^
^ they would have been 6-8 weeks old when yiu got them, that's the minimum age they should be sold at.

I got another hamster. She's a ginger longhaired and she's gorgeous, shed been in the shop about month because no-one picked her. :( they 2 rescue hansters they had werent ready for adoption, but mine had been in the shop a while and could have ended up being adopted out. We've called her candy.

It don't remember how much time it took me to be able to pick my one up and for her not to run away, it was probably about 2 months. At first I had to take her tube off because she went in there and didn't come out, and the trick is to pick them up whilst they're sleeping. At the beginning I just had her on my lap and she used to run around and off it, but each time she did that I picked her up and put her back on my lap. She used to run around really fast but now I can hold her in my hand and she just stays there. I don't know how long it will take your sister but the most important thing is to pick them up a bit every day and in the end they will probably get used to it. I cant really say much because Luna is the only hamster I have ever had.

If you put your hand in the cage and let them sit on it they will get used to your scent. Using food always helps, if the hamster associates you with food they will usually begin to trust youe. Younger hamsters are easier to tame , older hamsters may take a little more patience.

I don't adivse picking up a Hamster while they are sleeping at all, it's kinda stressful for them and they can bite, 2 of the Roborovski I had loved to run around my shoulder and they loved to clean themselves at my shoulder as well, I miss them, a lot, I only have Syrian Hamsters and Campbells at the moment.
Congratulation on you new Hamster Blaze, but I would take him to a vet before just to check if it is all okay with him, I rarely buy from a shop but when I buy from it I always take them to the vet first, I had a few cases of unhealthy Hamsters bought there, unfortunately.

The litter I was waiting for didn't born, the female was not pregnant, but I'm now waiting again and this time I'm almost sure she is, since I bred her 6 days ago and she was not in heat until the moment.
Today one of my "customers" or whatever you want to call it, returned one of my Hamsters they adopted from me some days ago, because their daughter lost interest in the Hamster already, seriously? It's a kid with 8 years! It's not her, it's not her responsibility... some parents shouldn't be parents....
I had to put her up for adoption again. *sigh*

Yeah, she was checked over when we bought her by and instore vet, she's getting a check-up from our vet in a couple of days.

I hate it when people give animals up because they're kids have lost interest, my auntie.just bought 2 guinea pigs for her 6 year old and her 2 year old(obviously the 2 year old isn't responsible right now(. We don't think it will last, but atleast if it dosent we will be able to take them on rather than them being sent to a rescue centre(not that I have anything against them, its just I they could be there a long time) or being dumped.

But an eight year old should be old enough to realise the responsibility of owning an animal. I wasnt much older than that kid when I got my first gerbils, and I still have one of them!(the other died of old age :( ) I didn't loose interest in them and I hate the thought of it.

Thanks for the advise about not picking the hamster up whilst she's sleeping,I won't do it anymore. I didn't know it was stressful for them :(

It's fine Lunaestrella, it don't kill them and they can deal with that type of stress, but I wouldn't do it because they can bite you instead, don't be sad because of that, I'm sure you are a good owner, at least I can tell you love and worry about your Hamster and that's great! <3

Blaze<3, well, the responsability still belongs to her parents, as an adult I would never return my Hamster just because my children lost interest in it, in the first place I would never put the responsability in her/him, of course, it's really important to teach the children how to take good care of the animal and having some responsability, but still, it's not their responsability at all, I loved to take care of my first dog, I was a children as well but still, my parents would never let me have the responsability, I loved him and I remember doing a lot of things with him and taking care of him but anything else would be my parents responsability, oh god, how I miss my boy, he was a Boxer... :(
Glad to know that your new Hamster is healthy! :D

(Sorry this was a few pages back, I thought I posted this but I pressed the wrong button, so I guess I'll just post it now).

@Blaze<3 ~ I'm really sorry. But Magic is resting in peace now. I think rescuing a hamster is a really good idea, though.

@♥ Christine ♥ ~ I'm so sorry... But at least Ruth is resting in peace too, now.
