I would like to adopt!
Number: #4

Name: Nocturne
Species: Grey Wolf/Long-Earred Owl Hybrid
Personality: One simple word can sum up Nocturne's personality. That word is conflicted. His personality is made of opposites that are all somehow perfectly balanced. He is optimistic yet pessimistic, caring yet hateful. His personality is distorted in this way because of the two opposite types of influences on him, the wolves and the owls. He is very headstrong and disslikes being wrong. He often jumps to conclusions that lead him to make choices he regrets. Because of the turmoil inside of him, he can be very distressed at times, which is when he turns to those who love him to lift his spirits. Though there are two females who have romantic feelings for him, Nocturne is very lonely. Since he's not quite wolf and not quite owl, he has a hard time with his relantionships, and often dreams of having a mate who's a hybrid, like him.
Likes: Nocturne likes high up places and night-hunting, both are effects of the owl blood inside of him. He cares for his mother, but he doesn't love her. How could he, when she left him in order to keep her mate? He thinks of her often, but he still isn't sure how he really feels about her. He also likes Ellia, the female Long-Earred owl who's his close friend. Being part owl, he's able to talk to her, and has some romantic feelings for her, yet he knows that she could never be his real mate. He deals with the same thing when it comes to Zira, the female grey wolf who also likes him. He's had dreams a few times of a female Grey Wolf/Long-Earred owl hybrid. He often wonders if she's real, or if she's just part of his imagination. When he was about a year old, he vowed to find her one day. Some may wonder why he set his heart on someone who might not even exist, but he longs for someone to love who loves him back and understands him.
Dislikes: Nocturne hates his mother's mate, for he was the reason that Nocturne's mother was forced to leave him for the owls. The one create he hates even more than his father is Amaktuzu, the Long-Earred owl spirit that is Nocturne's real father. Nocturne has never forgiven Amaktuzu for what he did to Nocturne's mother. Nocturne dislikes being by himself, he longs to have a mate. He also dislikes being worshipped by many owls and wolves, yet being shunned by others.
Background: A female grey wolf crept silently along the gorund, her attentions focused on the hunt. Shyla was her name. She sniffed the air.
Yes! The lost deer wasn't far away now. She could see her mate's dark grey pelt through the trees and smiled. Rikadon was the best thing that ever happened to her. He was sensitive, loving, and very handsome.
There! She could see the deer now. Rikadon flicked his tail and they charged ahead as one, and brought the deer down. They were draggeding it back to their den when they saw something small lying on the forest floor ahead. Rikadon turned to her and whispered, "You go check it out, I'll stay here with the prey." Shyla nodded to her mate and crept forward. She soon realized that it was a baby Long-Earred owl that must have fallen out of it's nest. It was very much alive, squirming and chirping. Shyla figured that it's mother would come back, so she left it. Why would she kill it? It wouldn't even count as a small snack to a full-grown grey wolf.
"It's just an owl," Shyla told Rikadon when she came back. They finished dragging their prey to the den, where they ate and then quickly fell asleap.
"Shyla...Shyla...Shyla..." Shyla blinked herself awake when the whispering reached her ears. Rikadon was still asleap, she must have been dreaming. "Come outside...Shyla...Love...Reward..." There was the voice again.
Who is that? What do they want? Mabey it's just my imagination... "My dear...A great reward..." Her curiosity won her over, and Shyla cautiously crept out of the cave. The sight that greeted her outside was stunning. On the lowest branch of a tree across from her, and Long-Earred owl was perched. But this was no ordinary owl. It was ghostly, and obviously a spirit. It's eyes were hollow orbs of light, and it's body was white and shimmering.
"What-What do you want?" Shyla questioned. She was scared, and wanted to turn and run to Rikadon.
"Follow me for your reward," he responded without opening his beak. He took flight, and Shyla wondered if she should follow him. The word "reward" sparked her interest, though, and she decided to follow him. It would later turn out to be the worst choice she had ever made.
The spirit stopped in a clearing, landing on the ground. He turned to Shyla and spoke, "My name is Amaktuzu, the great Long-Earred owl spirit. You chose to spare one of our young today, and for that you shall be rewarded." Amaktuzu took a step closer to Shyla, and she in turn took a step back.
This is getting creepy."I don't want any reward, let me leave," she said quickly, worry seeping into her voice.
"Yes, but I want it," the spirit responded. Shyla tried to run, but the spirit cut her off, grinning evily. She cried for help, screaming Rikadon's name as loudly as she could, but they were too far away. That night; by some strange, evil, magic; Amaktuzu mated with Shyla against her will. It turned out that the
reward was more of a curse.
Amaktuzu disapeared when he was finished with Shyla. She stood alone in the clearing, crying.
What hadn't I just killed the stupid owl chick?! She made her way slowly back to the den, haunted by what had just happened to her. She somehow managed to fall back asleap, the memory tourtering her.
I'll never tell Rikadon.A few months later...Shyla knew that she was pregnant. There was no denying it. She remembered having to convince Rikadon that it was his pup in her womb, and that he had been the one who had mated with her. She had said that things like that happen and don't even realize it, and that she couldn't be happier.
What a lie. This was a mess! She wondered what would happen when Rikadon found out that some owl had been the one who caused this mess, had raped her; and that she had lied to her own mate.
When the day came, Shyla told Rikadon that she needed to be by herself when she gave birth; so Rikadon went out hunting for the day. He had wished her luck before he left, and had told her how much he loved her.
I doubt he'll still love me after he finds out. The birth was an ordeal that took all day. Shyla was exhausted by the end, and barely had the energy to look at the tiny pup beside her.
My son... He had strange tufted ears, and was small for a grey-wolf pup. There were strange designs on his back that looked like someone had painted wings on him, and his fur was light and feathery. There was a strange ridge of fur on his little back, and even though they were closed, Shyla could tell that his eyes would be round, like an owl's eyes. "Your name will be Nocturne, my sweet, sweet Nocturne." she whispered. It was a perfect name, meaning night music.
What do I do?! Being a female, she had natural instincts that told her what to do to keep Nocturne alive, but she knew she couldn't. She tried not to cry as she picked him up and began to carry the pup away from the den. She put him down about a mile away, and tried not to listen to his whimpers. It was for the best. If Rikadon found out, he would surely kill Nocturne, and maby even Shyla herself. Rikadon had been taking on a bad temper lately, and Shyla had no wish to endanger herself. She couldn't run away, either. Rikadon would track her down. Besides, maby some other she-wolf would find Nocturne and take him in.
Yeah right, like that's going to happen.Shyla gently licked her puppy, then turned and walked away.
Rikadon demanded where the pup was, but Shyla simply said that it had been a still-birth, and she had burried him. Shyla was crying the whole time she told the story, and Rikadon believed her. From that day, Shyla tried to get little Nocturne out of her mind, but simply couldn't. She would remember him forever, this scar would remain on her heart forever.
Who would you have grown up to be? What color were your eyes? What would you have looked like if you had grown up? My little, little Nocturne... It turned out that Nocturne didn't die. Amaktuzu had seen the whole thing, and so has Shiga, a female Long-Earred owl spirit. Shiga took Nocturne under her wing, and kept him alive simply by some strange, mystical force. The moment Nocturne could hear, Shiga told him his story, in order to prevent pain later. Therefore, from the moment he could hear, Nocturne hated the parents he never knew, and Amaktuzu. He had a rough childhood, but there was something that helped him through the day. That something was night. He could hunt better at night, an influence of the owl blood in him. Unlike owls, he usually slept at night. From when he was a pup, Nocturne had dreams. Dreams of a female Long-Earred owl/ Grey Wolf hybrid, like Nocturne himself. She was apparently the same age as him, and stunningly beautiful. He often wondered if she was out there, somewhere; and promised to find her someday. She appeared to be lonely, like him, unable to fit in. Nocturne felt just as awkward around the owls as he was around wolves.
He met Ellia when he was about a year old. She was a female Long-Earred owl, and became close friends with Nocturne. By this time, Nocturne had also became flriends with Zira, a female grey wolf. Both of the females had romantic feelings for him, but he was never able to return them. Nocturne was at an age where he longed for a mate, but knew he would never be truely happy with someone who was only like half of him. He spent time with both females, hunting, playing, walking, and talking. Since he was a hybrid, Nocturne could speak owl and wolf, so he was able to confer with both of his friends.
His life was alright, untill he met his mother. It had been a snowy night, and Nocturne had been hunting. By accident, he happened upon a female grey wolf. Because of his small build, Nocturne wasn't very threatning, but his eyes and markings could strike fear in the hearts of others. He was shocked when she hadn't turned and ran away, but had stared at him instead. She ended up introducing herself, and Nocturne in turn did the same. The emotions that surged through him were extremely painful, yet he was happy to have found his real mother. He already knew how he had been born, so he didn't make Shyla explain herself. He went back to his den that night feeling more alone than ever, and knew that neither Ellia, Zira, or Shyla could fill the gap in his heart. He continued to dream about the female hybrid, and on impulse, set off one day to find her. Leaving everything behind, he went to find who he believed to be the only creature who could truely understand him.
I still have to finish the historyI'm not sure if I'll be able to finish this by the deadline, but there are some things you need to know. I've wondered in the past which creature here would end up being my last adoption, but I've found the one. I truely connect with Nocturne, and I want to write about his life and struggles; and how he ends up finding the female and the hardships they endure together. His design is amazing, and I would love to be given the privilage to draw him and get art of him. I hope that by reading what I have so far, you can tell how important this is to me, and how much effort I'm willing to put into him.
Thank you,
Warrior
