyteller: The doe mysteriously vanished. Nobody has seen the beautiful doe since........

Note***This was so much fun to write! Especially the 'Many Years Later' part. =)
EDIT: I also added 'The Doe's Persepctive' part. It's told by the doe's point of view. =)

Lol, I decided to go ahead and enter. xD

Name: Kora "nicknamed Flicker"

Story:

Once upon a time, there was a mischievous little doe.....okay, okay, I know, right? You're probably thinking something to the effect of: "Oh gawd, not one of those stories" or "Here, we go, again..." So I'm going to spare you this time. You see, I'm not your typical doe. My spots? Yeah, they flash. That's why my friends call me Flicker. Other than that, I'm perfectly normal. Except for the fact that I'm speaking to you right now. Okay then, maybe I'm not so normal. But anyway, this is my story. The story of a "not so normal" doe, with an attitude problem, that always seems to find herself in the worst possible situations.

"Calypta, do you have to be so darn picky?" I mumbled heatedly as the slightly melanistic doe admired her reflection for the millionth time. "But, but my ears just don't like right...a-and he's sooo handsome...let me look again." I roll my eyes, sulking over to a nearby tree to stare off into space. It was my job, as the "friend/slave", to support my dear Calypta in every situation. But it was such tedious work. She wasn't even that melanistic, yet she lorded it over everybody. She was the most eligible batchlorette in the entire forest, after all. Yes, that was a direct quote from the lady herself. I was just a typical doe. My boring pelt was built specifically for survival, not to attract every stag in the woods. And I liked it that way. "KORA!! Help me decide which vine to wear!!" I winced at the shriek, bowing my head low before I appeared at her side. "That one." I said glumly, nosing one covered in pretty honeysuckles. Calypta scowled, pawing at the ground anxiously as she examined the vines once more. A gave a soft moan. We could be here for hours looking at the same vines. My opinion didn't truly matter to her, she just wanted to hear what I had to say so she could pick the opposite one. Calypta eyed me sceptically for a moment before choosing the silver lace vine, giving a small hop. "Why aren't you excited? This is going to be so, much, FUN!!" Rock, somebody hit me with a rock, so I'll be peacefully unconscious through tonight. And maybe half of tomorrow. "Your date, why should I be excited." I huffed desperately, my eyes wandering back to the forest. Calypta gave a huge grin. This did not bode well for my evening. "Because...I made it a double date at the last minute!!! His name is Buck...and he's the silent type, but Kevin's his best friend and says he's a nice guy and that all he needs is the right girl and..." It all started blurring together as I watched her babble on excitedly. I could see her mouth moving, her eyes lit up with a kind of unbearable cheer that kept me awake at night. I continued to watch her, nodding my head vacantly as I thought about how she could possibly talk that long in between breaths. "And all the other deer will be there and oh, these vines are all taken so you'll have to wear this..." I jumped as a funny looking hoop was launched at my neck. I looked down at it with a furrowed brow, opening my mouth to protest. "Calypta...I really appreciate it, bu..." The doe's eyes glittered with joy as she viewed my new "necklace", my heart immediately sinking. This was what I would ware, I could see it written all over her face. "You. Look. GORGEOUS!!!" The doe tittered happily, my shoulders slumping with dismay. I looked down at the green, irregular shaped hoop once more, examining it a little closer. Christmas lights, left over from last winter. Calypta must have nabbed them, the red and green shinys immediately becoming part of her envied collection. I shrugged, the look starting to grow on me, and glanced toward the sky. The clouds were thick, the rumble of thunder rising up over the hills. "Uhhh, what about the weather? It looks pretty ominous. Do you think Dock and Heaven will even show up?" I asked with growing enthusiasm, struggling to try and remember the two's names. They were all pretty much the same, and it wouldn't matter anyway if they both turned tail and ran due to the storm. Calypta shot me an exasperated look, smoothing her pelt just so before answering. "It's Buck and Kevin, and yes."

We trotted at a steady pace through the forest, the soft dirt packing into our hooves as we trudged forth. The clouds continued to grow darker and darker, thus causing my mood to lighten substantially. If Spuck and Deven were no where to be seen, we could go home and play in the river. There was nothing better than a river in a thunder storm. The exhilaration, the cool splash of the spiking waves...pure harmony with the elements. We stopped on a hill, Calypta scouring the area with contempt. "THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN HERE!!!" she shouted into nothingness, her bottom lip poking out as she gave a loud snort. I poked my chest out hautily, stepping up beside her with an angry growl. "What jerks!! How dare they be late! Tell ya' what, how 'bout we show them who's boss, leave here and go play in the stream? Then they can stand out here in the rain!" Calypta's glare turned to me, my legs taking a few involuntary steps back. "I think, that you wanted this to happen!" she spat, my ears flattening as I contemplated what to do next. This was how it always worked. If something didn't go her way, she blamed me. Then, after she cooled off for a while, she'd come looking for my shiny, cinnamon coat. After a series of in-depth apologies and bribes, I'd be her minion once more. "Calypta, you know that I love parties...this hurts me just as much as it hurts you..." I internally gagged at my own words, my mind really going YES, nobody showed up! Now about that river... but it was all for nothing. Calypta's eyes were reproachful as she backed away, the doe hatefully darting into the forest without another word. "Calypta!" I called hopelessly, but it was no use. I gave a deep sigh as I looked around. "Well, looks like it's just me and the storm..." I said with delight, my eyes flickering to the heavy cloud cover. To my surprise and sharp discomfort, the clouds were begining to churn, right above me. I stumbled backwards as I looked on in horror, the wind beginning to howl. This wasn't right...no wonder the others hadn't came! I had to get out of here! Now! But before I could run, the clouds dipped down, my hooves swept off the ground before I could make a sound. I gave a desperate keen as I was lifted, lifted away and then slung into the middle of the twister.

I drifted in and out of consciousness as I was carried on the wind. I didn't even notice that the twister hadn't moved from it's birth place, or that I was the only thing it was carrying. All I knew was that there was light. Lightning crackled and flashed around me, wrapping around my torso as I whipped in a circle. My necklace, the strand of Christmas lights, they had slithered off my neck and wrapped around my body. I started to struggle, but I thought better of it. I was too tired, too sleepy to fight. Every time the lighting coiled around my body, the lights would begin to glow.
CRACK.
FLASH.
BOOM.
Red and Green flashes settled into my fur.
CRACK.
FLASH.
BOOM.
My eyes began to roll back, the green cord melting into my fur along with the lights.
CRACK.
FLASH.
I passed out.
BOOM.

"Kora?" I heard a fightened, but distant voice say. "Kora...i-is that you?" My eyelids fluttered as I recognized the voice. "Calypta?" I croaked feebly, pinching my eyes shut as I stiffly attempted to stand. We were back on the hill again, on the ground, and I couldn't seem to gather my footing. I was dizzy, so dizzy, and...my eyes suddenly flew open, memory flooding back. The Christmas necklace was gone. As soon as I my eyes opened, I gave a frightened yelp. The lights, they were my fur now. They flickered brilliant hughes of green and red, my mouth falling open as I looked upon them. "What happened? Spill!" Calypta demanded playfully, tapping her hind hoof with inpatients. "The twister! Didn't you see it?" I coughed dumbfoundedly, my eyes wide with shock. Had she not seen what happened? No, this was not all in my mind...I was covered with flashing dots!! Flashing ones!! Calypta gave a dainty shrug as she ignored my last statement, as if I were totally out of my mind, turning her head excitedly to the bottom of the hill. "Anyway...I have somebody here to meet you!!" she bubbled, a shy looking stag coming up behind her. He was even shyer, and a little fearful, after he had to squint to look at me. "Chuck? I thought there wasn't going to be a party?" I said with forced amusement, lifting an eye brow as I viewed the sudden influx of surrounding deer. Calypta blew a fuse, but she wasn't given nearly enough time to bite my head off. The stag chuckled lightly, blushing as he looked down. "It's Buck, and you look very nice this evening. You two got here an hour early." he said in a smooth voice, the stag stealing a glance at my pelt once more before gesturing for me to follow. I did, and Calypta gave me a pained glance that said Don't embarrass me too bad as I passed her. I rolled my eyes, trying to figure out what had just happened as we manoeuvred through the party. He led me to a beautiful stream, my spots flickering luminously across the water's surface. He looked at my reflection in the water as I did and then our eyes met. "Look, I saw the twister pick you up, so did Kevin. It was the weirdest think I ever witnessed, and yet you live to stand here before me. What happened?" he questioned in a worried tone, my eyes avoiding his as I tried to come up with an answer. "I-I don't know, I wish I knew. It's all a blur to me now..." I said nervously, my chest beginning to heave with hysteria before Buck stopped me. "Dora, it's okay now. You aren’t hurt and that's all that matters...right?" he told me seriously, his eyes burning into my peripheral. I sniffled quietly, giving a small laugh as my gaze returned to his. "My name is Kora you idgit."

To this day I don't know what happened to me. The christmasy spots remained, and Calypta hasn't said another word about it. Buck and I are paired now(I think he must like the abuse), many years later, but everybody else who knew me thinks I'm a freak. Oh well, I didn't like them anyway. Once a freak on the inside, now a freak on the outside, right? Anyway, I've grown very fond of the spots, so it doesn't really matter. Just like Buck said, though I don't go out in storms much anymore. I hope you enjoyed my fantastic tail(Get it? Tail & Tale? I slay me), and now I shall give you the torturous and inevitable fairy-tail ending you've been waiting for.

THE END
