Name: Soledad
Gender: Female
Soledad heard a sound in the distance.
What was that? she wondered. She looked up and saw the bright reds and oranges of the sunset.
Snap! A twig broke under the weight of some large creature. Soledad collapsed to the ground and tucked her wings in, trying to hide from whatever was out there. She laid silently, barely even breathing, waiting for another noise.
Crunch! A leaf crackled, as if someone was stepping on it. Soledad's eyes grew large, she knew that whatever it was, it was moving towards her.
One last noise, and I'm running! she thought. Her heartbeat was racing, her muscles were tense. She couldn't figure out what was out there.
Crack! This time, the sound was right in next to her ear. She started off running as fast and far as she could. She didn't even take the time to look back at what might be chasing her.
Never look back, never ever look back, she remembered her mother telling her when she was just a baby.
You look back, and you die. She saw a tall dark tree looming in the distance. As it grew closer she noticed that the branches didn't look sturdy enough to hold a bird, much less a Plainrunner.
This is my only chance, she thought to herself. Soledad lept at the tree and sunk in her claws. Her fragile little body shimmied up the tree. Once she reached the top, she finally looked down to see what was after her.
Nothing, she sighed.
Oh, well. At least I'm safe for now.
